Help...I can't remember the name or author!

Please help me! I read this book years ago, probably more than 7 years ago. This is one of the first books that I read that started my reading addiction, I can't remember a lot about it or even if it was a good book. So, this is what I remember: the woman was abused by a ex husband? and he has her child?, she is given a number to call to get a gun or someone that maybe will kill her ex for her, she gets in touch with this man that trains her in self-defense so she can takeout her ex but this man that helps her is not very nice to her and calls her helpless, skinny, scrawny. I can't remember if they end up together or not but it's not a lovey dove love story. Thank you for reading this and if you can help I would be greatly appreciate it!
