I just read Alive a couple of weeks ago and LOVED LOVED it!! I'm really excited for this Q&A with Scott! :-D

How difficult was it for you to write from the perspective of an adolescent female? What problems did you encounter writing from Em's point of view?

Do you know if the ALIVE audiobook will be released on July 14th? I know THE END HAS COME audiobook did not come out until about a month after the treeware release.

Do you have any book idea, that you can tell us a little about, so completely different from anything you've written so far that you dare not write it for fear of alienating your fan base? Not that you could ever unjunkify us!

Hello, everyone! I'm looking forward to this. I don't think I'm supposed to answer questions early, so I'll look forward to hitting all the early ones on June 29.

Hi Scott! Yes, you are correct :) Thanks so much for coming to our group, we'll see you on June 29!

Hi Scott! *waves* Karen has told us so much about you (all good stuff, I swear!). We look forward to chatting with you at the end of the month :)

David wrote: "We look forward to chatting with you at the end of the month"Is this Q+A a live chat at some point?
My understanding was that Scott would be logging in from time to time during those four days to answer questions members of the group had posted in the comments section (hopefully using HTML to make them bold). Is this incorrect?

@Arioch, Scott will be jumping in starting on the 29th and finishing up on the 2nd so yes, this will be live at that point.
There are a ton of past Q&A's if you want to look at a couple to see how they worked. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...
We've had some wild ones! Hugh Howey's got very hilarious talking about speedos and other crazy things.
I have a feeling that Scott's will be just as fun!! ;)

Thanks @Karen. It looks like Hugh Howey's was more the expception than the rule, and he certainly didn't stick around online for that whole week.
Thanks @Karen. It looks like Hugh Howey's was more the expception than the rule, and he certainly didn't stick around online for that whole week. Seems like it's kind of luck of the draw as to whether you happen to be logged in simultaneously when any given author is posting their answers to posted questions. I agree Scott will probably be a fun guest. Have fun 'interviewing' him! Maybe I'll get lucky & be online when simultaneously with y'all at some point.
If not, I'll catch up with him on tour or at SiglerFest 2k15 (hopefully) in October.

Unfortunately, Goodreads is not really set up for something like a "live author chat." This is strictly an author Q&A. The authors will of course chat with their fans and readers, but it will be on their own time during the days of the Q&A :)

Aha, Arioch, I guess I misunderstood what you meant by live. No, not 24/7. Jenny explained it perfectly. :)

Can I ask more than one question? :)
Can I ask more than one question? :)The blurb here on Goodreads says "a gripping sci-fi adventure trilogy in the vein of The Hunger Games, Divergent, and The Maze Runner." That could set some expectations for the reader. How do you feel about comparrisons like that?
Great questions coming in, I can tell I'll be on here for awhile once the Q&A begins. Looking forward to it.

Scott, you are going to need to pace yourself from the looks of it. Once we send out the email to the group the weekend before, the Q&A normally explodes. ;)

How much of a hand did you have in the production of the video? What are some of your horror influences in terms of books, authors, tv, movies, etc.?

Wasn't that CRAZY, Lauren?? Everyone, you HAVE to watch this!!

The dystopian genre is still such a big part of young adult and seems to be making a resurgence of late. What do you think makes it so appealing to such a wide range of readers?

I'm a big fan of Scott's work since back in 2008, so I have two questions:1. Considering how interconnected all of your other novels are, how hard was it to work on a project that doesn't exist in that same universe?
2. The first episodes of the podcast had some surprisingly violent moments for a YA book. Was it always planned on being YA, or was this something Del Ray approached you about after the pitch and you had to make adjustments?
I can't wait to finally get my hands on the book. You keep cliffhangering me on the weekly episodes, and I just want more!
Wow, y'all. You've posted some excellent questions for Scott. This may turn out to be more informative than one of the old Goreline call in shows. Kudos to all of you! I can't wait to see how Scott replies to our queries.

Arioch wrote: "How difficult was it for you to write from the perspective of an adolescent female? What problems did you encounter writing from Em's point of view?"I didn't start out with a plan to write from a teenage girl's perspective, so in that regard it was easy — it just developed that way.
That said, I'm not a teenage girl, so I made it a point to have several women of various ages (teen through senior) as advisers. As it always does for me, it was invaluable to add perspectives other than mine that come from subject matter experts, so to speak.
But in the end, the story is post-gender (and post-racial) in many ways. These characters have races and genders, of course, but because they don't have a pre-ordained social order, these are only facets of the whole character.

