Joanne Farley I love the smell of a new book not so much an old one. That is something I miss with my Kindle.

Marisol | 1 comments I love the smell of book...new and old but new ones are the best--and text books are even better :o

message 53: by Rebecca K-G (new)

Rebecca K-G (rebeccak-g) I get exactly what you mean. That's why I love the smell of book stores, especially used book stores & libraries.

Angelica Thompson | 134 comments those ancient bibles that have like gold on the side of the pages smell really good lol

message 56: by Ruth (new)

Ruth That happens to me too. I go to bookstores and smell books. It drives mu husband crazy. When I finally read the book, somehow it doesn't smell the same, even if I read it that same day.

message 57: by Kimi (new)

Kimi (hateeverybeautifulday) My friend confided in me that if she ia torn between two books and doesn't know which to buy, she'll smell the books and buy the one that smells the best!! I reckon that is a good way of choosing XD

message 58: by Sonila (new)

Sonila | 7 comments I have noticed that there are few smells which r kind of recurring in many books .. Whatever b the reason ... I love the smell that comes from old books which have been kept in boxes n cupboards .. Locked for years.. When I read them I feel like... Once upon a time years back someone else read these books and I am going to go thru the same pages feel the same things that person felt decades back n it intrigues me :D

message 64: by Savannah (new)

Savannah (skyswriting) That is why I could never ever fully go 100% Kindle haha. I love my books too much

message 65: by A.D. (new)

A.D. (adseeley) | 5 comments I have a Kindle, which is great, but I much prefer a real book. And I have to have it in hard copy if it's available. Nothing can calm me down on a bad day like a good whiff of hard copy book. :)

Jennifer | 32 comments Lol. Ok I guess I am not the only person that does this!

message 69: by Zahrah (new)

Zahrah (zahrahwhy) | 20 comments the feeling when you open a new book (esp. when you open a new amazon package!) with a stiff spine and flick through the pages and unintentionally sniff that new book smell. KYAAAAAAA.

Bian is always tired | 53 comments I love the smell of a brand new book. The smell of a bookstore in amazing! Although people look at me funny when I stick my nose into a book and take a long hard sniff. Sometimes different books smell different. I think the one book I picked up smelled like soil just before it rains.

message 71: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte (caelestial) | 33 comments Aw man, reading all of this really makes me want to go to a bookstore right at this moment. Too bad it's almost 12 AM.
Wouldn't a book-smelling perfume be nice? I wouldn't use it but I'd love to just spray everything with it.

message 72: by Simon (new)

Simon (simmy131) | 7 comments I am an unabashed book-smeller. I generally prefer the new-book smell (so for those of you who have found my nose prints in bookshop books, I am deeply sorry), partially, I think, because I'm a sucker for the shiny and new.
I have this one book that smelled like lemon balm (peculiar for a book, I know) that I absolutely love!

message 73: by Joanne (new)

Joanne Monroe (lollijojo) | 10 comments the smell of books is such a comfort to me. :)

Ralica Ivanova | 18 comments I am pretty lazy in this... I love the smell of a book (especially the old ones when you go tot he theological section of the library) but I gladly give it up to have the book that matches my mood or imagination in a split of a second (anywhere, anytime) :)

message 80: by [deleted user] (new)

I personally thought I was weird because I thought I was one of very few who like the smell of book. I like the smell of both old and new but I prefer the new ones because of the fresh clean smell. It's really nice :)LOVE it!

message 81: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (delgril92) | 12 comments I always sniff the pages of a new book. It's something I can't do on my Kindle.

message 82: by Jack (last edited Mar 06, 2013 12:10PM) (new)

Jack (jack_) Haha, me too Lauren.

I wish I could "Like" your comment.

message 83: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Perry | 229 comments I too enjoy the smell of books, both kind. If you walk into a library or a second hand bookstore its like you breathe in history. Whereas when you go into a books a million or other bookstore you can smell the scent of untried authors and hidden wonders yet to be discovered. Crisp and clean but in need of the love of a hand turning its pages; a hand to put the first oily prints on it.

message 84: by Michael (new)

Michael (lovechild) | 280 comments There is this great book store back that I would frequent back in my collage days it just smelled of comfort. It is called Coas bookstore I loved to just finding a quite isle to sit and read and enjoy the smell.

message 85: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Ocenosak (jocenosak) | 1 comments Wish someone could make a candle out of fresh book smell. I do ebooks to save money and because we travel. Every now and then I get a new book and its so refreshing taking in the new book smell. I do like dusty old books as well.

message 86: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Perry | 229 comments My favorite place in the world used to be the walden's books in Beckley when they closed I nearly cried. The woman who worked there was so nice she'd give me advice on books she had read and everything. She was like a friend back then. I was a lonely kid in high school

message 87: by [deleted user] (new)

If you google it there are two perfumes currently on the market that are sujpposed to smell like books. I would buy one if they weren't so pricey.

message 88: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Perry | 229 comments wow they will put a high price on anything if there is very few places that create it

message 89: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah one was 115 dollars for a little bottle, that was the best cause it wasd pure book smell. Theother one they mixed with a popurri type scent to make it seem like a shop. Ruined it in my opinion.

message 90: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Perry | 229 comments I think its the ink that's used. I love magazines for the same reason

message 91: by Olya (new)

Olya Oh... It's such an addiction... But noone can compete with my friend...She is so crazy about smell of books, that sometimes she looks mad)))

Jocelyne Lebon I used to love it but now I can't smell them anymore and I miss it terribly. It was such a large part of my pleasure of reading.

why can't you smell it anymore?

message 95: by Melissa (last edited Mar 18, 2013 06:59PM) (new)

Melissa Eisenmeier (carpelibrumbooks) I bought a new book from the friend of a friend, and he caught me smelling the book. I just smirked at him, a little embarrassed, but figured that part of the enjoyment of real books is the way they smell.

I lost most of my sense of smell after two colds. I only have a very faint sense of smell left, and unfortunately not enough to enjoy the fragrance of a book. Enjoy your nose while you have it!

Angelica Thompson | 134 comments Michael wrote: "Ahhh book smell, old or new i enjoy.
But it is the whole thing with books, the weight and feel of paper, looking at the cover over and over.
As other have said it great to have so many books on..."

ah yes I do peek at the cover quite a few times while reading. It truely is the essence of an actual book, so tangible, so real...

message 98: by HZar (new)

HZar Worth | 66 comments Our novella The Canarsie Flash smells like honeydew and tofu. Check us out.

message 99: by Angelica (new)

Angelica Thompson | 134 comments honeydew and tofu? that sounds awesome haha

message 100: by Emma (new)

Emma Joy | 15 comments It is the kind of smell that you would not want to put on as a perfume but you can't deny the fact that you cannot resist the urge to sniff it once in a while.
