Grace A (20grace24) | 7 comments Who is he? How is he one of the fae? How did he become Kvothe's student? etc.

Chris (chris300) | 388 comments Mod
Bastas, Son of Remmen, Prince of Twilight and the Telwyth Mael.

How is he one of the Fae is a bit of a redundant question. How is Kvothe one of the humans.

No idea how he became K's student.

Samuel (sajcripp) | 30 comments I don't know that much about Bast, but I would like to know a lot more. The Lightening Tree, a short story about Bast published in Rogues, offered little more than a look into his everyday life working and studying with Reshi. I am hoping we find out more in The Doors of Stone. We might even get a short novella like Auri did, The Slow Regard of Silent Things. A fantastic book, by the way, and fully deserving of all the criticism that's been tacked on.

Grace A (20grace24) | 7 comments The Lightning Tree was interesting, and fun, but mysterious...

Andrea (andreakristina) | 5 comments Well, we actually don't know much about Bast, but he's Fae. I don't think a Fae just ends up beeing your friend. So i can imagine that Kvothe actually helped Bast or saved his ass long time ago. But again, that's just a theory.

Japhia | 66 comments Bast seems extremely emotionally invested in Kvothe. More than I would assume a fae would be. Kvothe spent a lot of time with fleur but I never thought she was particularly emotionally invested in him.

Jessica | 117 comments Isn's there a theory that he's someone Kvothe is looking after? Maybe son maybe not...Not sure how the workings of half human half fae would work and if there is enough evidence to prove either way. But they seem closer than just a simple student and teacher relationship. I mean he's even seen Denna. That's the story I want. How did those paths cross?

message 8: by Aubrey (new)

Aubrey Maybe Bast is a product of Kvothe and Felurian xD

Jessica | 117 comments That's what I have always wondered.

We can only hope at this point. :P

Chad Smith | 10 comments After reading the last chapter in NOTW again, I wonder if Bast could be the antagonist of the story. He found out Kvothes "real" name and was able to control him. Maybe this is why Kvothe kills the king? Kvothe being clever changes his name to be free of Bast but ends up forgetting things necessary to beat/defeat Bast.

Bast wants Chronicler to help him remember who he once was, "I just want my Reshi back", but doesn't want him to remember his sympathy?

I think it may be possible for Kvothe to be Basts favorite toy and is mad he can't play anymore.

Just a thought.

message 12: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 117 comments I'm on board with that 100%. I just don't trust Bast. For a while I thought he connected to the Chandrian in some shape it form. But this theory makes more sense.

I also agree with him wanting Reshi back..,But not all if him? He doesn't want Chrinicler to focus on the bad. Which is odd because sympathy makes one human. It's like he's trying to hide something or keep something just out of reach. Didn't he also keep him from focusing on anything involving his hands? When the demon attacks the inn Kvothe can't use sympathy to kill it. Bast tells Chronicler not to talk about it. That and his not playing the lute. Those combined are very fishy to me. It screams of something sinister at work to me.

Jessica | 117 comments So I had a new thought pop in my head as I was finishing my reread of WMF.

Could it be possible Kvothe is purposely not fighting/doing magic well? Maybe he just doesn't want to?

message 14: by Chad (new)

Chad Smith | 10 comments Yeah, I just finished WMF again and have thought twice about my idea of Bast's intentions. When they were talking about the Cthaeh Bast was genuinely concerned and scared for Kvothe.

Layla ✷ Praise the sun ✷ | 4 comments I am not yet sure who he is but I don't trust him :D

Lee Ann | 3 comments How about Bast's Name for Kvothe...I think it says a lot:
It surely describes him...

Below is a brief analysis only of the first name of Reshi.

•The name Reshi gives you a strongly independent and highly creative nature, with drive and ambition to have experiences and accomplish things out of the ordinary.

• You can work intently at whatever is new and holds your interest at the moment, but your interest wanes quickly when drudgery and monotony set in.

• Obstacles to your progress or restrictions on your freedom to act create a sense of frustration which may cause you to feel resentful and even rebellious.

• You can then become intolerant of others, and caustic and belittling in your expression, thereby imposing stress on your personal relationships.

• Although you have a clever, quick, capable mind, your progress in life is restricted by instability in your affairs and misunderstandings with people.

• Your impulsive nature can lead to actions which you later regret taking, or to accidents.

• Relaxation is elusive, and depletion due to nervous tension can develop to the point where you become subject to moods of depression and morbid thoughts.

• Nervous tension centres in the solar plexus, with nervous indigestion and stomach ulcers a possible result.

Lee Ann | 3 comments I believe everything in this story will hinge on names...and I believe a lot is hidden in the names of things.
