There was nothing better than knowing I still held the ability to make a girl blush. I don't know if it's my pride saying this, or simply happy because I wasn't that bad of a guy. I know I'm not the ugliest guy on the planet, but I'm most definitely not the best looking one either and ever since Rosie's come along, I can't help but feel as if I've grown too old to make girls blush. Mentally, that is. I think I'd die if I found a wrinkle before the age of forty. The shy smile she seemed to give me made me know that paying for her ice cream was worth it. If me calling her pretty gave me that smile, I think I have to start saying it more often. If we were to meet again, that is. I can't just assume that she'd be back around. “Don't mention it.” Was my reply to her thank you, giving her a friendly smile before the man gave me my change and I stuck it in my wallet, murmuring a small thank you to the man. We soon got our ice cream and I took mine and Rosie's, then looked down at my daughter, “Alright, here are the rules, Rosie.” I told her, my voice holding a fake authoritative tone, “Don't get any on your clothes, alright? Otherwise you're doing your own laundry.” I told her before handing her the cone, not bothering to reply to me as her attention focused solemnly on the ice cream. I chuckle and shake my head before looking at Ally, “So...how's the University? Did you start yet?” Simple conversation...playing it safe, I guess.

I went ahead and gave a thankful nod to the ice cream guy before taking my ice cream. Before tasting, I glanced over to the now kneeling down Teagan so he was Rosie's height somewhat. I had a rather amused smile tugging on the corners of my lips as he started speaking. But I somehow managed to suppress a laugh when I came up with a small image of Rosie trying to pull out her clothes from the dryer or washer. I could tell she hadn't had any intention on listening to what he was really saying to her which made a small laugh harder to suppress. Her eyes wide on the ice cream as she held it in her small tender hands, I heard Teagan's voice bring me out of my thoughts and his head turned towards me with a question at hand. "Hm? Oh, I uh, I haven't had any classes yet, but I'm pretty excited to start." I explained lightly to him before thinking of my own question I wasn't sure was out of line or not. "A-Are you in school?"

TeaganI couldn't help but look around the park and notice the little things. Like the way the bird up in the tree to my right seems to be watching the three of us, or how the group of boys that had been tossing a football around are now getting ready to leave, how the old couple whom had been feeding the birds now stared at each other, speaking about something I'll never know about. And then there was the three of us. Me. Rosie. Ally. I wondered if she was embarrassed about the fact the most people around her would think that Rosie's her daughter. Or maybe they could be sisters. Maybe people thought we were all siblings. But Ally and I looked nothing alike, I don't think we could ever come off as siblings, but who knew? She answers my question and I smile and nod, kind of envious of the fact that she got to go to University. As for me, I'll be happy to graduate and that's as far as I'm probably going to get, considering the expenses for Rosie right now are pretty high and they will be even higher when she's old enough to go to school and it would be selfish of me to ut my needs before hers. She seems nervous about her question, and I don't want her to think that she's asked something bad - because she hasn't. But I can't help but glance away for a moment before putting on a small smile. "Yeah, I had to miss a year of school. So I'm just doing that again and then I've got my diploma." He told her honestly. "So just a few other months." I wondered if she wondered about who Rosie's mother was. A part of me wanted to tell her that she wasn't there. That she wasn't part of the picture. But the other part of me felt as if it was stupid to randomly claim that.
~Ally~When Teagan answered my question I felt little less nervous about asking it. The only reason I felt strange for asking was because of Rosie and what he probably had to give up for her. It was as if I was already assuming that he had put his own life aside for her. Did it make me a bad person to think that sort of thing? If anything, it made any of my admiration for Teagan greater after hearing his answer. It seemed content with the idea of only graduating, but that was just a guess from the small smile planted across his face. I suddenly had the itch to ask him everything. I wanted to know who the mother was. Where was she? If she wasn’t in the picture, what had happened? How was he taking care of Rosie? I just wanted to know, but I pushed it all aside in fear of becoming an incredibly nosy creep. I started to nod in confirmation to his answer when my phone went off what seemed to be rather loudly in one of those standard phone rings you got for free with the phone. “S-Sorry.” I mumbled before hastily gettting my phone. When I glanced down to caller I.D, I saw Trent, my boyfriend. My thumbs fidgeted only for a moment before I pressed ignore. What was I doing? I glanced back up before giving Teagan an apologetic smile. “Sorry, I always forget to put this thing on vibrate.” I explained before continuing. “So then, only a few more months..” I started before realizing my ice cream cone had started dripping down my hand. Hastily, I took the napkin around the cone to wipe it off. I was sure I just looked like a complete mess to him.

