TonyQ (tonytheq) | 175 comments I have just tried to put my first short story up for people to have a look/comment on but I coudn't find a way of uploading it and I don't really want to type it all up again?

Chris The Story Reading Ape (chrisgr) Librarians / Group Leaders please help Tony if you can.
I'm not an author Tony, but I think you can upload to Goodreads, Smashwords, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, etc, in pdf format, then they can convert it to other formats for you.

TonyQ (tonytheq) | 175 comments Unfortunately I don't have PDF. It's taken forever to get a decent version of MSWord so much prefer that if pssible. Thanks!

Michael Brookes (technohippy) What version of Word are you using? You should be able to save as a PDF.

message 5: by TonyQ (new)

TonyQ (tonytheq) | 175 comments Its 2007. There are several saving options. Can't remeber if PDF one of them.

I use 2003 which doesn't allow you to save as pdf. I don't know whether 2007 does or not, at least one of the later versions does.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I've changed your thread title to have it reflect your question.

Hope that's okay. :)

Michael Brookes (technohippy) You should be able to save as a PDF with 2007.

Andrew Lawston (andrewlawston) | 1774 comments For even more reference, Open Office also supports both MS Word files and features an option to save files as PDF. Also free to download, and my writing program of choice.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Is it resolved?

Are you all sorted Tony?

message 12: by TonyQ (new)

TonyQ (tonytheq) | 175 comments Right going to check if I can do this right now!

I will return either crying or elated!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Lol!

Good luck!

Be sure to tell us!

TonyQ (tonytheq) | 175 comments BOO HOO!!

Got PDF sorted but don't know how to get it from saved to the writing page!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I'm sure a clever person will be along in a minute to help.

Which rules me out...

Can you explain what you mean here?
You've saved your original MSWord doc as a pdf file (on your laptop or pc).
And then you want to get it to the writing page - do you mean the Goodreads writing page?

message 17: by TonyQ (new)

TonyQ (tonytheq) | 175 comments Hi Rob

It is currently saved onto a pen drive but if I need to put it on hard drive its no problem. My poor old pc is slow enough without adding file after file to hard drive so I put all my writing on pens. And yes it is for Goodreads 'my writing' page.

TonyQ (tonytheq) | 175 comments Thanks for any help so far guys - still none the wisaer but recently discovered one of my friends on Goodreads (also a UKAKF member) has published his own stuff so maybe he will help. Keep sending advice tho guys xx.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I'll post a link to this thread in the morning thread, Tony. Hopefully more will see it then.

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Can you give us a link to your writing page because I don't think any of us know what you mean at the moment....

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I know I don't. But I'm quite used to that feeling.

message 22: by Shaun (new)

Shaun (shaunjeffrey) | 2467 comments Goodreads is not really a place to upload stories for people to read. It's more about listing and talking about books/stories published elsewhere. They did used to allow you to upload them, but not sure whether they still offer that service. If you want people to read your story, I would suggest either posting it to a blog if you have one, or if you have an author thread, posting it to that.

Hope that helps.

TonyQ (tonytheq) | 175 comments Done it!! First story is on! Just copy & paste from word! woohoo!

TonyQ (tonytheq) | 175 comments It is on the creative writing section under Explore. I put it in my writings so in All Writing it should appear somewhere (I hope). If not let me know - back to square one!!

TonyQ (tonytheq) | 175 comments If you go into Creative Writing and search TonyQ it appears! Yay!
