Todd needs to wake up. Has to!

Some series that continue making books make me want to gouge my eyes out but I would LOVE another book. I wouldn't care if it just says, "Todd wakes up the end." That would be just fine. The ending was just so open that it makes me sad.
Mmmm, I have to disagree. By leaving it as an open ending, Ness allowed for the readers to decide the ending however they'd like. Some people wanted a bittersweet ending with Todd dying, and others wanted a happy ending, but the author left it open so whichever ending the reader wants they can think of after the book. I personally thought it'd be a more fitting ending if Todd died, or woke up too late and Viola moved on or something more dramatic like that.

Whether it's laziness or unwillingness to deal with reader complaints, I think it was the perfect ending. It's open for the reader to determine on their own. If you really want a spoonfed ending, then you can keep calling the author, who already put in enough work for three books, lazy.
I personally think Todd will wake up. The final line pretty much sealed it for me. However I liked the slight ambiguity of the ending, because it meant I couldn't stop thinking about the book for ages! Part of me would love another book, but at the same time, I feel like Todd and Viola's story ended perfectly.

I loved the ending because I felt like he did wake up.Todd always came back to Viola, it was a constant throughout all of the books. Viola never gave up on Todd and Todd always came back to her. Just because I didn't get to be apart of the reunion I know there was one because that's the only thing that makes sense. :)
"Keep calling for me Viola-
Cuz here I here I come"
I love the way this book ends!
Actually Patrick Ness follows up Monsters of Men with a mini story that answers that unanswered question!!Here's the link hopefully it helps! I for one wouldn't change a thing about the books, they're wonderful :) But it is nice to get some closure.

Best/worst ending ever. It wasn't even a cliffhanger because there is no implied intention to continue the series. Ness, you MONSTER!!!!!! I remember my sister flipped to the last page and read it out loud while I was in the next room. At first I was like what are you talking about? and then I had this moment of realization whereafter I roared like Godzilla.
I like that he leaves it open for interpretation.

I agree. I did not even question it I just assumed Todd woke up eventually. I love that it was not a pat phoney happy ending. Hey will the post Monsters of Men ruin the book for me if I loved the ending? Okay I just read it and I am surprised Ness even wrote it, kind of pointless to the ending of monsters of men but it did not ruin the book for me

This kid.... he's like my secret love. Ever since I read the first sentence to the very last I was and still am totally in love with Todd Hewitt. He's like my best friend! If I saw Todd walking down the street I'd run up to him and give him the biggest hug in the world - I'm actually jealous of Viola.
I want Todd to wake up at the end. Don't you agree?
