Throughout the perks of being a wallflower, Charlie seems quite odd and even has to go to the hospital ay the end. Why is this?

ok so i know ur going to think is really messed up but basically when charlie was a kid his aunt helen abused him and thats why he's messed up in the head and felt really weird when sam kissed him.
He suffered from depression, also felt guilty for his aunt's dead because he wished for it at some point back when he was abused by her.
Her aunt abused him sexually, that's why he thought she was a goddess.
By the way their only friends-his best friend killed himself, and his only friend left (Susan) just stopped talking to him. I've been through that and it's something awful, I understand why he is so messed up.
I agree, he was abused sexually by his Aunt Helen, so living with that and suffering from severe depression is the causes.

Yes, it does. It specifically implies that she regularly molested him on his visits to her house. He also suppressed that memory for years and remembers it at one point in the book, If I remember correctly, it's around the same time he has a huge breakdown.

Charlie is messed for tons of reasons but heres a few i can see:- his only friend committed suicide, and he probably blames himself for it. not noticing the signs, or feeling as though he was a bad friend that his mate couldn't open up to him
-lack of friend, lonely. He literally has no one he can talk about stuff you cant talk with your family about
-overshadowed? maybe potentially his sister has a boyfriend who comes round the house, brother plays football for a big team so not a lot of attention is on him?
-his aunt, abused him when he was younger and when she died he blamed himself because she went to get his present. (another death he thinks is his fault)
-bullied at new school, by the other students for being different.
thats all i can think of atm. but there are tons of reasons :( makes me want to give him big ole hug
Yeah I think when Aunt Helen abused Charlie sexually it ruined him to find out (even though he kind of knew the whole time) and he was so depressed that he got totally messed up. Plus before that the only true friend he ever had or at least talked about committed suicide leaving him with the guilt that that maybe had been his fault.