TeaganShe seems to accept my answer as it was and I could feel the slight flood of relief wash over me, making my shoulder which I hadn't noticed had tensed, relax and my smile seemed to loosen up, allowing myself to breathe normally once more. I assessed her current posture and the clothes she wore, glad she wasn't one of those girls who seemed desperate for the attention of boys. She didn't seem superficial, and I was glad for that. To me, she already seemed like a great friend to have. And yes, I say friend. Nothing more, nothing less. I was determined that a girl like her had to be taken by a man that deserved her. Dating for me wasn't really anything I had thought about since I was sixteen, and it still isn't. I don't want to date. I don't have time to date and right now, money's too tight to date. And heaven knows that dating girls these days is incredibly expensive. "Yeah...three more months, to be exact." I specified, not able to hold back the chuckle at the dripping chocolate on her fingers. "Don't worry about it." I told her, about the phone thing. To be honest, I did the same thing sometimes, especially when it was my mom that called. Which reminded me that she didn't work today, and she probably expects me to visit. Over my dead body. But she had left a message, saying that she missed me. No. I wasn't going to bother seeing her. Not after a year and a half of complete rejection.

My went ahead and wiped up the rest of the chocolate drippings on my hand. I tried to keep up a light smile though as Teagan said not to worry about the whole phone thing. He seemed like such a..such an easy going guy while there was me who seemed to have minor frantic moments. Then again, I was sure I was only having these moments because of some of my nerves still apparent around this guy. If I could just get pass them, this would all be easy right? And what was easy exactly? I wasn't sure. If anything, it could have been a reference to a friendship with him, but why did that irritate me a little. To think of his just being friends? I mean, I had a boyfriend blah blah, that whole spiel had been running around my head the whole time. "You know, I can never keep these things under control." I laughed out lightly before licking some of the melted ice cream on my cone while praying I didn't look too weird. I glanced downwards to little Roise who had already gotten chocolate all over her cheeks and some on her nose(please no kill me if I controlled Roise too much D:).

"On days like these, you can't even stop for a breath, you just gotta keep lickin'." I chuckled, feeling amused until I realized that my own ice cream was dripping onto my fingers. "Hey!" I blurted out, quickly cleaning my hand up with the napkin given to me by the man. I laughed to myself, grinning as I licked up the ice cream that had dripped from the cone. I kind of felt as if I looked stupid but one glance down at Rosie and suddenly, I wasn't so bad. I gave a small, playful groan when I saw the chocolate on her clothes. "Rosie! You better be ready, because tonight is your laundry night." I told her, still earning myself nothing but a small smile. God, it was like ice cream possessed her. It was cute, until I realize that it isn't the ice cream she's focusing on, but rather a lady that seems to have stopped in the middle of the trail and staring at us. I found it pretty creepy until I realized who that woman was. And suddenly, I wished it really had been a creepy woman..anything other than this so-called mother. "Crap." Was the first word that escaped lips before I threw my ice cream in the trash and immediately scooped Rosie up, all amusement sardonically drained from my body. "Hey, Ally? Sorry for what's about to happen" I tell her, not really knowing why I said it but oh well, I have bigger things to worry about.
"Teagan!" Came the shrill voice of a woman I used to call mom. "My baby boy!" She cooed, seeing as she's about to kiss my cheek, I quickly dart away one step closer to Ally, myself slightly in front of her, actually, as if it were some sort of defense mechanism. That, and I did not want my mother associating herself with Ally. Why? I have no idea. The frown on my mom's face isn't one I enjoy, because I dread what's going to come out next. "Teagan! Is that any way to treat your mother you've blatantly ignored for over a year?" Great. She's trying to make me feel bad. Well, it's not working, not today. "Yes, I think it is." Came my response, knowing that Rosie's face was taking on a scared expression. I know she knows my serious voice and despite me having only used it once on her, it was the longest hug she had ever given me, saying she was sorry. That had lasted a few hours and then an entire night before she found it enough and that I'd forgiven her. "How rude, young man! No wonder Hailey bailed on you! With that mouth of you-"
"Mom, shut up." I cut in, my jaw locking shut, feeling some heat wash over my body, and not a good kind of heat. Promptly, I turn around and give Ally an apologetic look before setting Rosie down. "Can you pick her up?" I asked quietly, not liking the fact that Rosie was refusing to let go of me, her own cone was long gone, having been dropped. "Rosie, let go." I tell her seriously and she does, but I can hear the start of a tantrum coming this way. But for now, I turn back to my mother who watched the scene with a critique eye.
"Well, well, well...has my boy jumped to another woman already? Giving your daughter off to some girl because you can't take responsibility for you act-"
"I said shut the hell up!" You know that unrequited anger I had within me? Well, I lied. I know why I'm angry. And most of it have to do with the fact that my parents are condescending assholes who would do anything to make me look bad, try and make me regret ever having a baby in the first place. They want me to ask them for help, so I can admit that I need them.
Over my fucking dead body.
"Listen, mom, there's a reason I'm not talking to you and that's the same reason why I'm gonna ask you to walk away from me right now because this heads south." I warn her, but as expected, she keep going. God, does she enjoy making me feel like shit? "Listen to me, Teagan." Now her tone is sharp, deadly, venomous and totally like my mother. "At first, I wanted to track that bit-"
"Don't you even dare swear anywhere near my daughter, mother."
She seemed to think about it for a second, and then, finally gave in and censored her wording.
"When I saw you that night, balling on the front porch when you knew you weren't aloud on it, you told me she was gone. At first, I didn't even know what you meant, had the baby died because you hadn't taken care of her?Or had Hailey broken up with you because she had realized just how much of a disappointment you were. Then you told me she was gone, and you didn't know where, I felt pity for your my grandchild." She tells me, her brown eyes glaring into mine and mine reflect exactly what hers are. "She's not your grandchild." I tell her slowly, "And she never will be." Came my simple reply.
"I'm not done." She snaps and continues, "The only reason I invited you in was because I knew you were too much of a failure to find yourself a place for Rosalina. And you were too stupid to give her up for adoption and you refused to let me take her in as my own, remember the wall you punched when we had that fight?" Her eyes peer over my shoulder and to Rosie and Ally, then her eyes scope in on me, "Have you been hitting your daughter, Teagan?" She asks coldly and my eyes are as wide as they have ever been. Had...had she just asked me that? Did it fucking look like I beat my daughter? I was too dumb struck to do anything, so when my mother brushed past me, I simply stood there, paralyzed. Speechless. Infuriated. God I wanted to cry, so bad.
"So...are you her new 'mommy'? How many has he had, twenty? I wouldn't be surprised, Teagan's always been one to break the rules and not care about the consequences, clearly." Her eyes gestured to Rosie, claiming that she was a consequence of him breaking the rules, hence, having sex that night. Oh god, my hands are shaking, quickly, I shove them in my pocket but that's all I can do. I can't even go and stand up for Ally. God, I'm so fucking pathetic, I can hear Rosie crying now, I don't even know if she started before or not. But now it's a muffled crying and I turn around to see Rose's face buried in Ally's neck, holding her how she holds me when she's like this.

