G.G. (ggatcheson) | 2491 comments If you are talking about Listopia, I believe an author cannot enter his or her own book(s) anymore.

G.T. Trickle (goodreadscomgttrickle) | 31 comments I added my new novel in the section where you're supposed to. (I think.) When I sign into GR my author picture has now disappeared from the upper right corner and the new novel cover is in it's place. Where did I go wrong and how can I fix this? Both of my novels appear on the author profile page. I couldn't find anything to help with this issue when I click on edit author profile. In preview of this post I do see the pic is there and not the new cover.

message 153: by Christina (new)

Christina McMullen (cmcmullen) Hm, I clicked on your profile and your picture comes up, GT. You may have added the cover as a secondary author picture by accident. I think that under your profile you can manage your photos and delete one. That's what I had to do to change mine to a current picture.

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 790 comments Has anyone ever received the "please verify your account" and you click on send verification to my email and it takes forever to arrive?

It happened to me last year, it took like 2 months before I finally got the verification e-mail. It happened to me again in January but luckily I got the e-mail right away.

message 155: by Christina (new)

Christina McMullen (cmcmullen) That sounds suspicious, Justin. Is it from Goodreads?

message 156: by Justin (new)

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 790 comments Yeah, it's on the settings page

message 157: by Christina (new)

Christina McMullen (cmcmullen) Weird! No, I'd never seen that. I thought for a minute it was an email and worried it was a phishing scam.

message 158: by Nikole (new)

Nikole Bloom (nikole_bloom) | 6 comments Hello, everyone! Has anyone ever had a private message disappear? This happened to me this afternoon. It was obviously a spam message as I received the same message through my website and then again in my author email. Just found it odd that one minute it was there and the next...POOF be gone. If GR deletes all spam that quickly maybe I should enlist them for all of my email accounts ;)

message 159: by Christina (new)

Christina McMullen (cmcmullen) Hi Nikole. If enough people report the account and Goodreads deletes it, then yes, every post, rating, review, comment, and PM that account made will disappear.

Luciana Correa (lucorreaauthor) | 24 comments I have Kindle and physical book treated as two different works. I'm running a giveaway and if I get confused, wonder the others X0
Can you help me?

Thanks, Christina. That makes sense, I was looking for it the second time to report it. I guess others beat me to it.

Hi Luciana,
You can combine editions on your book's page. Under the details it will have a link that says 'combine editions.' As for folks fetting confused, no, you can only give away a physical book, so anyone entering the giveaway will expect one to be mailed if they win.

message 163: by Marie Silk (last edited Mar 31, 2016 10:09PM) (new)

Marie Silk | 611 comments I have two questions.

1. I am having difficulty with starting a giveaway. I have entered my info a bunch of times, trying either of the isbns without dashes like it says, but when I try to "save" at the bottom, it keeps telling me "invalid book id". It is set on the isbn not book id for the text box so I don't understand why it's not taking my entry.

2. edit: Nevermind, finally figured this one out :D

As for the friend request, I wouldn't; but that's just me.

If I felt harassed in any way, I wouldn't think twice about reporting it. You should feel comfortable here.

Report them, Monica. pluxedo@gmail.com is the one that has been doing this to several other writers on the site.

Hello Amanda, I just added my new book "Social Security: Maximize Your Benefits (2nd Edition)" manually to Goodreads. The cover of the book does not appear, but it is linked to Amazon (where the book cover is posted). Can you help?
Sincerely,
Kathleen

I did not upload the cover. I thought the cover would come from Amazon.

G.G. (ggatcheson) | 2491 comments Nope, you have to upload it on Goodreads. It should be an easy fix. :)

Maria Kachmar (mariaka) | 1 comments Hi All,

I'm very happy to have discovered Goodreads last week. :) I'm still finding my way around this site and author page functions. I published a non-fiction book on April 8, but it is not in the list of New Releases for April, and I haven't been able to add it to any lists. Can anybody help me with this? Thank you. :-)
Maria

Susan Morton | 110 comments Ann said to send her a PM regarding beta reading, but I can't get my PM to work. What do I have to put in the "to" line to send a PM? (I know it's more than her name, because that doesn't work, but I don't know what it would be?)

message 177: by [deleted user] (last edited Apr 29, 2016 01:07PM) (new)

Just click on her name and to the right of the "Follow Author" button you'll see a small downward-pointing arrow. Click on that and it'll give you a menu.

message 178: by Julie (new)

Julie Watson (bornformidwife) Hi, I just have a question about the Goodreads site. It might have been asked. Not sure. I have always found the Goodreads site tricky to navigate but have tried to make the most of it as a reader and an author. I have just discovered lists and listopia and was wondering how are these used and how can I get my book on these lists? Could anyone please enlighten me here. I felt my book might have more exposure if on these lists. Any other help would be appreciated :)
Thanks Julie

Rachael Eyre (rachaeleyre) | 194 comments Unfortunately you can't add your own book(s) to a Listopia list - you have to wait for someone else to list you. So hang on in there! Of my books, The Governess features in a list about romantic governess heroines (?!), while Love and Robotics appears in one for M-M novels the reader has read this year. They will show up on your book's page once someone has made the list.

