Sage stood in the master bedroom, brushing her hair. Her husband, Derek, was sitting on the bed. They had married to please his family. Not for love. To keep up the image, they slept in same room. Same bed. But they had their obvious sides when they finally went to bed. She sighed softly and started braiding her hair.

Derek sighed. He hated the fact that he had to marry some girl that he didn't even like. He didn't even have the slightest crush on her. He stood up and loosened the tie around his neck and walked the restroom, changing into pajama pants and a shirt. He went back into the room and towards the bed, laying down on his side with out even saying good night to Sage.

Sage chewed her lip. She was trying. She really was but his responses and cold shoulders always made it seemed worthless. Sage climbed into bed and got under the covers. "Goodnight." she said softly, not knowing if he was still awake. Sage reached up and turned off the lamp on her side of the bed.

Derek kept quiet. Him his mind he didn't even believe it was worth to say good night. He didn't like her, not even one little bit. Which was why he gave her the cold shoulder. He hoped it would get to the point where she would just leave him alone, almost as if they were only roommates in college. He sighed again and closed his eyes.

Sage buried her face and the tears streamed silently down her cheeks. Some people thought she was lucky being married to rich man but it was hell. He didn't care about her and it was nothing like marriage. Some days she got too low. Sage had thought about killing here self once it twice but had never put the thought into action. A day above ground is a good day, she said to herself every morning.

Derek slowly fell asleep, not caring if she was asleep by now or not. He thought about the work at task for the next day, what he needed to do and all the steps that needed to be finished by the end of the week. It was important he had to finish the week out strong. If he didn't, and he got bad views, he could be in deep trouble. Not just him, but his company.

Sage never really fell asleep that night but tossed and turned fitfully. When she woke the next morning, Derek was gone and tears had stained her pillow case. Again. She tore off the pillow case and threw it away in the trash. She got out of bed and went to the bathroom to start off her day.

Derek was finally at work and all his workers were trying to talk to him. "Just wait until I call the meeting." He told them and sighed, walking to his office quickly. He looked through his emails from other companies, then through some other stuff, then called his meeting.

Sage spent the day reading and cleaning. They didn't have a maid because Sage was home all day to do it herself. Sage looked out one of the windows, watching as the birds flew past or stopped at the bird feeder she had put out in the yard. Sage smiled and threw some bird feed onto the back deck.

Derek smiled. He had heard good news and all was going well. He stood and shook hands with some of the people he knew and walked back to his office. "I'm..." He started to save was going to take the rest of the day off bu remembered he would be going back to home...to where his wife was. He sighed

Sage sat on the back deck, throwing feed to the birds. She loved nature. She also loved children and it pained her to she was never going to have children. Sage knew it there wasn't much hope of Derek ever really loving her. Sure they kissed and held hands in public but at home they stayed away from each other. Or rather, he stayed away from her.

He packed his stuff, even though he wished to stay. He didn't want anyone to get suspicious about his marriage and left the building. He drove home in his camaro and parked in the garage. Walking in, he stretched and set down his briefcase in his office, sitting down in the large roller chair

Sage heard Derek come home and wondered why he was home so early but she didn't go find him. Sage stayed out back and read her book, hoping that he just ignored her. She really did. Sage just wanted to be left alone in the peace and quiet she had created. Sage curled up on the swing and read her book, occasionally stopping to look around.

Derek smiled. Finally he felt like she had gotten the point, and that made him happy. Except there was a side to him where he felt a bit lonely, but he always pushed that away quickly...like now. He pulled out some documents and his laptop to go through the emails and some more information.

Sage went inside after a few more hours and she went to the kitchen. She checked the time on the microwave. 4:17pm. She had no idea when Derek wanted to eat but she wasn't going to bother him. Sage took and apple and started peeling it with a knife. As she peeled, her mind wandered and she cut her finger. Sage hissed in pain as she looked down. Blood spilled onto the apple and she threw it in the trash. Sage washed her finger off and her gaze wandered to the stairs leading to Derek's office. She just wanted attention. Sage felt lonely and unloved and it hurt.

