The turban came out nice. Love your husband's retro wardrobe. At least he's comfortable. I'm from a family of short Italians. 6'5" is insanely tall! I'm the shortest at 5'2" with shoes on.

6ft 8in. Whoah!I think Xave would like to have stopped growing at around 6ft 2, but recently he has had more luck finding clothes to fit him.
I’m afraid my only child got his height from me - 5’6” on a good day. Carol, love the hat, turned out great! Did any of the young -uns even get the reference? Even on Call the Midwife, the 50s and early 60s mums cover their curlers with turbans sometimes! Maybe they at least picked up on a mid-century modern vibe? Hope you got all the glue out.

Hilary S Who is your Cairn Terrier friend? Our beloved Mischief ruled the roost with a velvet paw for almost 17 years, firmly convinced SHE was the QUEEN of the WORLD and the rest of us merely servants to Her Majesty. She was my favorite sibling and my dad's favorite child. We miss her very much.
We have two Cairn Terriers - Toby (nearly 9 and totally chilled - that's him in my pic) and Hamish (just turned 5 on the 1st of April and he is a manic whirlwind, waggle butt and snuggler!)
My daughter had the Best Dog in the World - a Cairn Terrier she named Bogart. He died three years ago, at the age of 14 (we think), and we all still mourn him. He's irreplaceable, but I'm hoping to find one as lovely as he was this summer!
Karlyne wrote: "My daughter had the Best Dog in the World - a Cairn Terrier she named Bogart. He died three years ago, at the age of 14 (we think), and we all still mourn him. He's irreplaceable, but I'm hoping to..."Oooh good luck! They really do leave little paw prints on your heart and soul :D
My dog is an Australian Shepherd / Catahoula mix and she's 19 YEARS OLD!!!! (Well, in May, that is.)We still walk 1/2 miles to 1 mile a day. I just can't believe her. Every morning I check if she's still breathing. (LOL!!)

We had a dog like that! She was so old and decrepit when we lived in town that when we moved way out in the boonies, we were worried about her. But, honest to Pete, as soon as we moved, she shed about 10 years and started carrying on like a puppy. She was still deaf as a post, but she was so darned happy out there! She lived several more years until she peacefully died, under her favorite pine tree.
Misty is incredible! She doesn't see or hear very well. But she still loves to go for walks. Her legs are a bit wobbly and she has bad arthritis. But she still has a beautiful coat. All over. We were at the vet and she wanted to talk about "quality of life". Well, I swear that Misty understood that!! When we got home, she spent 2 days trying to prove to me that she wasn't dead yet!!

Yes, Misty! Attagirl!
wow go Misty! 19 is incredible. My brother has a Cattle Dog mix who thinks she's a lap dog. She's already about 8 but still acts like a puppy. They sure do. I don't think my dad has gotten over the loss of his baby and it's been over 10 years. We talk about her often and feel like she's with us.
Karylene Try Col. Potter Cairn Rescue Network if you haven't already put an application in. You can work with a matchmaker to find you a Cairn or Cairn mix that's nearly as great as Bogart or maybe a new heart dog. Mischief hated the word "dog." A DOG is a lesser creature that drools and OBEYS the dumb humans. A Cairn is a mighty ferocious warrior, larger and more intelligent and superior in every day to dogs and humans. She was also of the opinion d-i-e-t was a bad four letter word. Why should she be subjected to the slop in her bowl when there are much better smells coming from the kitchen?
Puppies! They rule my world! The only time that I have not had a dog was when I was living in Japan, and had to 'settle' for a hamster. Currently I get to live with two rescued dogs: an ornery pug and a mischievous muggin (half pug, half Miniature Pinscher). I have photos in my profile of both.
We had an Irish Wolfhound named Hennessey, he was a love. When he was a 6-month old puppy he thought he was a lap dog, although he took up nearly an entire bench in our Grand Voyager. His head was as big as a pug. Now we have a Sharpei/Chow/German Shepherd mix named Rugby who looks like a muppet.

And lucky Hilary with your Cairns - I love terriers, the ones we’ve had (mixes and rescues) are like cat-dogs - very independent, almost aloof - you can “suggest” to a terrier, but they become surprisingly hard of hearing when you try and “command”!

Go girl! We had an Aussie Shep rescue mix, she was gorgeous and lived to be about 17 (we think, couldn’t be sure of birth date). When family visit, they still accidentally call my terrier girl “Kate” after our Aussie, because she was around so long! I tell them it’s all good, her spirit is still here.

Aw, that’s the best way to go - we should all be so lucky!

Great to know! My Bailey (Scottish Terrier mix) feels the same about the d word; all middle-aged females fight the battle with the waistline, right? Life is short, break out the goodies!

Ha! I got rid of my scale when I was 30, because I was tired of being ruled by its numbers. Instead I just try to eat well, and although I'm not skinny, I'm pretty darned healthy for someone who, gasp, has probably passed middle-aged. (Notice the "probably" - I'm in denial)
I had to go look up middle-aged, and it now is considered to be between 45 and 65. I am, as of my last birthday, considered to be an old person. I prefer to refer to myself as The Matriarch.

