It's unique, I guess? The lyrics are funny and clever, and it's not really a topic that's been explored before, or at least not in popular music. So it's refreshing. It's catchy. Also, Macklemore has some really amazing, deep music, so even if this is his hit or whatever, he deserves it.

Yeah I mean honestly, thrift stores ARE freaking awesome, it's about time someone wrote a hit song about them.

Exactly! I've been shopping at thrift stores for many, many years, but this song actually got some of my friends who would never, ever thrift shop with me to go to a thrift store! And my friend Andrew got a really snazzy sweater. SO YEAH. True story. IT CHANGES LIVES, OKAY?

message 355: by [deleted user] (new)

I need to shop at thrift stores more often because I have no money.

Like 99% of my clothing comes from thrift stores. The other 1% comes from the free pile in the laundry room.

It's just fantastic. And I love how Scott is singing higher than Kirstie like 90% of the time.

It's not fair. Everyone is so stinkin' talented. Scott and Mitch can both hit a freaking F#6 (I think I'm counting right) without breaking a sweat, Kevin can sound like the freaking motor of a car, Kirstie can imitate just about every singer they cover and she has so much power, and then you have freaking Avi who can sing an A1 and an F5 and just WHAT EVEN.

(pardon my geeking out)

There's this dubstep version of Misty Mountains Cold from The Hobbit that's simultaneously hilarious and beautiful. That's the only one I can think of.

LIGHTS - Where the Fence is Low

message 395: by [deleted user] (new)

I just think it's kind of hilarious. But I'm no dubstep expert or anything.

Pentatonix - Somebody That I Used To Know

This song sounds infinitely better in C# minor/E than in D minor/F. And their harmonies give me chills.

message 396: by Taylor (new)

Taylor | 0 comments Neither am I. I just listen to it on Pandora and Spotify and give it the thumb.

I like that transposition. You're right, it does sound a little better. It drives me insane that there aren't more people with perfect pitch…then they'd see that the key actually matters.

message 397: by [deleted user] (new)

It's really weird--my sisters don't have perfect pitch, but when I play F major for them they still seem to understand my hatred for it. And I've talked to people with perfect pitch who think that songs sounding better or worse in different keys is idiotic. So I wonder what it is that makes people see that... But yeah, it would be nice.

Taylor | 0 comments I don't understand why you would hate on F major. I mean, it has a weaker feel to me, but it has its place. One piece I'm writing right now (actually, it has been on hold for almost a year) is written in FM, and I think it's alright.

It works for some songs. I don't think it should cease to exist or anything. You're right that it has its place. What bothers me is that it sounds so... I don't know, almost saccharine, and then people try to use it for sad songs and it just doesn't work for me at all.
