Emily (emkathh) Patricia : Another bad habit of mine is when I read, I sometimes zone out and I have to reread sentences or even a whole chapter again and again until I focus again.

Me too!

message 52: by Megan McDougal (new)

Megan McDougal (mmcdougal87) I'd say my worse habit is either trying to read too many books at once.. OR, when the book comes to a slow part, I tend to skip a few pages, only to realize that I missed something important and have to back track.

message 53: by Rianne (new)

Rianne Heartfilia (glindaaaaaa) It's not a bad reading habbit but I think I just ad it. Although I have like 40 books at home that I've not read yet I still buy new once.

message 54: by Michelle (new)

Michelle I start too many books before I've finished any of them, then a couple months later I'll have to restart at least one of them because I've forgotten what happened.

message 55: by Haley (new)

Haley I have a completely unintentional habit of letting my eyes skip ahead during really crucial moments in a book. I'll be at the end of the book or at the finish of a chapter, and like the final paragraph of the chapter will be on the right page while the point I'm at is on the left one, and my eyes just kind of jump over to the end even though I don't want to know what happens until I get there! And then I start almost reading backwards until I get to the point I was supposed to be at :P

I have the eating habit too, but about not having room to carry the big books, I would totally suggest getting an ereader or an ereading app such as Kobo. It's so great that I can take my reading anywhere and read it in little 15 minute free times I'll have. Also, if you're reading multiple books, or finish one and want to read another immediately, you have all of your ebooks with you :)

though some don't like reading books from a screen, so this is totally just a suggestion :)

Rachel Brooks (RaginCajun2017) | 23 comments Rose wrote: "It's not a bad reading habbit but I think I just ad it. Although I have like 40 books at home that I've not read yet I still buy new once."

I do exactly the same thing, especially if I was reading a series and just bought the next book thinking I'll read it, but then I've lost interest, and I'll buy the next one that catches my eye :)

message 58: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Brooks (RaginCajun2017) | 23 comments Another bad habit of mine is that I'll see how many pages I have left in a chapter to see if I can finish it before whatever I have to do, and then the chapter ends so suddenly or with such suspense that I end up reading the next chapter, and then the next until I'm forced to stop to do what I have to do (or I just ignore what I was supposed to do). This has kept me awake all night thinking "I'll go to sleep after this chapter" lol

message 59: by Megan (new)

Megan (BlackStar4ever) | 34 comments Dog earing pages is probably my worst bad habbit, although i only do this when i dont have a book mark and if its not my book. If it is my book i dont even like to crease the spines let alone bend a page lol :)

message 60: by Megan (new)

Megan (BlackStar4ever) | 34 comments And another one of my bad habbits which i probably do too often is skip BIG paragraphs or boring bits

message 61: by Maya (new)

Maya Sacher (goodreadscommayasacher) | 4 comments Oh, I'm doing the worst thing ever, well maybe it's not that bad... but I have to read the last sentence of the book. It can't really tell you anything, but still...why risk? Oh, and also, I eat chocolate while reading, books and chocolate= not a very good combination...

I used to do that too (read that last sentence/page) but most of my books now are ebooks, so it's too much of a hassle to turn to the last page and back ^_^

message 63: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Brooks (RaginCajun2017) | 23 comments Oh, and ANYTHING I use for a book mark, I end up chewing it or figetting with it until it's not even (or barely) usable as a bookmark anymore :P

(I only really chew it if it's plastic like an old gift card or something, but still a nasty habit)

message 64: by Sonia189 (new)

Sonia189 | 10 comments Bad habits...I also tend to peek the end and also only when the story isn't going the way I thought and suddenly I think tragedy is going to happen and I want to make sure it doesn't and if it does I feel bad for cheating and worse to know I'll feel like crying in the end too.

Another one although I convinced myself it's really not a bad thing, I always finish the books I read, even when they're boring and awful. I keep saying myself that's my way of "honoring" them...but sure I feel like giving up at some point and this leads me to read without interest or skip long descriptive parts...thankfully, this doesn't happen as often because I tend to be very selective...

message 65: by Santino (new)

Santino (tinoprinzi) @Misty when I was at college I did that on a weekly basis. For every book I read I have purchased about three or four! In fact, most of them are still on my to-read list!

message 66: by Sam (new)

Sam (sam222) Patricia wrote: "Another bad habit of mine is when I read, I sometimes zone out and I have to reread sentences or even a whole chapter again and again until I focus again. "

LOL I do that too.

