What is your favorite accompaniment to reading? Music? Food? A blanket? A friend? Comment below!

Meleah Shepard | 14 comments A blanket for my feet & a comfy pillow for my back. I'm high maintenance;)

Keeley | 22 comments My pink fluffy blanket (yes, that is its name), and a cup of coffee/tea/hot chocolate. :)

I like to sit on my bed in the middle of the night. But that only works in Summer when no one wants the light out yet. Or, during the year when one should sleep, I like to sit on the couch with a blanketish thing. I'm one of those weird people that don't like to eat or drink whilst reading. It might mess up the book! But I see why some people do.

Keeley | 22 comments I have never yet messed up a book. You just have to do it properly.

I agree with Felicity. How do you read the book when the cup is in the way? Unless it's a boring book I wouldn't want to pause so much.

message 7: by Meleah (new)

Meleah Shepard | 14 comments You can read and sip at the same time. Books and Tea thrive together!

But the cup blocks the words! And you get distracted by the cup and how good the tea is, and then you don't get the full effect of what the person is saying.

My feelings exactly!

message 10: by Keeley (new)

Keeley | 22 comments NO....it doesn't. How could a teeny cup block a whole page of words? Do you hold the book right next to your face?

message 11: by MeKency (new)

MeKency | 61 comments Mod
Apparently. Haha! But the cup covers my face! Maybe we have just not mastered the art:)

Yeah, I hold it pretty close:) But I did an experiment today and found that I am able to take a drink without it blocking the book, but that it is annoying to find a place to set it, unless I am sitting at a table, and the picking up and setting down of the cup makes one move about, which also is difficult. But perchance that is just me and I have weird problems with tea and books:)

message 13: by Keeley (new)

Keeley | 22 comments I demonstrated various ways of holding a cup with a book for Felicity. She agrees with me now :D Not to be offensive to anyone who still disagrees :)

Yes, I admit defeat:) Sort of. In that it is logical now to do so, but it is still not comfortable to me as a Felicity.

Oh, and I have rather an annoying tendency to spill my tea! I must be clumsy...

Ahem. Back to the original question. Sorry to break up the party. If I have music playing (which I don't usually, because I find it distracting; though it is nice if something else that is louder is distracting you.) I like for it to be instrumental music that is interesting, but soft, and in the background. The PianoGuys are really nice for such purposes.

message 17: by Keeley (new)

Keeley | 22 comments Yeah, I don't mind noise in the background, but I don't usually like listening to music while I read. :/

I detest noises or talking while I'm reading but eventually I block it out. I agree with Felicity that soft instrumental music is a help drone out noise.

I get distracted easily if people are talking because I always want to hear what they are saying. Maybe it is important! But it is not good if one is trying to read.
