Is there something about the ending that I missed? I wonder if my Kindle edition was incomplete. Louise, a relatively unimportant character, is in the book's last scene without any relevance. Please help with your response.

It's a cliffhanger ending. Louise in her car collides with Erica and Anna. We'll have to wait for the next book, "The lighthouse keeper", I think, to find out what happens to the two pregnant sisters and how things turn out with Patrik.
I thought the Enlish title of the next book was The Lost Boy. You have a translation of the Swedish title. It isn't available in the US yet as far as I can tell