And if you haven't checked out his books yet, I definitely recommend them!

4. Karen--The new hardback cover of Alive Alive (The Generations Trilogy, #1) by Scott Sigler is gorgeous, Scott, (although I love the cover of the ARCs Alive by Scott Sigler too). Any way to get a signed copy of the hardcover?
5. Irene--The blurb here on Goodreads says "a gripping sci-fi adventure trilogy in the vein of The Hunger Games, Divergent, and The Maze Runner." That could set some expectations for the reader. How do you feel about comparrisons like that?
6. Lauren--I just watched the excellent book trailer for Alive. How much of a hand did you have in the production of the video? What are some of your horror influences in terms of books, authors, tv, movies, etc.?

8. Daniel--You've written both books aimed at adult readers as well as as books written for younger audiences. What are some of the differences in the strategies you use to make your books appealing to these two age groups?
In other words, how is writing for young adults different than writing for adults?
9. Cassie--We take inspiration from around us - is there anyone in particular that gave you the muse for Em (or even just to write Alive)?
10. Kate--Which author has been your biggest inspiration, and if you were ever to co-write a novel with them what do you think it would be like?
11. Maureen-Did something in your personal life inspire the story or any of the characters?
12. Zeinab--I was wondering made you start writing? Why write this genre? Do you ever write your personal experiences in your work? What are you working on now
13. Sophia--Alive sounds VERY similar to The Maze Runner. What makes Alive different?
14. Lucy--I'M ALWAYS INTRIGUED WITH WHAT INSPIRED THIS TYPE OF WRITING, AND DO YOU PREFER A SPECIAL NAME FOR THE TYPE OF WRITING YOU HAVE?
15. Toa-- Considering how interconnected all of your other novels are, how hard was it to work on a project that doesn't exist in that same universe?
16. Toa-- The first episodes of the podcast had some surprisingly violent moments for a YA book. Was it always planned on being YA, or was this something Del Ray approached you about after the pitch and you had to make adjustments?
17. Anne Marie--What genre of books do you read?
18. Karen--What lead you to offer your Alive podcast for free?
19. Anastasia--If there was one thing you could change about one of your books, what would it be?
20. Dustin-- Scott, what is one of your earliest memories of write, and how do you think it impacted you today?
21. Anne Marie--Is this book a "end of the world as we know it book." I do like books like that.
22. Micheal--INFECTED Just started INFECTED after reading some great reviews and I'm loving it so far. How much research did you have to do to understand the way infections attack the body, I found this part intriguing and something that could have been hard work I found kept the pace of the book going and added brilliantly to the novel, I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.
23. Karen--What is a typical day for you?
24. Karen--Do have any favorite fan moments?
25. Caitlin--Which of your books was your favorite to write, and why?
26. Serena--With the dystopian genre being pretty much everywhere and the normal cliches are starting to develop, how do you make your book stand out for the rest? Meaning, do you follow the cliches (a main character who can't be controlled by the government) or do you try to take a different path and offer your readers something different? I don't have any problem with cliches, but I've just always wondered how authors go about making their book different.
27. Harlee--My question is about being a writer. People always ask what the hardest thing about being a writer is but I was wondering if there is something you consider to be the easiest thing about being a writer?
28. JP--What made you interested in writing to begin with?
29. Karen--I finished Ancestor by Scott Sigler last week and thought it would make a great movie! Anything in the works for any of your books?
30. Sana--Do you setup some deadlines for writing books?
31. Kaylani--What kind of books do you tend to read and who are your favorite authors?
32. Arioch--How do you decide what project to tackle next? Obviously it's impossible to keep all of your fans happy, each will have their personal favorite. Do you take what they want into account or do you just go with whatever muse is hollering loudest at the time you're ready to begin a new project? Does it ever bother you juggling so many open story lines simultaneously rather than completing them prior to beginning another?
33. Arioch--You've co-written a few of the GFL novellas, but, by and large you seem to prefer working on your own. Is this true? If so, why? What are the pros & cons of working with another author versus working alone?
34. Kynndra--Where do you, as an author, hope to see yourself in ten years?
35. Jenny--If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
36. Tommy--If you could push one book and/or series that you don't think gets enough love(not one of yours, you rascal!) on people to get it in front of more eyes, what book and/or series would that be?
37. Mary--Hi, Scott! Thank you for this generous offer. I wanted to ask if writing has started to impact your life, and if you feel as if the world of reading will flourish in the future where so much technology is coming out. If you think so, what do you think we can do as readers and authors to promote reading? Thank you!!!
