Robert Core | 1864 comments Rod - I must say (from my pathetically predictable human condition), that I would prefer some "while they're still alive" guarantee of justice for never-do-wells other than relying on the long arm of the law. Hell is punishment enough I suppose but I don't get the pleasure of witnesssing it FIRSTHAND. There is some anecdotal evidence that really rotten serial offenders do tend to suffer unexplained personal catastrophe even when the've got away with "the crimes". I wonder if God really does deliver that "bolt of lightning" occasionally to some of Satan's most heinous henchmen.

Tina I believe a Jospheus was a non-Christian back in those days and wrote of A man named Jesus and the miracles he said performed. Also archeology is starting to show us more proof. I as a commoner see the simple and believe more and more of the Bible and prayer to the Lord. So these discussions mean a lot to me

There are plenty of innocents who suffer and plenty of tyrants and mass killers who lived long and comfortable life. IMHO a main lesson of the book of job is that divine justice is beyond human comprehension, and it is not our business to tell God what to do.

Robert Core | 1864 comments Xdyj - no, divine justice is perfectly predictable - in the afterlife. I was just musing about our role as enforcer in this world. Scripture intones that we treat the alien kindly if he comes in peace, but is strangely silent about our appropriate actions if he doesn't. Am I justified in playing Dirty Harry?

Well you'd think we agree on what's right and wrong before we discuss our role in having justice served. But thing is we don't, and that's why ultimate justice is left up to God if you believe in him.

Robert Core | 1864 comments Josette - right and wrong are easily distinguishable if one recognizes the Bible as the ONLY moral authority with divine clout. Of course, mankind left to its own conceptualizations is capable of labeling anything right and anything wrong.

message 57: by [deleted user] (new)

That's true Robert. I think we need only one source seemed to be "moral authority" as you put it otherwise ideas of right and wrong will clash. Isn't that a pragmatic line of argument to proving the necessity of a God? Although, who decides what "God" it is? And ultimately the important question is, how do we decide on this moral authority? Rationalise our way to it, to the truth, maybe...?

Robert Core | 1864 comments Josette - as I've been around the block a few times (OK! - I'm older than dirt), I've tried the philosophical (rational as you put it) approach to morality while I was experimenting with various sins. After I'd honed in on those I really liked, and wanted to keep, I employed the egocentric, self enforcer of morality typical of humanism/hedonism. The Lord must have really wanted me in His camp as He gradually brought me to Belief and acceptance of Scripture as true moral authority. I don't know where you are in your walk with Jesus, but if He wants you you'll get a clarion call. THEN, life really gets interesting (not boring at all) as a follower needs to make constant decisions about how to meld all people, places, and things to coincide with his newfound pathway involving the Savior. For me, this has entailed some interesting and sometimes gutwrenching decisions!

Ariela Solsol (arielah) Josette and Robert,
Many years ago I was searching for truth just as you are now, Josette. Somehow, Christanity didn't seem universal enough for me so I started looking into the Eastern Faiths for answers. This is when I had a huge clarion call...in a Near Death Experience. I was shown the Bible from the inside out and from God's perspective not mine. Truth is truth...regardless of what anyone of us may think or believe. It is a good thing to be seeking for answers. We usually seek and grope for answers to spiritual questions seeking to find more of God..and not less of Him.

DIVINE TRUTHS REVEALED

Robert and Ariela, thank you for sharing that. Yes, truth is truth, and as I am getting older in my way of thinking and understanding I am getting closer to this truth that is Christianity. I think I'm on the right path :)

Ariela Solsol (arielah) That's VERY good news...Josette! Next week I'll be able to send a free copy to anyone who requests it. At the moment...I'm trying to have Amazon list it for free. I don't think I should make one penny on a message of truth that was given to me freely! :)
