Janice (jamasc) | 60019 comments ROFL! Just for that I'm tempted to specify some outrageous word count... 1000 words.

No, just tell us what you thought of the book. What did you like? What did you dislike?

message 152: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19219 comments 3500 words, 1.5 spaced, references (Chicago style thank you) and a bibliography Amy. Didn't Janice mention that before?

message 154: by AmyK (new)

AmyK (yakyma) | 1045 comments HAHAHA...I believe if i were forced to write a 1000 word review then there would be no badge for me.

You know, I can talk about books until people fall asleep most of the time, I don't know what it is about writing reviews that makes me not want to. I don't remember liking to do book reports as a kid though either.

message 155: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60019 comments I feel your pain, Amy. I'm the same way. I hated having to write book reports in school. The teachers always seemed to be looking for something other than what I wrote.

AmyK (yakyma) | 1045 comments ROFL Rusalka

April | 970 comments Oh, Ruth Rendell, why are your books soooooo slow moving? 70 pages remaining of A Sight for Sore Eyes and HOPING I can finish it tonight.

This is as good as it's going to get!

message 161: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I agree with your comment about the teachers always looking for something else other than what you wrote, Janice. I think I felt the same way, but it is almost too long ago to remember.

Unlike Amy, I do not mind writing something now. There is no pressure and I can write what I feel is important to me.

message 162: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60019 comments There is something wrong when a teacher asks, "What is your opinion?" and then declares it incorrect.

Good job, Amy! I enjoyed your review.

Agreed, art in all forms is subjective.

message 164: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments You did good, Amy! :D

Janice - if Dragons were real, she really WOULD have one, I am sure if it!

Rusalka - she is just too nice to write and say what she really thought about where you could put your badge if she had to write a book report like you indicated above. ;)

message 167: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4547 comments I never liked writing book reports and still find it difficult to write reviews here. Sometimes I like or dislike a book just because. No real reason, or anything I can put my finger on. I don't always analyze that closely. For me it isn't necessary to have people agree with my take on something. Sometimes I'm in the minority, sometimes not. But at the same time I wouldn't want to rant about how much I hate a book and offend someone who loved it. Someone here, I don't remember who, said once that she doesn't analyze the books, talking about characterization or use of language, picking the books apart like it was part of an English writing course, but rather it's how it makes you feel. Did you like it? Not like it? Was there a part you liked more? Less? A yawner? Couldn't put it down? Spoke to you or not? So now that's how I look at the books I read. I still don't like writing reviews. :b

message 171: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19219 comments The thing you have to remember with reviews is that it's your own opinion. I wouldn't worry about offending people with your reviews as it is your impression of what you have read. I recommend calling the authors names if you don't like the book. It's very therapeutic.

You're tags have always cracked me up Gaeta.

I read _____. I gave it ___ stars, because of the plot structure, anachronisms, out-of-time characters, and pretty language that devolves into "rosy-fingered" mush.

Don't worry, I am familiar with both. I guess I should have said "awesomely disturbing", that may have been a better indicator that I was speaking of the older Crash. ;) It's one of those movies I liked, but probably never need to see again. But I do still want tot read the book for some reason. Source material and all that. The other Crash is pretty good too (and disturbing in its own way), if there was a book, I'd read it.

Happy to hear you know of both. Didn't want you to be caught off guard by the older version and the fictional source. :)

Rosanna Arquette stole that fim!

Shannon, you can change your Goodreads name and it will show as Shannon from NY for everything you do on the site. Unfortunately, there is no way to change it just for one group.
