Jo (surreyreader) | 3 comments I despair of the Audible Android app. I love Audible, but LOATHE this app and really wish Audible would either allow 3rd party players or fix the damned thing.

I cannot fathom how there can be a number of free audio book players in the app store that function perfectly fine (Smart Audio Book Player is one) and Audible cannot manage to get their app to work reliably. It force closes all the time, eats battery, stutters horribly on a Bluetooth headset, and for extra fun, sometimes kicks my phone into a reboot.

Any sign of fixes any time soon?

Daphne (daphnesm) | 55 comments I think Audible should consider hiring whoever made the amazing Smart Audio Book Player to redesign their audible player. That program is absolutely amazing in every way.

Jessica (jessical1961) | 519 comments While I have not used the app on an Android phone, I use it for hours on a daily basis on my Android tablet and have almost no trouble out of it.

My only complaint is that it tends to stutter when another app like Facebook or Twitter shows an update like "so and so just followed you." On rare occassions the update will cause playback to stop and I will have to touch the Play icon to resume where it left off. Overall, though, I give 4.5 stars out of 5!

Louise | 48 comments I have the app on my Samsung Galaxy Android phone, and it functions perfectly - I pauses when someone calls me and then resumes, and I've never experienced the problems you describe - are you having problems with other apps?

Kristie | 2212 comments I've never had a problem, not one, with the Audible app on either my old Galaxy SII or my current Galaxy S5, and I have been using it pretty much daily for over 2 years. Sounds like the issue is not universal. I do hear the occasional stutter, but I find if I keep the phone on the side of my headphones' bluetooth receiver it's less likely to happen.

That said, I do wish they'd adopt some of the features of the Smart AudioBook app (like having the book automatically back up 30 seconds when you hit play and the more detailed playback speed options).

Oh my I would be driven batty if I had these problems! I have the app on iPhone and other than after it first came out many years ago I've hot had any issues (thankfully) because I use it for hours and hours day and night! Can w say ADDICTION? At the very start of it I had to reinstall it maybe 3x but last few yrs have been flawless I however use the iPhone version and blue tooth lg 750's earphones.. I have a choice of speeds 1 slower speed but 1/4 speed increments up to 3x. I love the faster speeds as some narrator read painfully slowly plus I can get thru the insane amount of books I have faster when needed but really love it when there is an exciting part happening and I can't find out fast enough what I need to know! LOL I have more books than I could listen to in my lifetime! (Damn u audible sales!)
Have you written to audible maybe they have an answer for you? They are excellent with customer service
Surely by this point u have deleted and reinstalled the app several times to no avail? It MAY be the phone/device you're using? So sad for you I'd be up the wall if I had issues! You show great patience! Wish u luck in future with it!!!

Jo (surreyreader) | 3 comments Batty indeed. It seems it is just me, but not sure why all other audio apps work absolutely fine; I only have an issue with the Audible app.

Did u reach out to there customer service? They have some of the best CS around! Really nice super helpful people over at audible (I've found them to be) they may have an idea for you and if not maybe there ARE others who have has the same issues you have and when audible gets wind of issues customers are having they send out FIXES they updates and perhaps give that a try if you haven't already. I would it's worth getting that resolved because I LOVE my audible app. You will too...if they can solve the problems that is! Keep us informed if you do find out why it isn't working right for you and if you can solve it. Would love to find out if you get it fixed!
Enjoy the day!! HAPPY READING!!!

I rarely use other audio apps... But that seems like a useful thing hadn't thought of that as a feature on the app. As I normally back it up more than that when I start up again if enough time has past by between listens... Audible has for many many of the apps features added new things from customers asking for something. If they can get enough wanting that feature I'm positive they will add it in a future update. Send them an email requesting it. I'll request as well, if enough ask for it you most likely will see it in future update!!

I did send them an email asking for these features over a year ago. They said thanks for the suggestion, but haven't added them.

I would not like that feature. I get interrupted frequently while listening to audio books. If the player automatically rewinds thirty seconds every time I hit Play, I am going to waste a lot of time relisteng to material I just finished listening to. If I want to rewind thirty seconds all I have to do is touch a button to do it. It is much more convenient to me the way it is now.

Yeah well it's obvious then that not many have want d an auto back on start up and I only have to tap the button back as well and like I said I only do it when there was a lot of time past between shutting off and restarting. Also it's something I do because I am often listening to several books at one time but I can see where this might not be a wanted as an AUTO feature as Jeffrey pointed out it would waste a lot of time hot many going over same bits again and again in th frequent stops but it COULD be an option to turn on for those who would want to have it auto. That way it's a win win for all. Audible has many fine features and it's improving all the time. It still has to be your divices that may be the cause as my daughter uses the app on her S5 and well as a niece I asked her if she has had any of the issues with her S5 she says no problems have occurred with use. This may be a mystery that just has no answer! Maybe you have gotten water in your phone you don't know about or a drop perhaps? We may never know why.

To be clear, if you just pause on Smart Audiobook for a short bit of time, it doesn't back up 30 seconds when you hit play again. It just backs up a few seconds. It would definitely be annoying if it backed up 30 seconds every time you paused for a few seconds. If you quit listening for awhile, then it goes back 30 seconds. I like the feature because I feel like when I pause with Audible I seem to miss a few words when I play again, like it almost skips forward a bit. But yes, if it could be an option for people that want it, that would be great.

Me neither! I use it several times per day (with bluetooth) and it works great on my Motorola.

Jessica (jessical1961) | 519 comments I have not a minutes trouble out of it on my android tablet either. I am guessing Jo needs to contact audible technical support and let them know the details of his/her phone and what the app is doing on it. It is probably an issue with the phone and not the app. The app may need to be updated so that it works with the quirks of the phone it is being used on.

Camille | 1 comments I put my Audible books on my Sansa Clip which I love. I can listen without using phone battery life. I do need to use my laptop to transfer them but I don't have any issues.

Simon Wetz | 1 comments Has anyone found a fix for when you get a new phone and load the Audible app every thing is unfinished and I cant get it to show the details off the old phone. Audible support were sympathetic but said that this is just the way that it is but I seriously cant believe that. Any one found a work around for this really annoying time wasting issue?

Yes, you would think that syncs with your account. I can only sort of get around tracking what I've finished by always rating a book I've finished. That was I can check.

It is idiotically painful though, this total oversight, when you are talking having a thousand books in your library.