~Ally~I let out another burst of laughter as soon as I saw the ice cream melting down Teagan’s hand. I suddenly felt all of that weird nervous embarrassment leave me. My mouth came around my ice cream cone to lick the rest of the excess off. My eyes soon shifted to the chocolate covered Rosie and the jokingly warning Teagan. I was amazed she was doing as well as she was with the cold treat. There was something about children eating ice cream that was so amusing. Maybe how they tried to put their tiny mouths around the whole thing, but all that did was getting the sticky substance on their noses and cheeks, seeing as the ice cream scoop was always bigger than their head. All the lightness I felt suddenly drifted away though when Teagan got this pale face. My brows furrowed for a moment before following his eyes to the sight of a woman coming towards us. Then he apologized ahead of time for this. I wasn’t even sure what this was going to be, but by the sound of his voice, there was nothing good about the situation. So, all I could do was force a small nod before hearing a rather bitter voice come out of a woman even though her words could have been endearing.
The woman referred to Teagan as his son so I supposed it was his mother. Okay, bad relationship then? Noted. But what made me a bit more worried was when Teagan felt the need to step a little in front of me. I swallowed, unsure what to do. Introduce myself? No, this hadn’t looked like anytime for that. And then, then my eyes widened when she practically started spitting at Teagan with an even more bitter voice. His own voice became a lot less light and much more heavy that it freaked me out a little. And what kind of clue did I have? None. Who was Hailey? Maybe that wasn’t the point, but that was where my mind drifted until I glanced down to see Rosie’s horrified expression. The second I saw him turn to ask if I could hold her, I didn’t hesitate and my cone was being thrown into the nearby trash before I waited for her separate from Teagan. My arms came around her gently as I tried to somehow sooth her with my hand on her back. Tension was in the air and I was sure everything was about to let loose.
My eyes seemed to widen while my mouth caught a sharp breath of air when his mother referred to me as some other woman. Of course, I wasn’t about to snap quite yet, Teagan was letting his own self snap. I would just grasp Rosie gently in my arms to somehow keep her from crying her innocent eyes out. “Shhh...It’s okay.” I whispered for some kind of comfort as my hand rubbed her back softly. I wanted to squeeze my own eyes shut during this whole dispute. But then, then my eyes shot up wider when his mother accused him of hitting Rosie. I was so ready to lose it now. I didn’t care what kind of relationship this woman had with Rosie and Teagan, but I wasn’t afraid to slap this woman if not for Rosie’s head buried into my neck now. Deep breaths. My hand continued to rub her back in slow motions. I wondered if I should just walk away from all of this with her to calm her down somehow, but I thought she’d have a bigger fit if she knew she was far away from her dad. Though, I didn’t have time to think about that because the mother was now throwing her sucky attitude towards me. My eyes looked over to Teagan just once before I looked directly at this woman, whom I had no relations to. I honestly didn’t care what she would think of me. If anything, I cared what Teagan would think after I let loose on this woman. Yeah, that whole call I had been looking forward to wasn’t going to happen after this. I was sure of it. I took a long pause, staring her directly in the eyes. Then held Rosie gently before setting her down. “Rosie.. I want you to go to daddy okay?” I murmured softly before seeing her take off and cling to Teagan’s leg.
“Listen.” I started as I came back up to eye level with this woman. “I’m not a yeller.