I did that yesterday. I have a 100 and something books on my shelf and I went out and bought 4 more yesterday. I maybe a book hoarder...

hahaha i do that too! it's horrible xD but i try to read an entire chapter and then BHAM cliffhanger, so you have to continue reading the next chapter.

message 69: by Sam (new)

Sam (sam222) I didn't realize I had bad reading habit til reading these, I found I have a few of them.

-Before starting a chapter I have to see how long the chapter is, I don't count the pages but I groin if I think it's a long one or a little happy when it's a short one.

-Patricia brought up zoning out. I do that too, be reading and all of a sudden I realize I have zoned off so I focus back on the book and I have to re-read what I just read so I know what I missed. I laugh at myself sometimes when I do that.

message 70: by Helen (new)

Helen (avidlyavidreader) | 5 comments @Misty - I have that bad habit too! It got so bad I had to impose a self ban on myself until April 1st from buying more books just to read the three tower high stack by my bed.

It has it benefits: I've discovered some great books that made me remember why I wanted to read them in the first place.

message 71: by Alejandra (new)

Alejandra Juárez (isho13) Haya wrote: "Reading reviews or listening to my friend's discussions. Totally spoils the surprise. -.-"

I spoiled a book once by reading the reviews, so now I leave that for when I'm done with the book.

I used to zone out too, but I started forcing myself to focus. Interesting enough, it helped me focusing in my studies too. o_O

message 72: by Michael (new)

Michael (lovechild) | 280 comments The worst for me is lending a book and forgetting or losing touch with the person I lent it to. For the most part if it is paper back not a big deal .. but when I lose those hardcover =( Out there somewhere someone has my first edition hard cover American Gods

message 73: by Kristin (new)

Kristin (kristin218) My worst reading habits are flipping through the pages to the next chapter to see how long or short it is, and taking a five minute break after reading like 15 pages at a time.

message 74: by Kath (last edited Feb 07, 2013 08:17PM) (new)

Kath Castán (kathyacastan) | 8 comments my problem is that I don't sleep and probably neither eat if not was for my mom and that I spoiler to the people because it so stupid that they've read it yet. I trying to control me.

message 75: by Helen (new)

Helen (avidlyavidreader) | 5 comments Another bad reading habit I have is when I really don't like a book I'll read it as fast as possible just to get rid of it.

The more sensible solution would probably be to stop reading it but my stubborn ways sees it as 'I've paid for that book so I'll damn well read it.'

message 76: by Emily (new)

Emily (emilydodd221) I have sooo many bad habits that I do when I'm reading.
1. I'll be reading in bed and it'll be really late, and so I'll say to myself, "one more chapter, at the next chapter go to sleep," and I'll carry on reading and forget so I skip past the beginning of the chapter, and so I keep reading until I'm so tired that I practically fall off the bed lol
2. When I have a bookmark I will put it either under my leg, or in the front or back cover of the book, then when I need it I will check all the places it could be and not come to the place it actually is until last!
3. I don't read in the bath (I'm too scared of dropping it, and also I don't like baths) but I will read anywhere and everywhere, and people tend to get annoyed sometimes.
4. I don't know if this is bad or not but when I like a book/series, I get majorly obsessed, like, MAJORLY. But my friends and I have agreed that obsessions are OK.

message 77: by Patricia (new)

Patricia (deathserum) When I start a book, I have to finish it no matter how boring it is or no matter how senseless it is. I keep telling myself that something good will happen or that there's going to be a big plot twist in the book somewhere and I just have to keep reading to get to those parts (unfortunately some books don't have a very interesting plot twists). I feel like I owe it to the author to finish the book they wrote and worked hard on for months, regardless of how boring or senseless the book is to me.

message 78: by Mia (last edited Feb 08, 2013 09:25AM) (new)

Mia (miademonteverde) Patricia wrote: "When I start a book, I have to finish it no matter how boring it is or no matter how senseless it is. Patricia I absolutely agree with you and it seriously brings me to read a book like "To Kill A Mockingbird" in a matter of a couple of days :/

message 79: by Nancy Violet (new)

Nancy Violet (nancy_violet) I tend to start reading a book, but the put it aside and start reading another book... then another... and another.. and I end up reading 7 books all at once and can't keep track of them and then I put them all down to start on a completely different book again which I read all the way through before starting another, and then the first books just lay there unread...

message 80: by Emily (new)

Emily (emilydodd221) Patricia wrote: "When I start a book, I have to finish it no matter how boring it is or no matter how senseless it is. I keep telling myself that something good will happen or that there's going to be a big plot tw..."

I admire you.. If I don't like a book I leave it. sometimes I'll pick it up again a couple of years later and like it, mostly because I tried to read it when I was too young.

