I nominate The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie. I've heard the most interesting things about this one. It seems to be a book about serious topics that is yet easy to read.
I nominate The Orenda by Joseph Boyden. It deals with the arrival of the Jesuits amongst the Huron. I read it in February, loved it, and have been recommending it to friends ever since.
I nominate The Last of the Mohicans by James Fenimore Cooper. A classic book, it is "a moving portrayal of a vanishing race and the end of its way of life in the great American forests".
I nominate Three Day Road by Joseph Boyden which is about two Canadian native Americans who fight in WWI and their lives after they come home.
I nominate The Splendour Of Silence which deals with a forbidden romance in India during 1942. Romance is between, Mila the daughter of a political agent- black Indian and an American Sam Hawthorne. It captures the life in India at that time with all its prejudices on both sides.
