Jonas The | 6 comments I read "Life, the Universe, and Everything" by Douglas Adams. This book is the sequel to "The Restaurant at the End of the Universe," and "The Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy." This story focuses on the Cricket Wars, which were the planet of Cricket's plan to end the universe because it didn't fit with their logic.

The story begins with Arthur Dent and Ford Prefect on primitive earth, and follows them going through a loophole in time to the present time. They are transported to a cricket field in London in the middle of a game. Suddenly, white robots from space come from a spaceship and start killing the cricket players with cricket bats. Ford and Arthur chase after the robots in a ship with Zarniwoop. From that point forward they learned about the history of the Cricket Wars and the plans for the robots to end the universe.

This book is the best result of a Monty Python, History Documentary, and Star Wars stew. I found that this book had more of a serious tone than the other books in the series, less of a focus on jokes, and more on Cricket's history. I wouldn't say that this is a bad book, but it's not at its full potential.

If you liked the previous books because of the jokes, you may be a little disappointed by this book, but you certainly won't regret reading it. It might actually like people who enjoy humor sprinkled into a serious situation. The funniest part was when Arthur meets a being he has killed over multiple reincarnations.

All together if I had to rate this book, I would rate it 3.5/5. I might pick up on this series again next year.
