D.G. The first day of Spring is the Vernal Equinox, where night and day are nearly exactly the same length – 12 hours.

Read a book with either of these words in the title: dark, night, day, light, dusk, dawn.

Janice | 713 comments Lovers of fiction and nonfiction unite and read a book which is considered biographical fiction. Here's a listopia list with some examples:
http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/30...

Research the listopia lists. Chose one you find odd/unique but interesting, and read a book off that list. When you post the finished task, provide the the list you found it on to share with others.

Or read a book with an even number of pages.

Jennifer W | 466 comments Spring and fall

Fall, our theme, and spring, our season are both nouns and verbs. Read a book with a word in the title that can be both a noun and a verb.

JC (jmnc) | 638 comments From wikipedia: The white tiger is a recessive mutant of the Bengal tiger. Read a book that is a "mutant", like Pride and Prejudice and Zombies or Android Karenina.

Vernal Equinox: read a book with a V,Q or X in the title or author's name.

April showers bring May flowers: read the final book in a series and the first book in a new-to-you series (2 book task).

I live somewhere up north and we often hunt easter eggs in the snow. Some people I know (though I haven't tried it yet) hunt uncolored eggs (white) in the white snow to make things extra challenging. So, read a book that involves a quest of some sort to find something hidden. The Da Vinci Code would be an example.

message 62: by JC (new)

JC (jmnc) | 638 comments I just knew when I saw the "white tiger" for the next challenge that there had to be an 80s glam rock band with that name. And I found them: http://hardrockhideout.com/2007/04/06...

Here's a list of tracks from their 1986 self titled album

Rock Warriors
Love / Hate
Bad Time Coming
Runaway
Still Standing Strong
Live To Rock
Northern Wind
Stand And Deliver
White Hot Desire
Rock Warriors (Remix)*

Lots we could do with this: Read a book with an author that shares a name with any of the band members, a book that shares a word with the tracks, read any rock band member's bio/autobio/memior, book published in 80s, ......

Dee (austhokie) | 8947 comments Same name, different spelling - 2 book task - 2 authors whose name is said the same but spelt different - Sara/sarah

message 64: by JC (new)

JC (jmnc) | 638 comments Hasbro is retiring the iron from it's Monopoly play tokens and replacing it with a cat after an internet vote. We could say goodbye to the iron by reading a book with clothing on the cover, and/or welcome the kitty by reading a book with a cat on the cover.

message 65: by Lorna (new)

Lorna | 526 comments A tiger is a cat. I LOVE CATS! Read a book with any cat on the cover.

Attention Grabbers: I've always been intrigued by the 1st sentences of books. Read a book that grabs your attention with a first sentence of 8 words or less.

Easter Shoes: My Dad owned and operated a shoe store for many years where I worked in my youth. Easter Saturday was THE busiest day of the year. Read a book that has shoes on the cover that could be part of a new Easter outfit.

Chaitra (chaitra_ganesh) | 518 comments I came across this on my Facebook feed - Pantone's Spring 2013 Fashion Colors: Read a book with one of the colors on the report.

For lent, be brave and overcome temptation by reading Food Fiction or go the normal way and read something tagged Christian/Religion.

White tiger myth says that it only appears when there's peace in the world. In honor of that, read a book with the genre War on the main page.

Read a book with 2 words in the title containing the words White and/or Tiger. Discount A, An, The.

I only discovered SRC in mid 2012, and I sometimes go back and read through the tasks of older SRCs. Complete a one-book 5/10/15 points task from an SRC of the past.

This year is the 101st National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington DC - 101 years ago Japan presented these trees to the US to promote friendship. Read a book set in Washington DC or Japan.

Did you mean a two word title with one of the two words being "white" or "tiger"? Or did you mean a title containing one of the two words: "white"/"tiger"?

message 68: by Chaitra (new)

Chaitra (chaitra_ganesh) | 518 comments I couldn't decipher what I wrote myself, lol. What I meant was a two word title (discounting a, an, the) containing one of the words - white or tiger.
Ex: The Tiger's Wife, White Oleander or even The White Tiger.

message 69: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 86 comments May 5th is Cinqo de Mayo. Read a book set in Mexico or whose cover is primarily red, green or white (like the Mexican flag).

I love this one!

Marie-Anne | 950 comments "White Tiger" made me think of albinism.
1) Read a NF book about albinism
2) Read a F book where a main character (human or not) has albinism
3) Read a F book where an important part of the story is affected by albinism.

"White" is a color. One of the colors schemes used to display colors on a computer screen is called the RGB (for Red Green Blue) color scheme. Each color is represented by a color triplet, which specifies the component of red, green and blue light in a color.
1) Read a book F/NF about or including triplets.
2) Read a book the author or (one of) the main character is a triplet.
3) Read a book where the cover is primarily Red, Green or Blue.
4) Read a book where the author's name includes Red, Green or Blue.
5) Read a book where the title includes Red, Green or Blue in another word.

Shawn | 297 comments Something I really look forward to during the spring season is the start of baseball. Read a fiction or nonfiction book about baseball or written by a current or former baseball player.

message 73: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 8947 comments Books with essays by popular authors seem to be on the rise - like Everything I Needed to Know about Being a Girl I Learned from Judy Blume) - read a book of these essays and then a book by an author that contributed

Where I am, the big sport that starts at this time of year is Australian Rules Football; for those living in the state to our north it is Rugby League. Perhaps we could read a book featuring the sport of the season where we live.

Claire (proud-mum) | 1086 comments The annual Spring Racing Carnival of thoroughbred horse racing events is held in Melbourne in October and November, with large crowds attending. The Melbourne Cup, held on the first Tuesday of November, is Australia's premier horse race and is recognised as a public holiday in the state of Victoria and the territory of the nation's capital, Australian Capital Territory. It is also referred to as The race that stops a nation.

Read a book that involves horses or a book with a horse(s) on the cover.

OR

Read a book set in Australia or by an Australian author.

Claire (proud-mum) | 1086 comments May Day

1 May is the date of many public holidays.[11] In many countries, May Day is synonymous with International Workers' Day, or Labour Day, which celebrates the social and economic achievements of the labour movement. As a day of celebration the holiday has ancient origins, and it can relate to many customs that have survived into modern times. Many of these customs are due to May Day being a cross-quarter day, meaning that (in the Northern Hemisphere where it is almost exclusively celebrated) it falls approximately halfway between the spring equinox and summer solstice. In the Celtic tradition, this date marked the end of Spring and the beginning of Summer. In line with this, Ireland celebrates St Brigid's Day (1 February) as the first day of Spring.

May Day is almost exclusively celebrated in the Northern Hemisphere - read a book set in the Northern Hemisphere.
