Riley shrugged. "Walden and I have never been very close, so it doesn't bother me much. I won't miss him as much as Liam, definitely."

Riley grinned. "Same with me and your sisters. Liam's the oldest, already married. Then Walden, then Fredrick." She sighed. "It'll be really sad with Fred gets married. I'll be the only one left."

Riley grinned as they entered the kitchen. "Yep. You're lucky." Daina, the cook, gave them some hot chocolate, and they moved into the cafeteria to drink it.

"At least you have sisters," Riley pointed out. "You haven't been surrounded by boys all your life." And treated like one.

He absently flicked through the pages of the last book he'd read. Highly illustrated pages featuring things from fairies and ogres to dogs and stags sucked him in. But he still felt like he was missing something.
He grit his teeth and set the book down with a thump. Frowning, he searched for Stephan.
He passed by his brother a few times without noticing. When he did notice, he doubled back and tapped Stephan's shoulder. "So...I think I'm done here for now. What do you want to do next?"

"That'd be great," Lucas said.
Anything to get his mind of the frustration. Or he'd have to hit something soon...

"All right." Stephan tucked the book in his bag for later- he'd already checked it out- and headed for the door. He paused outside. "Anywhere particular you'd like to see first?"

Lucas tossed his hands out to the side and shouted. "I don't know! I just got here--" He cut himself off and scuffed the ground with his boot. A few pieces of chipped pavement skipped along the ground.
"Sorry," he mumbled. "Anywhere's fine." He shifted his pack and focused on his toes instead of Stephan.

((@Merenwen: The Way of the Pen, which I started for Camp NaNo this year.))
Stephan sighed quietly. "Come on, then." He started off down the path, through a small grove of trees- among which he unconsciously slowed his pace- and out again. He gestured towards a large building, nearly as big as the main hall. "That's the training building. It should be unlocked, if you want to take a look inside."

[BTW, I'm making the description up...not sure if it's accurate or not. :P]
"Whoa." Lucas stared at the place. It wasn't particularly elaborate, but the white posts on the four corners of the building were. Spirals shaped into figures and forms that paid tribute to all four elements glowed in the afternoon light.
The walls were slightly inset, and had windows that were taller than the doors. He rushed up and peered through the nearest pane. He didn't see anyone inside.
Chairs were pressed against the window on his side. A large water cooler with small cups was nearby.
And on the other walls were doors. The one immediately across from him was black and rimmed in red. There were others, all colored for each element, but he didn't pay attention to those.
"I'm going to check it out." Lucas grinned and rushed inside.

((Sounds pretty awesome to me. :) Also, forgive me if I'm misinterpreting your post.))
Stephan nodded. "Go ahead." He followed Lucas inside, but lingered outside the black and red door. Just as members of one house weren't supposed to enter the other houses, so they also weren't supposed to enter the other houses' training rooms. The door to his own house's training room lay off to the right, heavy brown wood framed in green.

[Nope, sounds good. :)]
Lucas scoured the black-walled room. It was fairly large, with room enough for at least ten students to stand side by side in all directions.
On the right was a fire pit that glowed with half-awake embers. Boxes lined most of the left wall.
Lucas opened one. Small vials filled with black powder. He opened another one, and found sets of flint and steel.
In the two farthest corners of the room, the walls were glass. Inside the glass was...
"Lava," he whispered. Louder, he said, "Stephan, there's lava!"
There was another door, between the "pillars" of lava. He touched the door. Before he even realized that he'd done it, he jerked his hand back and stuck most of his fingers in his mouth. It was HOT.

Stephan, despite himself, peered through the door to watch as Lucas explored. He told himself it was just to make sure his brother was all right, that it had nothing to do with his curiosity. "You all right?" he called, seeing Lucas jerk back from the far door.

Still grinning, he turned to Stephan. "There's lava back here!"
He wasn't sure why he was so happy about it, but he was.
A maniacal urge to laugh burst in his chest. Then it coupled with a vague, piercing pain that slowly traveled up his arm.
He decided to yell. A bit of the maniacal-ness from the earlier urge made its way into his shout of, "YOW!"
He ran out of the room and to the water cooler. Lucas stuck his right hand out. His left hand clutched his right wrist.
Using his foot, he pressed the button that let out cold water.
As the water struck his hand, he mumbled, "Ow-ow-ow, owow."

His smile disappeared at Lucas's yell and dash to the water cooler. He followed his brother and peered at the burned hand. "You'll be all right." Touching the door, it seemed, had been the equivalent of touching a hot stove.

He shook his hand, slowly at first, then quickly when it didn't hurt too badly.
Water splattered on the ground. He didn't seem to notice--until he turned and slipped.
He hit the ground with a muffled thump. "So," he wheezed. "What's your training room like?"
Lucas got to his feet, removed his outer tunic and began mopping up the mess.
Suddenly, he asked, "Are we going to be separated most of the time?" The tone in his voice made it obvious that he didn't like that idea.

Like the door, the room beyond was filled with shades of brown and green. To the left was a wide planter filled with black soil. A few plants sprouted and grew up the wooden wall, but mostly it seemed to be waiting. The opposite wall was stone, and lumps of rock and clay were arranged on shelves and on the floor near it. Directly across from the door was a second door, with windows on either side, which seemed to open onto a forest.
((@Merenwen: Esme and North are in the Pyre lounge, so if Lucas and Stephan split up, Lucas could go in there. ;) ))

[Maybe this will work...]
Lucas examined the room and nodded. "Neat." He wasn't particularly fond of plants (lots of excursions in poison ivy and the like), but Stephan liked them.
After talking with Stephan about home, his excitement about lava, his doubts about making many friends, and a few other things, he gave his brother a hug and returned to the Pyre house.
