P.S. I Still Love You
question
SPOILER WHY?!

Okay, I'm really frustrated right now, I just finished this book, and there were a lot of things that I didn't get. Like
Why did Peter take The necklace back?, and why he was such a jerk when he asked for it? Do you guys have any explanation for this.
Why he acted like he doesn't care about Lara Jean after they broke up?
And I felt like he wanted her back, just because she was with someone else?
Please if you've any explanations for these questions tell me.. :(
Thanks

I think that when he asked for the necklace he actually wanted and waited for her to protest/show she still cares for him too. Is a scene similiar to one she wrote in It's not summer without you, with another couple.
I think that he was a jerk in that scene, not in the, whole book.
While I still think that he could've handled things different and be more honest with Lara Jean, I still admire that he tried to help somebody who needed his help, even when that person hurt Lara Jean and him. It would've been so easy for him to send her to go screw herself, but he helped her, even if she didn't deserve it.And that both him and Lara Jean made flawed decitions while figuring out how to be together for "real". Lara Jean flirted with John while still being on a relationship with Peter. Both did things that hurt each other, but at the end of the day they apologized for it and decided to do better, and that's what I liked, their decition to be "real" that they reached by the end of the book.
I think that he always wanted her back, but that a lot of things -like, Gen, and both Peter and Lara Jean being unable to let go of her; John, themselves, like being afraid of being hurt and of hurting the other- got in the way. That, and how, in his pov, Lara Jean seemed to move on pretty quickly from their break-up. I think both of them were confused with how they were feeling, and afraid of it, and ended up hurting each other.

There's a moment when he's lingering at his desk right before he turns around and asks for the necklace back which makes me think that it could also possibly be because he was trying to think of an excuse to say something to her and look her in the eye without her telling him to get lost. Remember that his heart was beating, too. :)
I agree that he's just a heartbroken seventeen-year-old boy who doesn't really know how to express his feelings. I wish we got to see a little more of him before the book ended, but I still loved these two a lot.

I think Peter is a good guy at heart. He has a lot of admirable qualities. However, he has to grow up. And so does she for that matter.
There were a lot of things in this relationship that hinted that the break up was inevitable and a good idea.
The insecurity from the start, the tension with Gen, her less than enthusiastic support as his girlfriend. His neediness.
The author did really make us think that John was going to come in and take over. Especially the history between them.
Toward the end. I thought that she was over him. And then all of sudden its like nope.. I never was.
And then the thing with Stormy..yeah totally saw that coming of course..
John seems to care more about her. But then Peter is complicated character. But he needed to be more open and honest.. and he wouldn't have put himself in those compromising situations to begin with.
I really don't think we have seen the last John though.

I see why you would think that Peter was a jerk. I was taken aback by his brunt attitude when it came to getting the necklace back from her. But just like what someone else here said, I too believe that once boys find a girl they really like they do fall hard and are unsure of how to handle their emotions. I think that was his way of protecting himself and also trying to make her see that she hurt him. I'm not saying he went about it the right way, but I see why he did it.
You also have to remember that these are 16/17 year old kids and a lot of the things they're going through is new for them and they're learning how to deal. He's immature and has a lot of growing up to do, but that can be said about everyone. Everyone does things in the heat of a moment that they wish they could take back later.
I think Peter is a good guy deep down. The reason I really loved his character was that he wasn't this perfect guy that always said and did the right thing. He was real. I prefer him over John Mclaren, who was a very likable guy but in so many ways felt too much like a dream.

I know! I honestly would have prefer if Lara Jean stayed with John. John is so much better than Peter in this book, Peter did not believe Lara Jean about the whole Gen thing, and when he found out it was Gen, he didn't say anything to Lara Jean not even apologies for not believing her. John is just the full package and Peter was cute and sweet in the first book, but he just did a whole 180 in this one. I honestly do not understand why he didn't tell Lara Jean he got Gen for the game and did not tell Lara Jean about that as well, and the whole "I need the necklace back" thing was just so stupid of him, like really? You're gonna take back the necklace you gave her and then give it back??? Honestly I don't know why Lara Jean chooses to go back to Peter when there is John like right there waiting for her!

Exactly. But I loved Peter (The first book Peter), I wanted her to choose him, but not to choose the second book Peter, So I was waiting for maybe som

With the necklace thing, I think that was just because she had broken his heart, and he almost wanted her to see how it felt. I think he was acting like he didn't care even though he did. One of those fake-it-til-you-make-it things.
& I think he always wanted her back, but again, was trying to just move on. But seeing her with John was too much for him, especially so soon after they broke up.
Overall, I know Peter was more of a jerk this time around, but honestly I think the majority of that was stemming from the fact that Lara Jean was continually questioning his loyalty to her, which led to constant fights between them. imo, he was still the same Peter Kavinsky we know and love :)

I thought the same, but then I thought, but he knew she broke up with him not because she hated him, but because she thought he didn't get over Gen wh

I don't think Peter was a jerk. I think it is because he's actually hurting. And the reason he asked for the necklace back was probably to see if she would give him back or not cos if she decided not to, he knew that there is still a part of her that wants him back. Relationships are like that especially when two people falls hard for one another. They tend to push and pull with each other. It's not really fun but it's what kept the fire burning.
Believe it or not, when guys falls in love, they really fall very hard because they just don't know what to do especially when they watched how their girls simply able to walk freely like they're unaffected. The thing, boys have huge egos so when they're hurting they don't express it too well unlike us girls. We can cry all night and talk out our feelings to our friends and sisters but guys aren't like that. Most of them would hold their emotions inside of them to a point they will begrudged their exes.
I'm not a guy but I have a guy for a best friend and I have watched him fall hard for a girl that didn't end up happily ever after between them.

Yeah, I don't get the whole necklace thing either. Peter kind of turned into an ass in this book... There was the whole Gen thing, the video and Gen thing, the cake walk mess, shoving the necklace back into LJ's hands and forcing her to take it back etc... I think he has some growing up to do. As does LJ. Maybe he was trying to hide the fact that he was hurt until he realized if he didn't get a move on it, someone better is going to snatch her away? Meh.
Even if Lara Jean ended up with Peter! I'm team Johnny alll way!!! Peter is just too complicated, one time he's a jerk than the other time he's total sweet heart!
