Date of first release

I've noticed that when adding a new title (i.e. one with no existing editions on goodreads), goodreads automatically adds a date of original publication identical to the publication date of the added title, regardless of whether it is a first edition or not. I regularly come across books with incorrect date for first publication, probably because of this. Wouldn't it be preferable to be rid of a function that automatically adds misinformation to the database?
