Please post a comment here if you're interested in joining a group read for Shadow of the Moon. Tentatively the start date is now set for August 1.

I'd like to read it. I'll have to buy it since my library system doesn't own it.This will be my first book with this author.
I hope this is available in mobi or ePub.
It is outrageous that Far Pavilions is not an eBook! Argh!
I'm tentatively in for this, summer reading schedule permitting. I've never read anything by M.M. Kaye before, although I've had The Far Pavilions on my TBR for forever now. Looks like my library doesn't have it, though, so I'll have to track down a copy.
Ashley wrote: "Oh, wait! Lies! I didn't realize she had written The Ordinary Princess. I love that book!"That was one of our favorites, but it somehow disappeared a few years ago. I need to find a new copy!
Andrea, I don't see any ebook versions available, but Amazon does have a lot of used copies available for a penny plus $3.99 shipping.
I have never read this author, but really want to! I'd love to join, but July won't work for me. I can always just catch up in August, if moving the date won't work for most people.
It's also available in digital format (PDF) at Open Library, for those of you who have access to it. That's how I got my copy to read last year.
Would sometime near the beginning of August work for you, Anne? I don't think a few weeks later is likely to make a difference to the group, but if anyone has an impossible August, let us know.

No eBook. Grrrr
Anne wrote: "I have never read this author, but really want to! I'd love to join, but July won't work for me. I can always just catch up in August, if moving the date won't work for most people."I'm willing to read in August.

Thank you :)

You're welcome! I won't be joining as I already read it, but will keep an eye on you all to see how you like this :).
I would like to join. But I have to see if I'll be able to find the book. I really dislike reading on my computer and it's hard to find anything here in Croatia.
Samanta, would Openlibrary.org work for you in Croatia? They do have an ebook copy that can be checked out.
And they do lend digital copies to users from other countries. You only need to have an Adobe Digital Editions reading software to download it to your PC if you don't have an e-reader, and be registered in the site. It's for free.
Adobe Digital Editions is free to download on Adobe's website. I had to get it recently for some of my NetGalley books.
Thank you, ladies! I know about the Openlibrary. I read Trade wind through it. I just want to try my luck with finding a physical copy first. I found a very cheap one on Amazon and asked my friend to buy it for me. So I might even have to book by the time we start reading. :)
I am excited to join in!! I have already ordered a used paperback that should arrive in 2 weeks or less.
I'm game for a reread, although I still recall a lot of the story. I don't know what it is with Kaye's US publishers and why they haven't digitalized her books. Everyone go to the Amazon page and click on the 'tell the publisher I'd like to read this on kindle' button.
I think I will join. Never read anything by this author. July is best for me. And into early August is likely ok. Not to find a copy of the book. Check back later. :-)
Since it appears the book club edition was split in two, be cautious when ordering via online sellers or swap. I noticed some listing say edition one as a single book when looking for The Wheel of Fortune. I might have ended up with half the book for one swap point.
ok, looks like there is an audio version available on audible which I just snagged. I haven't checked my library yet. But will be happy to buy a print used version from Amazon if need be for the group read. Looking forward to it. And learning about India. Thanks for inviting me.
Kaye has spent a lot of time there, and other foreign countries. I think her father was in the military. What i like about her writing is that she understands their mindset and culture, and always brings that difference home. And we're still out there with our unshakeable western mindset. The mini series for TFP is so good, despite my dislike of Amy Irving's portrayal of Juli. The scenery and costumes are stunning.
thanks Misfit. I used to like Amy Irving. I don't remember seeing her in much in a long time. Are the books connected? I am not familiar with any of them or the author, but, am intrigued after being invited to this group. Would I need to have read the other books to enjoy Shadow of the Moon? Or are they pretty much stand alone?

I like Amy Irving, just so much in the role of Indian princess with all that dark makeup plastered on her. Still, there's some nail biting scenes. Note: the mini series leaves a lot of the book out, and switches out timelines a bit. What happened at the very end of the show, is what 2/3 into the book and the Afghanistan stuff is at the end of the book. Watching the movie might be awfully spoilerish to the book itself.
I have read most of MM Kayes books including her mysteries which I really like. Looking forward to a reread of Shadow of the Moon. I actually have a personal copy of many of her titles including this one.

Chuckle....
Diane Lynn wrote: "I'll join in for a reread, sounds like fun!"Looking forward to it, and a repeat of that (view spoiler) :D
I've officially added SotM to our group bookshelf and set the start date for August 1. Looking forward to it!

You sure can pick the scenes, can't wait!

The last third was my favorite part.

Tadiana, you're killing me. :D :D :D

Hah--I'm glad someone picked up on that. :)
She's the best. I think I've mentioned this in other threads, but Zemindar by Valerie Fitzgerald is a great companion piece to Kaye's book. Same period - Sepoy Mutiny and the siege at the Lucknow residency, but SOTM covers events outside and Zemindar inside the residency.
