Jean-charles (antonblock) | 3 comments The following book cannot be manually edited.

I own the original leather bound edition of Histoire de la philosophie (Pléiade) which is described at
http://www.la-pleiade.fr/Catalogue/GA...

This book, with no ISBN, now has an ISBN on the editor's site ISBN : (2070104265). It is being confused on Goodreads with a later paperback edition with about half the number of pages. The book I hold in my hands has 1728 pages, and no ISBN.

Editor's info:

Histoire de la philosophie
Tome I, Orient – Antiquité – Moyen Âge
Édition sous la direction de Brice Parain

Parution le 2 Mai 1969
Encyclopédie de la Pléiade, n° 26
1760 pages, rel. Peau, 105 x 170 mm

Banjomike | 5166 comments Is this the one you mean
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/10...

Old books are often given an ISBN.

Jean-charles (antonblock) | 3 comments Thanks for replying. No, the version you refer to dates from 1990 and is referenced as containing 1385 pages. It might be a revised paperback edition.

Mine, which is an academic classic BTW contains 1728 pages. The whole affair is a three-volume History of Philosophy which I physically own and can materially check.

Volume 2 contains 1142 pages. Volume 3, interestingly has 1385 pages, just as the book you refer to.

Banjomike | 5166 comments The number of authors/editors/publishers who have produced entirely separate works called "Histoire de la philosophie" or similar is quite amazing (at least to me).

Shambles! I've added placeholder records (incomplete and almost certainly error-ridden) for the volume 2 & 3 by Yvon Belaval listed on La Pléiade and also for the Brice Parain volume 1 from the same source. Some info from other sites.

Volume 3 has an ISBN and is not already on Goodreads.
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17...

The ISBN for volume 2 was already in use on a Romanian language version, here:
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/10...
so the placeholder has the same ISBN, but is in the original French, ???
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17...

Volume 1 has a similar situation. The edition in message 2 has the ISBN of the new French edition but is a Romanian hardback (or so it says).

So the volume 1 placeholder has no ISBN.

The ones I've added all have covers to separate them from the older editions which don't.

Jean-charles, can you check what you can and post your comments and fixes? I'm going to do something non-book related for a while. Back later.
