(view spoiler)[Hmm. The ending was just a little bit too neat... but that's okay. This was a cute read that reminded me of a Sarah Dessen book. A little better though. I like how much he still loved his father, even after all he's done and I liked how the author didn't completely antagonize him. The ending though... intense scene there. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 13

(view spoiler)[Finally Oliver is starting to slowly open up to Emmy. I felt bad for the guy having to adjust all over again and with all that fame. I felt bad when he admitted that coming home was like being kidnapped all over again. Just being taken again to a new place is really difficult. At least, Emmy and the gang are there to help him. Chapter 32

(view spoiler)[I super loved this moment with 4 of them together and just being there for each other. It seemed like Oliver is finally becoming a solid part of the group. A lot of things might be going on for them but it's fun to know that they have each other no matter what. (hide spoiler)]

Final thoughts:

I loved this book. (view spoiler)[Although this doesn't really apply to most people, I liked how it showed to what extent parents are willing to do for their child, even though they become unaware that they are doing it wrong. I loved how in the end, distance can be so beautiful in such a way that there is room for growth. (hide spoiler)]

I just started this book, finished note and chapter 1, am on chapter 2 now, and I'm already loving it so much!

I think the writing style is pretty amazing, already.have some sentences underlined.

Starting. 44% (view spoiler)[ so this is an all too familiar story with the whole parent kidnapping his child. I think the cops could’ve done a little more than wave it off. I liked that Emmy kept Oliver close to her heart and never gave up on him coming back. Her parents and his mom are such good friends that they stayed close to each other for support. I think Emmy’s parents shouldn’t be so harsh to where she has to hide her hobby (surfing) from them. I’m glad Emmy and Oliver are good friends now and seem to be falling for each other. I am liking this book but so far it’s like a 4 stars. (hide spoiler)]

He can't hate his father because he grew up with him and loved him and then found out that he was kidnapped by him but he is still his father. Hi guys! I picked this up at the end of Sept, but didn’t get too far. Digging into it a little more and I’m really enjoying it!
Thru chapter 13
(view spoiler)[ the thought of Oliver just disappearing just baffles me and I really don’t know what I would do in any situation. Being his friend. Being his mom. Or his sister. And to think that he spent the entire time thinking that his mother left and not knowing that he had sisters. What an absolute culture shock and just all around shock to find all of this out. I love that Emmy is now starting to get back to ‘normal’ (whatever that may be now) with him. Going surfing, having dinner and laughing with him. I think they both need that. Though when Oliver says how coming home feels like being kidnapped all over again. I can 100% see how that would be true. It’s like his whole life as he knew it was completely changed and uprooted (hide spoiler)]

Thru chapter 24

(view spoiler)[ I am loving watching things unfold between Emmy and Oliver. Learning more about him and his time with his dad but also his and Emmy’s growing connection. She is sharing something pretty special with him - surfing. I feel like this is Emmy’s time just to kind of be herself and let her stresses fade away. The fact that her and Oliver are doing this together, I think, is something they both need. Very good points have been brought up about how all Oliver knew was how his life was and his dad for the last 10 years. He doesn’t see him as a criminal and rightfully he misses his father. I’m very surprised nobody else has touched on this with him. I feel like he needs to be able to express these thoughts as well... (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ soooo excited for Emmy for getting into the college of her choice! Also proud of her for standing up to her parents. As a parent myself I know that I would always have my children’s best interest at heart and letting go would be hard, but it also has to be hard for Emmy to live in the shadow of what happened to Oliver. When Oliver showed up with the envelope saying that it wasn’t from Columbia I knew right away that it was from his dad. I have no doubt that he is going to want to meet with his dad, but I’m a little worried about what will go down when that meeting happens.... 😕 (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ Wow. I definitely wasn't sure how the meeting with Oliver and his dad was going to go down, but I sure didn't expect it to be the way it did. I was pretty confident that Emmy wasnt going to tell anybody or call the cops or anything, but I was not expecting his dad to either! I can see where he wouldn't want to spend the rest of his life running and hiding from things and it does seem as though he is a much different person than he was when he originally ran off with Oliver.
I was so happy to see that Emmy was going to college and able to grow and be her own person.
In the end I didn't really feel like I was super invested in any of the characters - more Emmy and Oliver of course - but its like I was just kind of floating along listening to their story. It was still a fun easy listen and I enjoyed it! (hide spoiler)]
