This thread is now open for those who wish to jump in early.

I'm hoping to finish GWTW this week and make some serious progress on JE. :-)

I will probably start Sabriel on or around the 20th.

For those who find this helpful, here is a suggested reading schedule for the month. I have no idea how many pages it has yet, so I went by chapters.

Week 1 - June 20-26 - Prologue - Chapter 7
Week 2 - June 27-July 3 - Chapters 8-15
Week 3 - July 4-10 - Chapters 16-23
Week 4 - July 11-19 - Chapters 24-Epilogue

Thanks for that breakdown, Martha.

You're very welcome, Tessa. I try to stick to them, but seldom keep up. LOL

I'm just a bit behind ... I've read through chapter 3 and am enjoying the story so far. I find that in some fantasies it is difficult for me to connect with the characters, but that is not the case here. An engaging story so far.

Has anyone else started reading it? I've had to put Jane Eyre aside for awhile as I had an Amazon borrowed book to finish and have 2 library books.

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) I just started the audio this morning. And am immediately struck by similarities with Harry Potter. oh wait ... Sabriel was published two YEARS before HP!

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) Boy oh Boy! ... Talk about suspenseful! I'm listening to the audio during my daily commute. It's masterfully performed by Tim Curry .. and his voices for the "villains" just send chills up my spine.

I'm also very happy to see a strong, young female heroine!

I love Tim Curry as a narrator. He does my copy of A Christmas Carol. Wonderful!!

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) I am down to the last two discs (of 10). Talk about edge of your seat! Not at all my usual genre, but I am really liking this fantasy adventure quest. I may have to check to see if my 14-year-old niece has read this.

I've read almost a 1/4 of it and am really enjoying it. It's not my usual genre either, but it's an entertaining story.

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) I sent my 19-year-old niece an email asking if she or her younger sister had read this (didn't have the 14-year-old's email address). Alyssia responded that she hadn't but she was going to get a copy after reading the blurb.

I'm on the last disc of the audio, and should have it finished on my commute home this evening. SOOOO much better than I was expecting.

Glad you enjoyed it. I'm really liking it. Have been crocheting lately which is interfering with my reading. :-)

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) Sabriel (The Abhorsen Trilogy, #1) by Garth Nix Sabriel by Garth Nix – 4****
What an extraordinary fantasy adventure! I love that Nix chose for the hero a young woman – Sabriel – who is smart, resourceful, courageous and determined, if inexperienced and sometimes rash. The plotting is wonderfully complex and full of danger. I don’t know if I’ll read any more in the series (this kind of fantasy is just not my genre of choice), but I’m glad I read this one. Tim Curry is nothing short of fantastic performing the audio version.
