Need a name for a character in my novel

I am almost done with my YA novel. It's called The Secret Diary of Nolan Omolade. Nolan is a mixed skin Nigerian whom struggles with his mediocre parents. Misguided and yearning for acceptance, he decides to record the events that unfold in his life.

Nolan's mum is a Caucasian from South Africa. Her current name is Kate but I am skeptical about it. I was wondering if her name should be changed and if so then to what?

You picked Kate for a reason. Maybe going for the full name version of Kate like Katherine or Kathleen, or Katrina, or Katelyn would work better for you?
