M.A. Comley (melcom) For those authors who haven't received the email yet I'm going to copy and past it below. You need to alter your bank details in order to receive EFT royalty payments from Amazon US now.

You are receiving this e-mail because Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) has new payment options available in Europe. You can update your account starting today for royalty payments to be made in April, 2013. If you’d like to keep your current preferences, no action is needed on your part.

Now your account preferences can be set to receive royalty payments across all marketplaces in Euros and by Direct Deposit for bank accounts located in most European countries. Your information can be updated at any time. Visit your KDP Account Page.

At last!!!

message 4: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) yeah, that means I will personally be 36 euros a month better off.

Well I would be if I could change my damn information! It's coming up an error about my phone number of all things, er... I didn't alter that at all! Ho hum!

message 5: by Karen (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Great news!
costs me six pound a time to cash 'em at the HSBC

message 6: by Sara (new)

Sara Boyd (saraboydauthor) | 1211 comments I'll check my email. Yes, I didn't like the idea of a check.

message 7: by Sara (new)

Sara Boyd (saraboydauthor) | 1211 comments Thanks M.A. I didn't receive the email but went into my account and changed my payment option!

message 8: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) Congrats if you've managed to change your info, I still haven't succeeded in doing it yet! Grr...

message 9: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) Okay, I just managed it. If you have problems try making the alterations using Google Chrome! Phew!

message 10: by Michael (new)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments I got the same problem with my phone number as well - for some reason it didn't like the spaces between the numbers.

message 11: by Sara (new)

Sara Boyd (saraboydauthor) | 1211 comments It never even asked for my phone number...

message 12: by Geoffrey (new)

Geoffrey Wakeling | 111 comments I was SO thankful to see this information this morning. Thank goodness for no more cheques! :D

message 13: by Rosen (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments Yippee! This will save me a fortune in bank charges!

message 14: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) yeah sorry I forgot to say that I deleted the space too, Michael!

I'm going to put my 36 euros aside in a little jar and treat myself now and again! lol

Shaun (shaunjeffrey) | 2467 comments Excellent.

message 16: by Darren (new)

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments My bank said that the last couple of Amazon cheques would take 6 weeks to sort out, so this is timely to say the very least.

Gosh. You sounded just like Mr Burns.

message 18: by Michael (new)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments Which bank is that, Darren?

With Natwest I've never been waiting more than about 5 working days.

message 19: by Karen (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments HSBC were about 5 days too.

Thanks a lot for that. I've never had a cent yet from anywhere other than the UK but you never know ;-)

message 21: by Natasha (new)

Natasha Holme (natashaholme) | 832 comments Halleluiah. Done. Thanks so much, M.A. I hadn't received the email either.

Strange that you have to change your settings for each region individually, that there's no blanket change option. And I wonder why they left 'cheque' as the default? Who could possibly want that?

You haven't! :-(

message 23: by Katie (new)

Katie Stewart (katiewstewart) | 817 comments And yet again the Aussies are left in the cold, forced to carry on paying the bank fees and waiting and hoping for a cheque each month...if they've managed to reach the magic figure of 100 whatevers.

What did we do wrong? :(

message 24: by Beverley (new)

Beverley Carter | 186 comments Wow - thanks for that! I don't think I received the email either but it has let me change the dot com to electronic transfer, so yippee!

Thanks ever so much! :)

message 25: by Karen (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Am still trying to change mine... keeps telling me it's 'saving the information' and to wait, but nothing happens. Been trying for a couple of hours now. It did the same a few days ago & I gave up. Ho hum. Will try again another day.

message 26: by A.L. (new)

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 1608 comments Yay. Hopefully they will bring that in for the Aussies too. Don't see why not if they can pay in Ruppees, Yen, pounds and USdollars.

Send them an email. Sometimes is a glitch they can fix from their side and when you go in again you can change it.

What web browser are you using? I find that it doesn't like Chrome for some reason, and always use IE.

Also, make sure the field with your phone number doesn't have any spaces in it.

message 29: by Karen (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Thanks for suggestions
Am using IE.
Maybe it's the time of day - they're prob busiest about now.
Will give it a go in the morning, if I remember!
Then will send them an email.

message 30: by Anne (new)

Anne Charnock (annecharnock) | 14 comments This is great news. And I've changed by account.
It's odd that so many authors, me included, did not receive the email and depended on online communities to find out.
Will CreateSpace do the same for print-on-demand customers?

message 31: by A.L. (new)

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 1608 comments Not sure I only have 3 sales anyway and they were all to me:) It is cheaper and quicker for me to buy the book on Amazon than createspace, lol.

message 32: by Natasha (new)

Natasha Holme (natashaholme) | 832 comments Anne wrote: "It's odd that so many authors, me included, did not receive the email..."

