ABANDONED. A story about ducks migrating to the south and the hardships those ducks face.

I've got a hard one. When my dad was a kid in the 60's he read a book about a group of ducks or geese (he thinks about 3 of them) migrating from the north to the south. Along their migration, a few of them get killed by flying into wires, maybe starving, and just other hardships they face. Because it was so long ago, he can't remember too many details. He thinks that the name of the Book was something along the lines of "Wings Against the North" or "Three from the North". He believes it was a book for young adults. If you have any information on this white whale we'd love to hear about it

I was reminded of The Wonderful Adventures of Nils when reading this, but maybe it is more human stories oriented than geese's (it's been a while since I read it and I can't remember) .