Derek stretched and turned on his tv in there, watching the news. True he was feeling lonely too, but he didn't quite understand how to love someone. He didn't even want a wife. He sighed and closed his eyes. He'd sleep in the chair if he had to.

Sage bandaged her finger, comparing that pain to the one in her heart. She went upstairs to his study and knocked on the door. Sage cracked it open and went inside. "When do you want to eat, Derek?" she asked, never looking at him. Sage felt more like a maid then his wife. But she guessed he didn't care.

He groaned quietly. He wished she wasn't here. "Nothing." He said. If that's what it took to get her away from him. He couldn't stand her being there....or could he? He wasn't sure anymore. She was nice to have around at times but she was annoying to him. He refused to give in to that feeling though.

Sage fisted her hands in the skirt of the dress she was wearing, pain searing her. He could at least let her do her "job". "Why do I try?" she said, hoping Derek heard as she left the room. Sage passed at the door, her hand on the door knob. "If you like me so little, then divorce me. It's either put up with me or disappoint your parents." Sage told him before leaving the room. She hugged herself as she walked down the stairs. Sage couldn't take being unloved anymore.

He sighed. After a moment he rolled around in the chair. "Why her? Why people? Why marriage? Why?!" He mumbled and kicked his desk. He sighed and leaned his head down and closed his eyes, replaying her words, not that it mattered.

Sage went quietly through the house to their bedroom. She took out a duffel back and shoved clothing in it. She wasn't staying any longer. Sage put in her necessities and zipped it up. She threw her phone in the trash and didn't bother to leave a note. As she did all that, she cried. They had been married for months. Months, and still he didn't love her. Sage left out the front door and took her car from the garage. She drove away, going to the one person she knew would take her in. Maxx.

Derek sighed and knew she left. He wondered if she would come back, she hadn't done this before. He shrugged and went to his room.

Maxx was in the living room, watching a basketball game. He over sports, he also loved comedy and what not, which was what he was waiting for.

Sage drove to Maxx's house. She parked in his driveway and got out of her car, duffel bag in hand. Safe knocked on the door and waited.

Maxx jumped up and strolled over to the door, unlocking it. "Sage!" He smiled and opend the door wider for her to come in. "How are you?!"

Sage walked in and turned to face him. She was quiet for a moment before bursting into tears. All at once, her held back emotions flooded out and she sank to the floor. Her tears streaked down her cheeks as she cried.

"What....hey what's wrong?" He asked and held her close to him. "What happened?" He asked worried for her more than ever.

Sage held onto him, crying softly. "I can't do it anymore, Maxx." she choked out, hiccuping as she cried. Sage took comfort in his embrace. "He hates me. I know he does." Sage told him, burying her face into his chest.

"Derek?" He asked. Suddenly he grew pissed off with the fact that a guy like him marries someone like her yet throws her out. He held her tighter. "Stay here, he won't get you." He said

Sage didn't fight Maxx. She could tell by the way he had stiffened that he was angry. "Alright." she said, sniffling. Slowly, Sage stopped crying and she just sat in his arms. Sage closed her eyes and rested her head on his shoulder.

He rocked gently, holding her so gently yet so close. He closed his eyes and rubbed her shoulders, hoping she'd calm down more

Sage held onto Maxx. Her new lifeline. She relaxed into his embrace and took a deep breath. Why on earth couldn't Derek love her?

Sage shook her head. "Unless you can make him treat me like his wife, there's nothing you can do." she told him.

He sighed. "It's fine. Just divorce him, I mean I know it's not that simple but he doesn't deserve you." He said

Sage sighed softly and rested her head on his chest. "What will I do then? I don't have a job or a place to stay." Sge argued, looking up at him.