Our local used bookstore had either an Irish or Russian wolfhound that had a special chair he sat in at the store. He recently passed away and he was such a big celebrity he merited a front page story in our local paper.
Susan in NC wrote: "you can “suggest” to a terrier, but they become surprisingly hard of hearing when you try and “command”! ..."This is so true. Ours used to tilt her head from side to side listening. We know she understood everything we said- it just went in one ear and out the other. She loved to command us to do things for her: open the door, no close it again, no open it, FEED ME NOW!, what's this slop? feed me real food, rub my belly, don't stop! Let me out. I SAID ____" She had a special bark for commands. One short "Yip!" was for commanding the dumb two-leggers to do something for her. She also talked back "arooo!" People don't believe my dad when he tells them she was his favorite child, but it's true. She was my favorite siblings and my child at the end.

It sounds like she had a perfectly lovely life!
Well, I have lost internet connectivity at my house (thank you, lightning strike) because my modem/router exploded, and I am not sure when it will be fixed again. Only, I am tired of all the storms this past week (and more!)Have lost about a dozen trees, electricity on a few occasions, and then the lightning strike which luckily only affected the modem/router. Hopefully all the equipment to repair the connection arrivd today, so I should be back online tonight after work.
❇Critterbee wrote: "Well, I have lost internet connectivity at my house (thank you, lightning strike) because my modem/router exploded, and I am not sure when it will be fixed again. Sorry to hear that Mother Nature killed your home internet connection, but glad you escaped further damage to your house. Oh, your poor trees...
I hope you are currently basking in the sunshine. It took several days of sun, but our front yard no longer squishes when we walk across it!
My lawn has finally stopped squishing, also. And the lawn guys could finally come and mow down the rain-induced jungle. This sunshine is glorious after eight ( or more?) straight days of rain!
I am in Central Virginia, right near the mountains. That usually means that the worse storms just miss us, but this year has been pretty severe. I am happy that the electricity is not out!It is sunny today. And I believe tomorrow should be sunny as well. That is a nice break, and also means that the dogs are not on a 'go outside' strike anymore!
❇Critterbee wrote: "Well, I have lost internet connectivity at my house (thank you, lightning strike) because my modem/router exploded, and I am not sure when it will be fixed again. Only, I am tired of all the storms..."Oh no!
We have chance of TORNADOES (tornados? We never have them, so i don't know how to pluralize them) today. Severe thunderstorms, at least. We've had a glorious spring, but there have been a lot of crazy storms in between. But no snow! Except for the deer eating the tiniest apple trees that I hadn't covered in tutu netting yet because i was waiting for pollination on them, all my garden stuff is happy. Me, too. We'll see how this evening progresses!

We do get tornadoes here in Maryland; very rarely deadly, thank goodness.
The thunderheads are building up over the mountains, no breeze and it's hot! but other than that it's beautiful.

I know, VA has had it rough the last couple weeks! Here in northern NC, our weather reports include you folks - and we’ve had lots of rain, too, but breaks on and off. Up toward the VA border, there’s been almost constant thunderstorms/flas flood warnings! Be safe up there!

Here in Southern Ireland we've had beautiful weather for the last four days!!! Unbelievable!!! Everyone trying to make the most of it as Spring bypassed us completely and we've had Winter since last October. Sadly though it's due to go back to normal on Sunday. Rain, rain and more rain!!!!
Been the same here in Scotland Teresa. Summer arrived with a huge bang and has continued uninterrupted now for a week and a half. Storms due in the south of England tomorrow and will probably reach us late Monday - but it’s been lovely while it lasted.
No tornadoes, but a deluge and probably the most lightning & thunder I've ever experienced! Seriously epic - pretty sure I saw the Ark float by.

Supposedly, hurricane season is off to an early start here, Alberto is stirring up the Gulf of Mexico already, yikes!
Karlyne wrote: "No tornadoes, but a deluge and probably the most lightning & thunder I've ever experienced! Seriously epic - pretty sure I saw the Ark float by."Watch out for animals swimming by...we had lightening like that last week, it was still daylight so hard to see, it was like someone was flashing a huge flashlight on and off over the house - kind of scary, I was waiting for the power to go off but it held - for now!
They’re building a new apartment a couple blocks away on a main road, and twice now power has gone out on clear days for an hour or so, in the morning or late afternoon. If it keeps up, we may have to consider a generator!
We have underground power, so unless a transformer takes a direct hit, it's pretty reliable. Which is good, because we need it to power the well!
Our power is underground as well, and it powers our well. I usually miss the running water more than the power when it goes out! You know, the power has gone out so often here over these past two - three years or so, but before that it had not gone out for over ten years!
Also, all of our cold weather plants have bolted, just gone to seed because it has been so hot.