M.A, I'm wondering whether this was a dedicated email from Amazon about EFT royalty payments, or whether the information was hidden in a newsletter that most of us might have skimmed or deleted?

message 33: by A.L. (new)

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 1608 comments I think it was an email. Someone posted it on the forum there.

message 34: by Karen (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Yay, got my addy & EFT options updated! I emailed KDP and they said to try deleting cookies and if that didn't work, to install Mozilla Firefox - and that sorted it straight away.

message 35: by Sara (new)

Sara Boyd (saraboydauthor) | 1211 comments So they like Mozilla...

Thank you for letting us all know this! I've updated mine, yahooo! I might even get a bit of cash.

Cheers

message 37: by Natasha (new)

Natasha Holme (natashaholme) | 832 comments I just received my notification about this. It was the first item in the Kindle Direct Publishing Newsletter. It could be they stagger sending these out?

message 38: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments I guess if we all did it at once the thing would fall over!

Cheers

MTM

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments Yes, I think they were staggered.

I've still not got my cheque for December sales yet :( (it was well over $100!)

Mwah ha ha hargh! In 3 years I haven't sold enough books in the US to hit the pay out limit!

message 41: by David (new)

David Haynes | 844 comments My calculations revealed that I would sell enough books to make the $100 threshold sometime between October 17th 2037 and August 12th 2071.

Is there anyway to find out how much "backpay" I have waiting to come through? I'm toying with the idea of taking Mrs H to the chippy for a slap up tea but don't want to overspend if I can't cover it with my .com funds transfer.

message 42: by D.M. Andrews (author) (last edited Feb 19, 2013 06:30AM) (new)

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments My books don't sell much in the UK :( I think there's been a few months where I've not hit the threshold.

Edit: Yup, just checked my stats. Currently for February .com sales are outperforming .co.uk sales by over 3:1

I've never understood why it would be different, considering the population and Kindle frequency in the US being so much bigger (and it including India etc.)

In fact I marvel that you can sell more in the UK!

message 43: by David (new)

David Haynes | 844 comments I can never quite get my head around why some books sell better in the US than they do in the UK when they're written by UK authors.

Any ideas?

I'm lucky if I get a handful of sales in the US in a month and by a handful I mean 2

message 44: by D.M. Andrews (author) (last edited Feb 19, 2013 08:03AM) (new)

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments I've a small handful of books on Amazon. I did some research on the sales of one of them (a middle-grade fantasy set in Britain) and the breakdown for 2012 was:

US 1584 sales and 833 borrows
UK 411 sales and 9 borrows
Other (mainly Germany): about 10 sales (no borrows)

And my other books sell more in the US, too. I'm just always perplexed by those UK authors on this forum who have more success in this country. I even know a top-selling author (English but living in Italy) who was doing very well in the UK, but poorly in the US.

Of course, if I were to look at paperback sales I'm sure most would be UK (friends and family!).

message 45: by David (new)

David Haynes | 844 comments I think I looked at your website and saw those figures (with envy!) a few days ago. They're very impressive, so well done!

Is there anything you're doing differently over there than you do in the UK?

message 46: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Like, behaving?

message 47: by David (new)

David Haynes | 844 comments haha! Is Mr Andrews a reprobate of the highest order?

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments Reprobate! Pfft...I don't even know the meaning of the word! ;)

Nope, nothing different that I'm aware of...and I can't see how my books would appeal more to someone in the US than the UK, other than an American perhaps being drawn to English settings - but then lots of other UK authors on here have English/British settings to their stories.

I wouldn't envy me too much, my book sales are my only source of income now (and for the last 11 months)!! :(

message 49: by David (new)

David Haynes | 844 comments Sorry to hear that. I think I'd find that both liberating and stressful in equal measure. Although with my sales figures probably more stressful than anything else!

In which case I wish you the very best of luck!

I'm sad to say my US amazon sales are still apparently in single figures ;-(
Sell very quietly in UK and virtually not at all out of it
