I actually don't mind the stink; it reminds me of Engleman Spruces and that reminds me of Christmas! What do your Eastern ones smell like?

We have those stinkbugs around here, too. Two types, the green ones are rarely seen. The brown ones are invasive, and bumble around landing on people, pets, whatever! Gross! Two years ago we had a much colder than normal winter, and it greatly reduced the population. They have not been so bad lately, which is good! At the library, they would try to set up camp on top of our large print books. Rude!
I like spiders, they always are granted a relocation if they are in the way.

HOWEVER...cooler weather is coming! Looks like it will start really dropping into "Fall" about midweek!
Karlyne wrote: "I actually don't mind the stink; it reminds me of Engleman Spruces and that reminds me of Christmas! What do your Eastern ones smell like?"They smell a bit like rotten cilantro!!

Yuk! There's nothing worse than finding a squashed, slimy bag of cilantro at the back of the fridge! Rotten!!!

Yay, for the coming weather, sorry for your skin. My poor husband has the same problem, just got back from a walk in the nearby woods and I am unscathed but they make a fiesta out of him! No cologne or hair product or anything- they just love to get at him!
Karlyne wrote: "I actually don't mind the stink; it reminds me of Engleman Spruces and that reminds me of Christmas! What do your Eastern ones smell like?"I don’t know, I’ve always been cared to avoid smashing them!🤪

Ick, good to know (I just do as I’m told, elderly neighbors told me not to smush them, I don’t smush them). I’m not a fan of cilantro when it’s fresh, so that sounds really nasty!
Come to New England if you want fall. Fall is in the air and the trees are starting to change color. It's a little cool in the mornings and it's been rather gloomy and rainy but today was a beautiful day. I don't think we have stink bugs.
QNPoohBear wrote: "Come to New England if you want fall. Fall is in the air and the trees are starting to change color. It's a little cool in the mornings and it's been rather gloomy and rainy but today was a beautif..."Sounds perfect!
I love cilantro, but only when it's fresh! We use it in both Mexican and Asian dishes, but it tends to be a love/hate thing for most people. It's cooling in spicy dishes and super chopped up in sour cream and salsas.
North and South America's Cilantro is called Coriander in the rest of the world. Like, the green leafy part. And coriander is the ground seed of the same plant here.
Critterbee❇ wrote: "North and South America's Cilantro is called Coriander in the rest of the world. Like, the green leafy part. Oh wow I love that emoji, Susan! 🤪🤪🤪 It is perfect!

I laughed when I first saw it, after two brain surgeries in a year, I use it all the time with my sisters to explain how I sometimes feel (have to keep a sense of humor about things...)
I have baby cilantro plants! Which will not survive this week, alas. It's always a crap shoot as to what kind of fall we'll have. This year it will be winter for fall, apparently...

If you bring one in could it live in a sunny window for a bit to stretch the season out?
I'm trying to figure out what to bring in and what to cover in sawdust. I have a lot of geraniums which I want to put in the windowsills, but they'll survive the cold for a while. I'll just wait until it's too lare to make a decision.🤣

Mosquitoes arent bad if it's cool enough to wear long sleeves, pants, shoes and socks. And maybe a hockey mask.
We have moved swiftly through Autumn to winter. All biting insects have been eliminated! Feel sorry for those of you still afflicted with mozzies - stay covered don’t go outdoors at night!
Karlyne wrote: "Mosquitoes arent bad if it's cool enough to wear long sleeves, pants, shoes and socks. And maybe a hockey mask."Ok, the hockey mask, worn while walking in the woods, would definitely freak out fellow hikers! Especially a few weeks before Halloween...
Susan in Perthshire wrote: "We have moved swiftly through Autumn to winter. All biting insects have been eliminated! Feel sorry for those of you still afflicted with mozzies - stay covered don’t go outdoors at night!"Good advice, my friend, but they’re out in full force all day, due to our very wet summer and the hurricane. We got a notice from our condo association down at the beach that they were doing aerial spraying Friday to address the mosquito problem- yikes!
Rebecca wrote: "Susan in NC wrote: "Rebecca wrote: "Susan in NC wrote: "Lucky duck! Florence, along with dumping obscene amounts of rain, also left us with a bumper crop of nasty mosquitoes! Yesterday afternoon ( about 5 pm) when we were walking in the woods he came out with two nasty bites on his right hand alone!
Karlyne wrote: "Nasty!!! I'll stick with my weird pine bugs!"And send some of that cooler, crispier air our way, would you dear?😉
Teresa wrote: "Thanks guys for the info on the herbs. Coriander I know!"Sorry about that, Teresa; cilantro is such a ubiquitous ethnic ingredient over here, I figured the whole world was awash in it!
Susan - I hadn’t realised they were all day beasties! I thought it would be an after-sunset problem! Hope they go soon!
Susan in Perthshire wrote: "Susan - I hadn’t realised they were all day beasties! I thought it would be an after-sunset problem! Hope they go soon!"Me, too, it’s been a wet, buggy summer!

I wish I could! So clear and crispy tonight I just put the flannel sheets on! So happy...
My daughter is gone to Savannah for a work conference. Anyone know what the weather is like over there?
Hey Teresa, here’s the Weather Channel app, I put it on Ireland, should be able to put in savannah and check conditions.https://weather.com/en-IE/weather/tod...
Not madly different from here and London at the moment except for the humidity. Don't think she'll deal too well with that. But then she'll probably spend most of her time in a conference room so she'll be sorted!!

Susan (in NC)--How badly did y'all get hit by the remnants of Hurricane Michael? My husband went to High School in Panama City, FL while his dad was stationed at Tyndall AFB. The pictures of all that damage gave him a shock. For our peace of mind, we were glad we didn't have friends or family in the area (unlike all the worrying we did during Hurricane Florence last month!)
I live in South East Ireland. We're expecting a huge storm tonight. It will probably be a spit in your eye compared with what those of you who suffer hurricane season go through. But this storm will cause havoc here!!! We're just not prepared for them. It's only in the last few years that we've had them so regularly. Before that a big storm was talked about for weeks, they happened so rarely.

Well, there was flash flooding and several trees down, torrential rain and heavy winds, the lights flickered a few times mid-afternoon butthe worst appears to be over. It’s over near Raleigh and Eastern NC now - hope they’ll be ok. The devastation in Florida is horrific!
We personally are fine - we had a stream running through our yard by midday from all the rain!
