Taylor | 0 comments The Chain -- Ingrid Michaelson

So good. Some of the harmonies make me want to rip off my ears, but it's almost better that way.

Saru (Queen of Bookland) (sarulovesbooks) | 3290 comments Why do they make you want to rip off your ears?

message 816: by Taylor (new)

Taylor | 0 comments It just sounds really weird. There are some chromatic tones in there that just sound awful. But it's really cool at the same time.

Saru (Queen of Bookland) (sarulovesbooks) | 3290 comments Oh. I see. :)

message 818: by [deleted user] (new)

I feel like now I have to listen to it so I can see if i want to rip my ears out as well.

Saru (Queen of Bookland) (sarulovesbooks) | 3290 comments I've been listening to a ton of Pentatonix recently, and now I see what everyone on here has been obsessing about! They're amazing!

message 820: by Taylor (new)

Taylor | 0 comments @Maxy

It really is a good song. You'll enjoy it, I think. :)

message 821: by [deleted user] (new)

It's pretty. I see what chords you're talking about. They threw me off for the first few seconds, but I prefer the parts of the song with them because then it sounds less like F major and it also gives the song a neat twist emotionally.

message 822: by Taylor (new)

Taylor | 0 comments Yeah, it throws a cool twist in there for sure. I can't quite tell what she's doing, though…is that a C minor chord at the end of that second line ("The wind talks back")?

message 823: by [deleted user] (new)

Lemme check.

To me, it just sounds like an F Major chord with a D-flat thrown in (and an A-flat if you count the vocals)? Like maybe she's playing around with the mode or something.

Josh Groban - Remember When It Rained

Even if this weren't a Josh Groban song, the piano part would have me sold.

message 825: by Taylor (new)

Taylor | 0 comments Something like that, I guess. My ear hasn't been so good while I've been working this graveyard shift…hm…a V/IV in F Major…with an Ab…weird. XD

message 830: by Taylor (new)

Taylor | 0 comments @Maxy

I did some really close listening to the Ingrid Michaelson song, and it sounds like she's just building a half-diminished 7th on D. The chord (with the melody) is D3-C4-F4-Ab5 So nothing too out of the ordinary -- certainly "kosher" to a classically-trained composer like myself. XD

NO SHAME. (is that how to use the phrase?! or is it 'i have no shame'?)

Saru (Queen of Bookland) (sarulovesbooks) | 3290 comments Oh god. Sophia Grace.

I think it's the one you used. :)

message 840: by Dana (new)

Dana (danachewy) | 735 comments Okay. NO SHAME. Um, yeah. I don't think that she has a lot of talent, actually, I think she's incredibly over-hyped and stuff for a ten year old, but I do think her song is catchy. Her voice is kind of annoying sometimes though.

Saru (Queen of Bookland) (sarulovesbooks) | 3290 comments Yeah. I don't like her.

message 842: by Taylor (new)

Taylor | 0 comments I thought y'all were trashing T. Swift for a moment. I was ready to kill someone's family and neighbors.

If you like that song, but not her, there is an amazing cover of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun by Greg Laswell. One of my favorite things by him, actually.

Saru (Queen of Bookland) (sarulovesbooks) | 3290 comments I would never trash T. Swift!