Zaira's Bookshelf (zairasbookshelf) There's a few habits here:

-Reading too late.
-Eating while reading, this doesn't really bother me.
-So many people say that counting pages is a bad habit? I do that out of necessity sometimes.

I used to have to read every single book through once I've started. Now, I don't have enough time for that, and I just put it aside.

Same here!

message 83: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (littlenatalie) Agree with Emily & Tori.

message 84: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 2 comments A bad habit would be that I always look up spoilers online when I read a book, cause I hate surprises. Also I almost always never finish a book.. I know I know I am the worst reader ever.

message 85: by Amy (last edited Feb 09, 2013 02:24PM) (new)

Amy (amielouise) When I start a book I have to finish it to the end no matter how much I may hate it (also I am a cheapskate.) I can't read several books at a time and leave them for long periods and pick it up and just get back into the story if I leave a book I have to start it again.
I use to always have a sneaky glance at the last page of the book but I've stopped that now due to the fact it usually spoils it and also I'm too lazy to do it now with my Kindle.
I always read too late especially when I can't sleep I always think 'hey, reading will help make me tired' I start reading, get too engrossed and get sleep deprivation.

message 86: by Kimi (new)

Kimi (hateeverybeautifulday) I also have to finish every book that I begin, even if I hate it. I also loose track of time, and often read for hours and hours on end, often forgetting to put the light on until I'm basically holding the book up to my eyes!

message 87: by Bircan (new)

Bircan Tokgöz | 1 comments i always check how many pages do i have left to read.

message 88: by Tamii (new)

Tamii | 1 comments 1-I hate that I forget myself when I read , I lose track of time when I read , and if the book is awesome I can't put it down unless I finished it , or slept trying , OH MAN I remember when I started reading the game of thrones series , I thought my eyes will pop out I couldn't concentrate on any thing else .
2-And I hate that I can't start a new book unless i finish reading the one before it , that would be good , but sometimes I get stuck with a baaaaad book and finishing a bad book is hard.
3-I hate that a bad book can give me a bad mood , I become like a crazy person shouting at the hero , the heroin , the author .

message 89: by Alexandra (new)

Alexandra (cherry_crush) | 30 comments Oooh i have a lot of those. Like I always read the last sentence, not the whole page but the last sentence, i've spoiled so many books for myself like that. If I start a book I have to finish it, I may hate ti with all my heart and soul, I may delay reading it but in the end I always finish it. I get myself lost when I read, I mean i start reading and it's like 10pm and when i look at the clock it's 4am :D And last, or at least the last I can thnk of, I read in like the weirdest positions ever, while reading i can be found in normal spots - the couch, the bed. But I can also be sitting on the floor, or at a corner in my house, whatever I feel like :D

message 90: by Sarah (new)

my daughter lies in weird ways too. She likes to lay in the on the couch with her legs hanging over. if the book is going in high action her legs start moving if it in a suspense type setting she holds them straight until she gets past hat part.

message 95: by Ellie (new)

Ellie Rylatt (ellieryl) | 3 comments i like to look how far through a book my bookmark is every time i finish reading - it either gives me a sense of accomplishment or makes me think "OH MY GOD THIS BOOK IS DRAGGING"

message 96: by Santino (new)

Santino (tinoprinzi) @ Ellie I also do this! I'm even worse on a kindle because I try to work out how many kindle pages I need to read to get to have read 1% and then I try and work out how many pages I need to read to get to certain pages and all sorts!

message 97: by Justine (new)

Justine (juslagunzad) | 17 comments Everytime I read a book, I tend to read it's summary first and then read the last few pages before I start it. Weird.

message 98: by Mochaspresso (new)

Mochaspresso | 27 comments 1) The biggest bad habit is reading ahead....and checking goodreads reviews for spoilers when I want to know where something in a book is going. I can't just wait and read for myself. I always have to know right now!!!

2) Accidentally spoiling for other people who aren't as keen to know spoilers as I am. :)

3) Buying more books from Amazon than I can possibly read. Those kindle daily deals hook me all the time.

message 99: by Megan (new)

Megan | 3 comments A bad habit of mine is that I sometimes get so involved in reading that I will not do anything else; like cleaning my apartment, eating, sleeping, laundry, homework, answering the phone etc.. it is especially bad when it's a series and worse now that there's ebooks I don't even have to leave my home to buy them. lol.

message 100: by Paula (new)

Paula (paulispinel) | 6 comments I also tend to flip through the paged randomly and sometimes catch a word or phrase that kind of spoils me something... it's not usual but it's happened.
Another bad habit is that I mark the words i need to look up in the dictionary, and don't do it immediately and then i forgot about them.
