Stunning doesn't do it justice! I love Ginsburg's work.Looking into info on the other cover, could it be by Philip Gough? I'll have to look into it further when I get a chance. He did a lot of Georgette Heyer books as well as lots of others.
I found another cover on eBay, not nearly as nice as these.

Ginsburg is awesome.
Samanta wrote: "Love that dress on the second pic :)"Nice. Check out this one. Pan always gets the racier covers.
Misfit wrote: "Nice. Check out this one. Pan always gets the racier covers."Lol, that looks like some of the pulp fiction SF I've read from the 40's and 50's. Just imagine a blaster in his hand, and change those wall-climbing guys into aliens!
Misfit wrote: "That is soooooooooooo not the Alex I knew in the book."I agree 100%. Nor is that Winter.
The Ginsburg cover is my favourite, I found it when I first read the book and was so in love with it that I donwloaded the highest resolution I could find, tweaked it with image software to make it print-ready, and plan to re-bind my book with that cover :D.

I'd love to see it too. I think I'll print it up and put it on the inside cover of my hardback.Tough call though. That Pan Giant cover is pretty attractive. ;)
Marquise wrote: "No, I haven't! Link, please? If you have it."Here it is.

And more to be seen at his website: http://www.ginsburgillustration.com/

My goodness!!!! It's so beautiful... I'm going to save it, use the software and print it :D.
A million thanks, Misfit, you're a sweetie. I know I abandoned Zemindar, but always had a plan to pick it up and resume it when I was in a better mood. Hope it's soon!
By the way, you know if Ginsburg has a Far Pavilions cover too? He should specialise in covers for Raj novels!
Marquise wrote: "By the way, you know if Ginsburg has a Far Pavilions cover too? He should specialise in covers for Raj novels!"I don't see one on the GR page. His work is superb. Look at this one for God is an Englishman.

Zemindar rocks, but if the book doesn't fit, such is life.
Yes, truly stunning! I read God is an Englishman years ago, and it's a Keeper of a book, really great one. Did you read it?Swann looks a bit Rhett Butler-ish in that cover!
As for Zemindar, never thought it was bad, honestly, just that at the time I was saturated. You know that happens, that sometimes the mood of the moment influences your reading, and when you reread or resume it at a later time, your impression is different. That happened to me, I believe.

Haven't read it yet, i do have a copy somewhere. He does look like RB, doesn't he?.
I hear you about moods and life's pressures making animpact on how well a book fits.

Yes, he does! And you see it too, so I am not hallucinating, unless we both are :D.
"God is an Englisman" is part of the Swann saga, but no need to read them in order, I didn't and nothing was lost, as each novel is a standalone. I'd recommend you to start with the mentioned one, and if you never read the others, no worries, the story in each concludes in each book too.
Mine is a Penguin edition from 1979.
Those Ginsberg illustrations are gorgeous. And I'll have to investigate God is an Englishman.
Can I start early?PS, I have the St Martin's Press edition. Breakdown below, if you want to use that for threads. I already know how it ends. My copy also has a family tree, can scan that if it's not in the other editions.
Feel free to start early, Misfit. It's a long book. I was going to look at it in the next day or two to try to figure out the best breaks for our discussion threads. If you've got a good breakdown, that would be great.
Book One, The Shadow Before, chapters 1-6Book Two, Kishan Prasad, chapters 7-19
Book Three, Conway chapters 20-27
Book Four, Moonrise, 28-39
Book Five, The Hirren Minar, chapters 40-46
Book Six, The Gulab Mahal, 47-the end
I am so terribly sorry this isn't in eBook format. It's so much easier for me to power through long books when I don't have to read paper copy! But I'm still looking forward to this though.

Ooh I'm so excited for this group read!! As soon as I finish my current series, I will start (so probably first week of August). :)
By the way, last week someone posted a comment somewhere, asking about starting in September rather than August. I was on vacation last week and didn't respond, and now I can't find that comment or remember who it was that was asking. If that person (whoever it was) is watching this thread, here's what I think: there are enough people planning on our August start that I don't feel like we should move it, but with a book this large we'll get people reading at all different speeds, and of course the threads will still be open for any late starters. Just start when you can!
I might have to have a late start too, then! Hopefully time will permit when I get back to the country and once school starts. (I assume we've have the book, mom?)
Emily wrote: "I might have to have a late start too, then! Hopefully time will permit when I get back to the country and once school starts. This is historical fiction, not fantasy, and it's a pretty long book, so you may or may not be interested, but you're welcome to join in. There'll be some other late starters.
BTW what is this picture that you're using?? Lol.
Dang. I gave that DVD to Tyler but I still need to watch it myself.NO KISSING ANY BOYS IN JAPAN! Unless they're really nice or good at drawing manga or something. :D
Sorry, everyone, I'm just teasing my 17 y/o daughter here. Meet Emily! She's actually very cute; just ignore the avatar pic she's chosen. She's on a study abroad in Japan for 6 weeks. I miss her. *wipes away a lonely tear*
Nice to meet you Emily! I hope that you enjoy reading with some (but not all) older ladies. And how exciting to study in Japan. Just yesterday I finishe a great novel by a Japanese woman writer. What a coincidence that your on your way to that country!
I just remembered today that this was about to start, so I am chiming in! I LOVE this book--I named my son Alex after Alex Randall.
Wow Cindy, that's great. Alex is one of the best protagonists of that fictional generation -- of M.M. Kaye's heroes he's my favorite

I found the cover just a few minutes ago when I was looking at all editions listed at GR.
