It is a quick read. Gets quicker the farther into it you are. Of course that is by choice of not wanting to put it down :)
On another forum I'm a member of I was posting about another book i'm reading. I was thinking of abandoning the book. Without thinking I wrote that I am going to Lem the Pickwick papers. Funnily enough that killed the thread stone dead!! Oh dear. While I'm waiting for my copy to arrive I'm going to give John Scalzi's "The ghost Brigades" a go.

Perfect!! Now I can fill up my ipod for when I'm at work!! (I'm a lorry {truck} driver. I can play it while I'm pounding the roads of the uk)
Thanks for the link
This is fantastic. I can listen to the book while I knit. I have been impatiently waiting for the book to be ordered by my library. This will give me a jump start.
Looks like I'll be listening to the audio version as I cannot get a copy (paperback, e book etc) nothing will ship to Australia. >.<
Olivia wrote: "Looks like I'll be listening to the audio version as I cannot get a copy (paperback, e book etc) nothing will ship to Australia. >.<"Olivia, I ordered a copy from US Amazon to Australia and all together it cost no more that what I paid for Cloud Atlas at Dymocks, even with the medium fast shipping. Got here in less than a week.
I couldn't find a copy in store but ordered it from BN no problem. I find it kinda crazy how use to being able to get any book instantaneously with ebooks I've become, having to wait a couple days for it to come in seems a hassle.
It is at times like this I really miss the old, independent, one man operation that was the independent bookshop. You know, the one that used to be closed at random times when the owner was off at book fairs and auctions. Our old shop would have most likely been able to find me a copy. Probably in a box in his cellar!!
I wonder what's involved in starting up a bookshop myself?
Stop press. Just had an email from the amazon re-seller to say my book has been dispatched!! Looking forward to finding out through the highlights and annotations what previous owners of this copy thought about the book.

I had a textbook in my eighteenth century lit. class back when I was an undergrad. The previous owner had doodled a little stick figure in one corner of each page, each time slightly differently posed. It took me two weeks to twig to the fact that if I ruffled the corner of the pages, I could make the little man dance. Best. Footnote. Ever.

Thank you so much for posting this. I just listened to the first part, chapters 1-3 and I'm really enjoying it.
If you're looking for e-book version, you can get it as part of a collection (the book is one in a trilogy from what I've gathered so far) under the title "The Chronicles of Master Li and Number Ten Ox" as seen at the publisher's website: http://subterraneanpress.com/store/pr...
My copy has finally arrived :-) Not many notes in the margins unfortunately but it is a Corgi edition from 1986. Complete with Stains, a bit dog eared. It looks and smells like it has been well read and loved in its lifetime. Looking forward to starting reading it tomorrow on my rota day off work.
Boo, the library system in my city doesn't have a copy :( I'll investigate some to the electronic resources people have mentioned hear, but without a decent e-reader I may miss this one.
Just one more option: at present, at least ten copies are for sale on ebay, for as little as $8.00, including shipping. I hate to see anybody miss this one.
The hunt for a copy of this book bought back fond memories of my teenage years in the early 1980's. Pre internet, Searching for out of print books and records was always an adventure. Many friendships were made in the adventures to second hand bookshops and car boot sales. Sometimes I miss all that with ebooks being so easy to find. I'm going to enjoy this book for all the hunting I've done to get my hands on a copy.
Well, I've nearly finished the book. It took a bit of getting into and Life has gotten in the way at times. I found my enjoyment of this book benefited from longer than normal reading sessions. Today I have reached chapter 19 and am on schedule to finish by the end of this week.I mentioned this book to a friend who said If I enjoyed this I should read
So this is my next read on my kindle!! Anybody else ever read this? I have to admit I am completely unfamiliar with this author, in fact, I'm not even sure which genre the book is!!
My local library owns 1 copy of this book, and it was checked out at the beginning of the month. I JUST got it in for me!

I'm going to order a second hand copy from Amazon for the princely price of £0.01!! (plus £2.80 p&p lol)The copy i'm ordering contains "defects such as notes and highlighting" Should be interesting!!
Anyone else having problems getting a copy?
Edit: expected delivery between 4th fed to 15th feb!! Hope it is a quick read!!