Randall S. Davis (randalls) | 43 comments Can someone tell me how to update a cover on my author page.
Thanks to anyone who can guide me in the right direction.

message 181: by [deleted user] (new)

If you're talking about a book cover, it requires that you create another edition with the new cover. Goodreads requires a separate edition for each different book cover.

message 182: by Randall (new)

Randall S. Davis (randalls) | 43 comments I have done that. The new edition has a new cover and is shown on every book outlet with the new cover, except for Goodreads.

Thank you Rachael. I do think the Goodreads site is excellent but still finding parts I have not navigated before. I think the groups are good to connect with others. Just need more time in my day :)

Hi Amanda,

Fairly new, so sorry I can't help. But, I have a question about the author area. My book and info is on here somewhere, but I'm not sure it's in the right place. Also, how does one put their blog on here? Sorry, but I'm floundering around here it seems. Thanks so much for any help.

Normally you could convert your profile into an author profile and then just add your book, but since it has been added under a separate profile, it won't be quite so easy. You should be able to convert your own profile into an author profile, then you may have to contact a Goodreads librarian to help you move the book into the proper profile. To change to an author profile, just click the link way at the bottom of the page that says "author program" and follow the steps.

Once you have the author page set up, follow the directions here to start your blog.

Gerry (gerrydowndoggmailcom) | 62 comments Thank you for your information on how to get a blog to my author page. I have just started a blog and am so new at it that I need all the help I can get.

message 187: by Rose (new)

Rose Romano Hi!

I'd like to put a review of a book on goodreads. I can see how to do it if there isn't a review already. But when there is one, all I can see is how to comment.

Can I leave a second review, under the first one, instead of just a comment?

I'd like my review to show as soon as someone clicks without having to go further and click on comment.

Thanks!

message 188: by G.G. (new)

G.G. (ggatcheson) | 2491 comments To review a book, just click under the book and put it READ, the page for reviewing should appear.

RosaBeatrice,

G.G. is right. Another way to do it, just for the heck of it, is right under the picture of the cover you should see five faint gray stars and a message saying, "rate this book". Once you have rated it, a link will open you can click on to leave a review.

Alfred Eyrie | 42 comments Randall wrote: "I have done that. The new edition has a new cover and is shown on every book outlet with the new cover, except for Goodreads."

Has anybody answered this question yet? I'm having the same problem with one of my book covers. I posted an "advanced copy" cover version for a few people to read, but now that I have the real cover (that I'm proud of), Goodreads still shows the old cover.

message 194: by E.A. (new)

E.A. Turley (eaturley) | 70 comments Join the Goodreads Librarians group too and post a thread asking them to do it for you. They are the only ones who can change the covers, merge/ add another edition etc for you. They'll tell you exactly what you need to do/upload for them to do it. :)

message 195: by Randall (new)

Randall S. Davis (randalls) | 43 comments I messaged a librarian who added a link to the new cover but she
would not erase the old cover. If you want to see the new cover you have to click and be transferred over. I'm not sure what I have to do to eliminate the old cover for good.

message 196: by [deleted user] (new)

You can't eliminate the old cover, since it's a valid edition of your book. But you can click on the edition with the new cover and set it as the primary edition.

message 197: by Randall (new)

Randall S. Davis (randalls) | 43 comments Ken,
I'm not familiar enough with Goodreads so can you give me a step by step on how to do this?

Thanks1

message 198: by [deleted user] (last edited May 31, 2016 02:03PM) (new)

Pull up the book with the new cover, click on "edit details." On the right side of the editing screen you'll see your book cover. Scroll down and you'll see these options:

"Disable tooltips
Set this book as the primary edition for this work
Refresh book rating stats"

Click to set the book as the primary edition, and that should cause the correct cover to come up whenever you pull up the book.

Sam (Rescue Dog Mom, Writer, Hugger) (sammydogs) | 973 comments Hi Ken, Your message #80 cracked me up. You and Dwayne never fail to make me laugh... and are also gracious to help me. Thank you both.

When I publish my novel (thinking positive here), I will do so using a pen name, as it is difficult to spell and impossible to pronounce. Is this going to cause a problem when I turn my personal profile into an author profile? Is there anything special I will have to do? Thank you.

message 200: by [deleted user] (new)

I can't advise you on that one, since I've never used a pen name, but you can probably find the answer in one of the Goodreads Help topics.
