The story begins five years in the past. Was it helpful to have their backstory presented in detail before proceeding with the present-day story?

Yes, absolutely,. In this kind of story, references or flashbacks would not have had such an authentic feel as the way the book begins.

I thought it was, too. The prologue not only gave us the background on the romance but really gave us lots of insights about Honor and Seth.

I like the details in the backstory. It set up not only their relationship but who Seth and Honor are and what the characters are like as well. I liked them both immediately and rooted for them from the get go. Reece certainly set up the investment we as readers have in the characters and their romance.
