One of our February Book of the Month picks is:

HOUNDED by Kevin Hearne!

Please read and discuss below =)

Brianna | 64 comments This was a really good book. :D I love Oberon and Atticus. I need to read the rest of this series

☀Rachael☀ (jimbunni) I love this series especially Oberon!

Katy (kathy_h) This is a fun book.

Amber (peachystateofmind) | 5 comments This an enjoyable book and a great start to the series. The main character had just enough sarcasm and humor. Being a druid made quite an enjoyable plot as many tales, history, etc were woven in but not overwhelming or bogged down with too much "telling" behind them. Oberon was a favorite and obviously Atticus too.

Reader-ramble | 17 comments Love this book! Love this series! It is one of the few I actually get excited for when a new book comes out.

Leesa (leesalogic) Every book needs Oberon :) Just adore him.

I really enjoyed this book. I kept thinking of Kyle Schmid (the vampire from the Blood Ties short-lived TV series).

Ivy (ivyf) | 11 comments Rachael wrote: "I love this series especially Oberon!"

I second that! Oberon needs to get on the cover of one of the next books.

Vered (vered_ehsani) Okay, I think I'm going to be the only person here who didn't fall head over heels in love with this book. I liked it (gave it 4 stars), but:

1) I had heard so much hype about it before reading that my expectations were way up there in the stars somewhere.

2) The writing was good but not brilliant

3) It kind of reminded me of an adult version of Percy Jackson, which is alright (I like Percy Jackson lots) but not brilliantly original.

Yes, I did like Oberon, but again, I heard SO much about this character that I expected more. Don't get me wrong, for those who haven't read this - it's definitely worth picking up, and it is a fun read. Just not as brilliant as I had heard.

Jim Parish | 2 comments I wasn't familiar with this series until it was chosen for one of Feb's books. I'm only a quarter of the way in, and I have to say I like it a lot. Oberon, of course, brings a lot to the show. I like kick-ass woman protagonists as well as the next guy, but it is refreshing to find a series other than Dresden with a male protagonist, and one with an appropriate level of sarcasm.

Cheryl Brown I guess my recent reading habits, while urban fantasy or paranormal romance, were darker - more moody. This book is a nice change, quite funny in places. But I did find it a bit lightweight. I'll read the second in the series, though, to see if it catches my fancy. Also, I listened to the audio version, rather than reading, so a lot of my enjoyment hinges on the reader, and I didn't find him all that great. So for the second, I'll rely on the words and my own imagination!

I think this is why I liked it when I read it, I was in the mood for lightweight and good.

Nikki (withererose) Just got my copy of this book and our other read from the library, will get started on those pretty soon, curse school for interfering though :( boo I wanna read for fun again not textbooks :(

Sara | 75 comments I love this series. It's simply fun. Atticus is amusing and he has a great cast of supporting characters - Oberon, the Morrigan, Hal, Leif, and the Widow among others. I also love the fact that characters from various mythologies make appearances throughout the series. I won't name exact individuals in case you haven't read the entire series but characters from Celtic, Norse, Russian, Native American, Roman, Greek, and Christianity myths all make appearances. And while it never gets truly "dark" Hammered (book 3) has plenty of "oh crap" moments that leads to even bigger "oh crap" moments later on in the series.

Nikki (withererose) Going to start this book later today, gonna take some time for some "fun" reading woot!!!! hopefully it's as good as I've heard :) Looking forward to it, then again so far there hasn't been a book on here that I haven't liked or wanted to continue with the series :)

Kat Klein | 151 comments I've found a new author to follow. There aren't many series with male Protagonists for me to enjoy. This one may eventually rate up there with the Dresden Files. I really enjoyed this. Enough that I've already finished Hounded and Hexed as well, and am working my way thru Tricked.

Erin Gilmore | 9 comments Love Kevin Hearne! I've read this whole series to date. Very fun and well written. Oberon is a favorite character, but I love Atticus' old lady neighbor as well.

I just started this book and I'm not completely sold yet. I'll have to keep reading and see how good it gets.

Agreed!

Vera M. I just started this book. I was ready for a lighthearted read with a male protagonist. So I decided this was next up on my books to read since thats what the comments seem to promise.

Vera M. There's something about this book I really, really like. It was a fun read. I don't feel like the characters rally have much depth, but i enjoyed it anyways. The book had a ton of action and even though I wasn't on the edge of my seat, biting my nails to find out what happens next, it was fast paced. I will definitely continue this series.

That is a perfect review of this book. I feel the same, especially about the characters not having a lot of depth, but I really liked it anyways. I just bought the second one and hope to start it tonight.

Otherwyrld Kevin Hearne was my favourite new author of 2012 and I'm glad to see his books getting so much love

Naapio | 20 comments I'm about halfway though the book, I started it on Sunday evening and plan to finish it this week. It's an easy read, text is flowing nicely and though there is some world building and introdoction of characters it's not too forced at all.

The snark is very entertaining and I have laughed aloud several times at the witty remarks as well as the absurdity of the plot. I have a feeling the author is a fan of Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchett (as am I) but I hope his style evolves during the next books to allow a little more depth to his characters.

Amyiw | 175 comments I read this in November and have steadily been reading through the series. I'm up to Trapped but I still have a couple of the initial shorts to read too.

If you didn't get it started this month, it is really worth it. I was a little leery as the only other male UF writer I had read before picking this one up was Jim Butcher's Dresden Files. Although Dresden is good, it leaves me a little down (depressed) after every book. I can only take them a little at a time. I was really glad to start this book as it is much lighter but still action packed and it has a lot of humor to boot.

Vera M. I hear that Jim butcher's Alexa codex series is much better then Dresden files

I must be the only one, but I found Oberan's character very annoying....

He does get better in the later books. But I know what you mean.

Vered (vered_ehsani) Jacki - although I didn't find him annoying, I didn't exactly fall head over heals the way other readers were going on about him. He was ok. I way prefer Manchee in The knife of never letting go - now, there was a cool dog character.

I've never read that one...
