Mary rose an eyebrow" really?"she asked suprised
showed her her room it was a large room. He hated servant quarters to he made a nicer room
He nodded,"I hope you like it. Feel free to make yourself at home."Maddie happily smiled, "Thank you." She whispered in awe.
Carter smiled" you are welcome to anything in the house"
Mary smiled small as she looked at her room .She was super cute when she smiled but it rarely happened.
Kade blushed a bit and turned away to go enter the kitchen. Maddie smiled softly, at her feet.
Mary looked at him"Thank you"she said softly
Carter looked at the room
"Do you like it?"he asked
"Of course." She said softly, sitting on the bed. Kade nodded, still not turning to face her. He kept walking
Mary looked around she reached to touch the bedding and the cracked rib screamed. She pulled back holding her side and went to the bathroom and wrapped her ribs with old wrap she had in her bag but it wasn't very helpful
Carter smiled"good! Anyways I have leftovers I'll heat up for lunch"he said
Kade heard a scream. He rushed up the stairs."Whats wrong?!"Maddie smiled again at her feet. "Okay."
Mary bi her lip cursig herself"nothing I'm fine. sorry to disturb you"she said softly
Carter smiled and went downstairs to start cooking
"Tell me." He demanded She nodded, thinking.
Mary heard an edge to his voice"I just hurt my ribs a while ago when I was on the streets
Carter finished and knocked on her door
Kade sighed, and his face was concerned."Let me get the nurse."Maddox was showered and redressed. She looked so much better when she answered
Carter was supeised when he opened be door."you look very nice"he complimented sencerly "lunh is ready"
Mary bit her lip
"no it's fine. But could I use some wrap?"she asked and cowered as if by asking a question might result in a slap or hit

She smiled."Thank you." He nodded, jogging to the supply closet
Mary relaxed a tad."thank you."
Carter walked next to her and when they got to the table he served plates as she sat down
She asked,"Shoukdnt I do this?"Kade cake back and handed it to her
Carter grinned"you don't start till tomorrow. Even then I won't have you do much. I didn't even want a slave . My dad made me get one"he said. The anger to his father boiled in his tone at the last part. It was obvious he did not have a good relationship with his dad
Mary heasitantly took it.
"I'm sorry for being rude earlier today. I just kind of go into armidillo mode when I panic "she said softly attempting to put them both in a lighter mood
Oh" maddie looked down at her food, playing with it."Sorry..."
Kade nodded."It's scary. I understand."
Carter shrugged" don't be "
Mary looked at him. *no you dont*
" thanks"
"Yeah." He replied softly turning back around."Come down when your ready." She shrugged, biting her lip
Mary nodded and went to the bathroom and wrapped her ribs Carter gave her her food
" enjoy!"
He went downstairs, wiping tables and such. He mumbled things. She smiled."Thanks." Maddie mumbled
Mary came down quickly"I'll do that"she said softly seeing him cleaning
Carter watched her
" so tell me about yourself"
Kade turned to her saying nicely."No, Erm I mean you'll start later. Not today." Maddie laughed gently."There isn't much to know."
Carter smiled , he liked her laugh"Ok ummmm what's your favorite color"
Mary nodded.
" ok. "She said and looked around in awe
He gestured at a chair as he rinsed dishes."You can sit if you like."She shrugged."Pink? Blue?"
Mary nodded "Alright. You have a beautiful house"
Carter grinned
" ummmmm where are you from"
She smiled. "Eh, Oklahoma." That made her miss home. "Thank you. It took awhile." He winked.
Carter looked up at her"Really? Me to"
Mary Made a half smile. A big accomplishment . She ran her fingers over the marble counter
She smiled."Cool!""Anything you want to do?" He asked
Carter smiled back. He ate some of his sandwichMary tilted her head
"What do you mean"
"Like sleep, explore...?? "She ate a little too
Mary laughed softly , a beautiful sound. " I think I'll look around"she said softly
Carter watched her. She was more interesting then he'd expected
Maddie looked up, gleaming. Kade nodded,"Alright. Call if you get lost."
Carter chuckled" oh and by the way. I leave for an hour every day at 4:00 just so you know"
Mary nodded and stood she slowly traveled throughout the living room. She didn't want to touch anything
"Oh okay." She nodded, biting her lip again, a bad habit. Kade still cleaned, wondering what she was doing.
Mary explored for a long while.Carter smiled at her habit and chuckled
Maddie looked up relasing it,"What?" Kade laughed as he knew she was pondering it
Carter smiled with a shrug"you keep biting your lip. "he pointed out
Mary came back after a while
"wow your house is amazing"she said quietly
She laughed."Ya, it's a bad habit huh?"Kade laughed. He was sitting down a reading a book."Why thank you."
Mary smiled small. She looked at his book"That book has a great ending"she said . Usually slaves never learned to read . She had sunk some books from a library and tought herself
"I've heard." He grinned up at her and began reading more.
Mary walked slowly to her room still looking around. She sat on her bed and closed her eyes fingering her locket
Maddie nodded and followed, slowly.
