Jumana | 12 comments I just finished reading this book and wondered what others thought of the interference with Syl Vor's memory at the end of the book. I didn't approve - it might make sense if the whole episode had been forgotten, but to keep most of it and just change the end did not make sense. Syl Vor acted bravely and correctly to save lives and removing the memory makes it feel like he did something wrong that he should be ashamed of.

Sam (cthufoo) | 1 comments Memory modification in the Liaden universe is the only acceptable version to me. Healers don't erase the memory. Instead they fog it using the person's own desire not to remember.

The whole book Syl Vor was stressed by assuming responsibilities he wasn't mature enough to handle emotionally. Him being happy and free to play at the end shows the positives of the memory modification.

Past examples of Liaden healers fogging memories have all had the person remembering once they were able to handle it.
