Her voice is so interesting! And I really like most of her lyrics as well. She's very different, and not just in that way that so many artists are desperately trying to be different. She just is, and it's awesome.

She is so good. Have you heard Buzzcut Season? There are some songs that it's like, the lyrics don't exactly hit me or anything, but just the way that the voice sounds can give me the chills...that's one of those songs.

Yes it is. Go listen to Bombadil or Mountain Goats or something."
It's a problem because I'm going to wear her music out not because I want to listen to more hipster-y music.

UGGHH just that whole album is like. So good. I really love her.
Ah haha sometimes I listen to A World Alone on my headphones I get confused because all the talking in the background sounds like it's actually coming from behind me ... which is freaky. But it's a really pretty song.
Edit: Also if you guys haven't listened to her EP I highly recommend that as well, since there are a few really good songs on there that didn't end up on her full album. Like oh my gosh, "Bravado" is so epic.

I need to listen to her EP. I will probably put it on my iPod and go nuts while I'm studying this week. :P

It's a problem because her music isn't indie enough. :P"
STOP.
NO.
It's not a problem at all because her music is RIDICULOUSLY GOOD. She has ONE SONG that gets played on the radio. One. And to be honest, it's not her best song. If you put her on a scale with a ton of the other artists who get radio play, she's very indie. Not that it matters.
The reason 'hipster culture' gets so much negative light is because people claim they don't like things that are GOOD because they're too mainstream. And that sucks, because I don't have a problem with the whole hipster thing. I do, however, have a problem with saying that I shouldn't like an artist because her music's not indie enough. If you like an artist you should like them whether they have one fan or one billion fans. It's NEVER going to be a problem for me to listen to popular music. There is some popular music that is out there that fricking rocks. And it'd be ridiculous to deny myself the pleasure of hearing that music just because it's not indie enough.
I'm not trying to make this into an argument or anything. It's just something that really bothers me and I wanted to make my stance clear. So that's that. :)

OH MY GOODNESS YES, YES.
Finally, someone who loves the Lorde songs that I do.
And I agree; it really ticks me off when my friends say, "Oh, I LOVE Lorde!" And, then when I ask what their favorite songs are by her, it turns out they only know of "Royals," nothing more.
It's like, dude, how can you claim to "love" an artist when you've only heard ONE song by them? HOW?
Sorry, it just really frustrates me. She deserves to be more recognized in this day and age.

I think Colby has a good point. And Taylor, you may have been "kidding"––but firstly, it can be hard to tell one's tone through Internet posts as I'm sure we all know. And secondly, unfortunately a lot of people do seriously have that point of view, that a certain artist being popular automatically makes them bad. Personally I don't really care whether an artist is well-known or not, I just listen to whatever I like––whether it's something very popular or something no one's ever heard of. And I don't think it accomplishes much to even jokingly shame someone for their music taste; I think all that matters is that people listen to whatever makes them happy.

Errr I don't think it was a "shitstorm," and I think we all understand that you were not completely serious about it. I am perfectly calm, thanks; I was just trying to say, it is a legitimate argument people get into, and people are free to like or dislike whatever they want.
Also, don't joke about PMS. Just ... don't.

I honestly had no idea that there was such a thing as indie Christmas music, though. XD

Thank goodness I'm not the only one. I'll listen to Christmas music maybe in, like, the week before Christmas, but besides that I can't stand it. Maybe that comes from being in band for so many years and having to play Christmas songs for three months straight in preparation for a concert.
For some reason I never hear that much Christmas music from my friends and family. So, I just like to listen to a few Christmas albums around December from Bright Eyes, Sufjan Stevens, and Alicia has like, this giant Christmas mix than I subscribed to on Spotify.
Oh, Gosh Megan I totally know what you mean about the band thing, though. We had to play songs from Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa because you know, public school (not saying it's bad to be inclusive it's just kind of silly sometimes) and the only Kwanzaa song we ever played from middle school to high school was called "Kwanzaa Kwanzaa" I don't ever want to hear it again.

I love Christmas music, but I can only take so many carols before I get sick of them. So these other Christmas songs are a good alternative. It helps me keep my sanity through December. :)

I usually don't listen to this much Christmas music, but this year is different. Probably because I'm away from home and Christmas means not being at college anymore. Ehe.

Vampire's Kiss by John Gold

I think I'm in love. My roommate plays this group all the time and I finally asked her what their name was. Perfect December music.

OH MY GOSH these songs like ALL have flute parts, why have I never noticed this before. Yet another reason why they are one of the best bands ever.

Okay, these are like... some of the most fantastic lyrics I've heard in a long time. So witty and sarcastic and just. Yes.

Although, I actually think it kind of suits him. I don't know a single soul on this earth that could wear a hairstyle like that but him, and get away with it.
