I don't know how I feel about this book...

I'm not even half way through the book yet. It was difficult to get into it at first. I had to re-read parts just to understand who is who, what is what, how they are connected and how this all came to be. But, now that I am into it more and understand the concept and characters more, I find it interesting. I too had to put my ideas of "Twilight" aside and see this as a new story line and idea. I loved the Twilight series and so I really wanted to read more of her work. I do want to see the movie to hopefully put some of this together.

I have read Stephenie Meyer's Twillight series in its entirety. I fell in love with those books, so I thought I would give "The Host" a chance. After reading it (which I had to force myself to get through the first couple of chapters because it was so slow moving), I was left unimpressed and a little unsatisfied with this story. I thought the story line itself was very creative. It was about an alien race who tries to take over different species, conquering one world at a time. The main character (or characters depending on how you look at it) is an alien (Wanda) that takes over Melanie's body. The twist comes in when you realize that Melanie does not want to give up control of her mind. That whole conflict was very interesting throughout the novel. I like romances, so I thought it was interesting seeing the conflict in the girls' minds when it came to Jared, Melanie's love, who eventually also turns into Wanda's love because of Melanie's memories of him.
Like I said, this book had great potential. However it was poorly executed and simply did not live up to my expectations.
