Well, the kids were all boarded-and then they got to get off again. No pilot this time, two hour delay... ETA (approx. Ha!) 12:49am. But the temperature has dropped violently, to 106' at 10pm, so that's a plus.
Finally got them home at 3:20am. They were happy and exhausted, and so were we! But, now all is right with the world...

& I may not be around much the next couple of days as my daughter is unexpectedly back in the country. She & her partner are staying with us for a couple of nights before Chloe flies back to Australia. :)🥂

Have a nice visit!
Teresa wrote: "Enjoy!!"Yes it's great having them. Neither girl is an early riser so I have some time this morning.
We had an absolutely awesome storm last night. :? Everything still standing at our place, about to check our town's FB page for any reports of damage.
Abigail wrote: "I always forget that it’s midwinter for you!"You wouldn't forget if you were here! Chloe has a slight chill as temperatures are much warmer in Brisbane that over over here. Fortunately both girls left their winter coats with us.
Here in Ireland at the moment it's very hot and humid and we're not able for it. I don't like the heat anyway but I've just felt drained the last few days. Of course it could be raining here tomorrow. Our weather is totally unpredictable. I wouldn't like to be working as a weather forecaster over here:):)

It will be hot then but I couldn't stand the high temperatures in Brisbane between November & Feb.
I'm back on deck now after an action packed few days!We had heaps of people to dinner on Friday night (& our boy came home as well) Most unglamorously (after the guests departed fortunately) the toilet blocked. Marty thought he had cleared it but it blocked again Sat.
We dropped the girls at airport on Sat. Chloe has gone to Gold Coast to
But as far as Heyer goes, I'm back! :)

It is almost a law that any repair person you rely on must head out of town at the least opportune moment for you. They must have ESP of some kind in order to time it that way...

Ha! & he is an insane workaholic - he was either working 7 days a week or pighunting. Last time Marty tried to get hold of him Pete was on the way to the doctor (& of course he never turned up at or place) I wouldn't be surprised if he hadn't had a health scare & had medical advice to take a holiday.
& Toiletgate continues...A friend of Marty's is a drainlayer & he came up. No luck. We have left a message with a plumber & just hope he contacts us tomorrow. (Monday in NZ)

I hope he calls soon.
What a way to conclude what should be a nice weekend with your children as visitors!
& Toiletgate is over. After going to the public toilets in my pyjamas early this morning, I decided to spend most of my day at the op shop I volunteer at. When I came home, our plumber's son ( a plumber himself) was nearly finished. He found a small piece around an inch square that looked to be from an old ceramic sink or toilet. Total mystery how it got in our drains.I'll shut up now! :D
Oh my, you don't check in for a few days, then you come back and find..............TOILETGATE!
Glad it is over! A few years ago during flooding, the water and electricity were out for days. I had to go to internet cafes to shower - such a pain!
Maybe Toiletgate is a global affair! My daughter's new house is clogged up, too, and with 7 (one visiting) kids and 2 adults standing in line, they're out renting a snake to get to the"bottom" of things (haha!).

It always happens when you have guests. I found a cheap 3.5m snake online & am thinking about buying it. Matt (plumber) says they don't work so well with toilets but are a good idea for other blockages (sorry!)
Oh, the kid who's visiting is a cousin, so she's used to trauma! Luckily, they still have the use of their old house just down the road for another couple of weeks, so they're able to pilgrimage...
Karlyne wrote: "Oh, the kid who's visiting is a cousin, so she's used to trauma! Luckily, they still have the use of their old house just down the road for another couple of weeks, so they're able to pilgrimage..."Kids probably think hiking to old house for showers is an adventure!s
Carol - nothing to apologize for - waste and its sound management are crucial to healthy living, no matter how icky!
And they thought they had it fixed, but just heard that it's not draining again. It's been a stressful week! But I'm watching a rodeo from my windows- one rancher's bulls are trying to run off with another rancher's cows. I've already shooed them off, because they started nibbling my trees so I hope they get rounded up soon!
Karlyne wrote: "But I'm watching a rodeo from my windows- one rancher's bulls are trying to run off with another rancher's cows. Have you seriously faced down bulls who are - erm - very interested in cows? How big are they? That is brave! Be careful!
Luckily, he was more interested in the cows than in me! The funny thing is that the rancher had to take the bull (upon further observation I think there were about 30 cows and only one bull) into his pasture because his cows would just break out again if Mr. Big was still on the loose. So his owner, who lives down in the valley, will have his work cut out for him when he gets up here and has to separate him from his harem. But you really ought to see the cow dogs these guys have! Amazing animals!
Cow dogs? Cow herders? Cattle dogs! Are they a type pf breed, or just intrepid dogs? That sounds pretty cool. Mr Big sounds like he is a real cow's bull.
There are a couple different breeds that the ranchers use (and swear by). We even have a big competition/trial every year where the owners put their dogs through all their paces, but I haven't made it to it yet. They mostly use hand signals or voice commands. The cool thing is that you can tell that the dogs absolutely love working!

Our toilet wasn't filling properly, so we had the plumber back. We have problems with our heat pump & water tank. My poor husband is stressed out. I could understand it (stressing) about the toilet, but the other things just need to be fixed.
Karlyne wrote: "There are a couple different breeds that the ranchers use (and swear by). There even used to be a competition on TV to find the best of the best dog. I loved it because sheep may be stupid, but they are also unpredictable!
We used to watch them in England and Scotland, amazing dogs. We had a Sheltie who tried 2 herd us whenever we took him 4 a walk.
Hopefull this will play for everyone. This is a short clip showing how the eye dogs work.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VNYe...
We have sheep dogs, too, since we have a big Basque population (I think Idaho has the biggest percentage of Basques living outside the homeland), but we mostly see the cow dogs where we are since this is an area of non-industrial ranches. We also have a lot of "stock protectors", especially Great Pyrenees.
Loads of cows and sheep around us, but normally we only see sheep-dogs; never seen cow-dogs except on TV.

My family has a lot of dairy farmers but no sheep farmers. :)
One of the Longmire mysteries features a plot around the Basque, and, if I remember correctly, I think one of his deputies is Basque. I need to catch up with them. So many books...
Yes, Wyoming. There is also an excellent tv series which used to be on basic cable but got picked up by Netflix.
My husband and I both like it, good characters, excellent scenery, good actors, interesting stories.
There is a big yarn festival with sheep dog trials every year not too far from here. I love watching working dogs, and you can tell how much they love doing their job!

We do as well! That is when our fish became expensive as the exporters can get good prices overseas. Japan would be the main market for both of us.
Rarotonga/Cook Islands used to be a big fruit exporter but the costs became prohibitive. Now tourism is the main industry.
