Hi Jill,
Thanks for getting this started!
The three moderators/creators of this group are all indie authors -- women blazing a trail in this crazy world of self-publishing (attempting to, anyway). We've each recently released debut novels. I'll add them to the bookshelf, but you can also find them on our Goodreads author pages, Amazon and our website at www.threewritersofromance.com.
We're all busy women juggling jobs, kids, husbands, households, volunteer activities, etc. We'll take turns telling our stories and talking about the women in our lives and fiction!

I love reading books with strong female leads and a bit of controversy.
I have all sorts of links and would love to connect.

I'm about to release my debut novel and I'm an utter newbie. I'm hoping to ground with a group like this - a place to talk shop and get support without the frenetic intensity of blogging.
I've lived all over (9 states and Germany). However, I did high school and college in the Midwest. After many years of soul searching in Boston and San Francisco, I've returned to the Midwest and am accepting my "roots."
I minored in Women Studies and consider myself to be a traditional feminist (instead of a modern fem). I prefer strong, indivual female characters and just wrote a blog post about romantic character devices.

You can find me on Twitter (@martinbeks), Facebook (I'll have to come back with the link), and my blog, http://themodernjaneausten.blogspot.com.
I got my BFA in Creative Writing (Screenwriting) from Stephens College in 2009. I got next to no marketing education from them, but I got a decent writing education.
Upon learning about Indie Publishing, I took matters into my own hands, finished the book, Sugar and Spies, and uploaded it to Kindle and Smashwords, where it has basically sat.
I still know nothing about marketing, but I'm definitely learning and trying new things to generate sales.

Hey Rebekah! I'm knee deep in marketing my book right now. I'd be happy to talk shop with you if you'd like.

My name is Celia Kennedy and I live in Washington State, so hello from the Evergreen State, Jill.
Like many of you, I have recently published my first book, called Charlottes Restrained (available in Kindle format on Amazon). I have two other books partially written, but became side tracked by an idea in September and am now finishing up the first draft. Tentative title is Venus Rising.
I am a Writer/Landscape Architect/Architect/Stay at Home Mom. However, if I were going to do something else, I would start a business that would help link women who need inspiration/motivation with women who are working in a profession they are passionate about. I feel very strongly about women being more than Damsels in Distress. (Though I do like an old fashioned romance novel from time to time!).
I write a blog, http://womanreinventsself.blogspot.com. I followed Ann Lamotts suggestions in Bird by Bird.
I look forward to hearing more from you all, reading your work, and seeing where this takes us all. Good luck!!
Celia

Celia, LOVE your idea of a "business" to link women with mentors. In my debut novel, my heroine also feels strongly about helping high school kids connect with mentors and finding their passion!

I am NOT a writer, but I am a voracious reader and I rate/review every book I read, posting that info here on Goodreads and also on Shelfari.
I grew up in Texas but came to Milwaukee at the age of 17 to attend Marquette University. I fell in love with winter that first season and I've lived in Wisconsin ever since.
Married, no kids, no pets. Work in healthcare administration (looking forward to retirement in about 3 years). When I'm not reading I enjoy gardening, travel, music, and attending theater (especially musical theater - from opera to revues).
Just getting oriented here, but hope there are some good discussions of books and characters.

Welcome, Tessa and Belle!
Dear Belle, not to worry. We want to know who you are, and being an author is obviously part of that! :-)
Thanks for joining the group!

Nonetheless, I am a voracious reader and discovered Darlene on GR, which resulted in her invite to join this group. I am a proud supporter of new authors and when I discover a well-written and engaging debut novel, I do my best to post reviews and recommend. Any genre is worth my time; however, lately, I've been on a romantic suspense kick.. I will watch this link for links to new books written by you all...
Nice to meet each of you....(BTW... I live in Southern California....my name is a nickname and not a reference to my age...LOL!)

Note|. You should write a story with this theme, Belle. With your experience and nursing background, I would expect to be rich with true emotion...jus saying..

I have often thought about writing a story but not sure exactly where to go with it. Might end up a character at some point. Horrible, horrible disease, not the happily demented kind that gets portrayed.

My mother is in the end stages of Alzheimer's .. though hers is not early onset (she is in her late 80s).

And, I'm so sorry your mother suffers from this disease, BC. Horrible horrible horrible disease...

hope you enter and win. follow the link to my FB author page

Let me start off by saying I grew up in Washington state on a farm with seven siblings. I love the North West area and enjoy writing about its great characteristics and friendly people. However, I'm currently living in Texas.
I self published my first book, Finding Pride, on October 20th 2012. Book two, Discovering Pride, was released on January 31st 2013.
Here are my links to my site, blog, FB, & twitter. Hopefully this is the right place to put these. I would love to follow everyone else.
Thanks,
Jill
