Hey Mister,I am going to be honest, I don't know much about writing mysteries myself, I am currently trying to figure that out too, because a story came to me in my head, and I am having the hardest time laying it out. I think the best thing to do is make an outline. Once you have an outline, it helps you know what you want to reveal in each chapter. I think dropping subtle clues throughout the story from the very beginning is best. Especially when a reader doesn't even realize it's a clue! Another suggestion is reading the genre you are trying to write. I have been told this or read this many times over, if I want to write mystery, I should read mystery. Pinterest is also helpful with ideas on how to lay out the ground work.
I notice this post was made in May, and so far no replies, but I do hope you are still actively writing and you've figured some things out by now! If you found any thing useful, do share, as I would like to know more about writing mysteries as well!
Hi Monz, I have written seven books so far including a trilogy all different non a mystery though of course many an outcome hidden to the end. The way I write is after I've got the basic idea I just write a story as though I'm telling someone it's usually very rough, then over next Lord knows how many weeks I develop it and write it over and over again some times with ideas from my husband. When I'm satisfied I send it to my friend who acts as a beta reader, after her comments I often rewrite parts to improve it again. When I'm completely happy I go to Createspace and publish. Hope this is some help but it's just my way of doing it after all. Good luck.
