Jeremy Brett's Sherlock Holmes

Here is a reason why you should watch Jeremy Brett - his portrayal and the show he was in is so similar to Sherlock. Some things never change.

DO WATCH, DO WATCH, DO WATCH! Argh, Jeremy Brett is so amazing! Especially when you have Benedict Cumberbatch gushing over Jeremy's portrayal, you know it's good.

Hence, my initial reluctance to watch the BBC Sherlock. I couldn't imagine anyone doing it better. I need not have worried. The new series succeeds because it doesn't try to reinvent the wheel. They've done an amazing job of paying homage to the original genius of the stories while adding something new and fresh.
Cumberbatch watched Brett when he was a kid and you can see the influences clearly. A very good thing.

I agree with everything you just said. I was also reluctant to watch Sherlock, as I doubted anyone could surpass Jeremy, but I was pleased with how it took a different look at the Canon. Even my mom, a devoted Jeremy-ite and picky Sherlockian, adores Sherlock!

But yeah ... I thought Sherlock himself was played really well.
Oh, yes! He is so close to the books it is eerie. Jeremy Brett dedicated so much of himself to the role that it very nearly consumed him. So tragic. :(

I'm new to this whole thing >_< lol.
Sherlockian was used as a term long before "Sherlock" came around, but I think it can be used for both. Just like how the term Whovian is used for people who are fans of the New and Classic Doctor Who.

I am a Sherlockian and SHERLOCKED.
WOOHOO! You are a great Sherlockian, Johanna! I don't know many of the new fans who take the time to investigate other adaptations of Holmes, so you especially deserve the title.
There's nothing wrong with fans who just want to watch "Sherlock" and nothing else, but just like how it's good for New Whovians to watch Classic Who, I think it's important to being a Sherlockian to investigate the original source material.
As you can see, I take Sherlock Holmes very seriously. XD I need to get a life...

This is the first adaption I've watched so far, actually, but thanks! Lol. I've started the first book, though, and I'd like to watch some of the other adaptions someday. And so far I'm really enjoying both the films and the books :)
You haven't watched Sherlock? Oh, but this is magnificent! I am so pleased that your first Sherlock Holmes will be Jeremy! :D :D :D I'm glad you're enjoying it. *happy chicken dance*

:D Lol, me too! Haha. One of my favourite scenes is him leaping over a chair when Dr. Watson arrives (and is about to leave again) at the beginning of The Red-headed League. A chair! It was awesome.
But yeah. Haven't watched Sherlock. I'm not much of a TV watcher :P But I may watch it sometime.
YES! Jeremy is a ninja couch jumper. He did it so elegantly, too! All proper Sherlock Holmes' must have a disregard for furniture.
Watch Sherlock when you get the chance, but I personally think it's funner to watch it after you've read a fair amount of the books and watched Jeremy Brett. That way you get all the inside jokes that the Moff and Gattis love to toss at us.

Moff and Gattis? Cool. I'll look forward to it.
Steven Moffat and Mark Gattis are the creators and two of the three writers of the show. The Moff is also in charge of Doctor Who, and Mark writes with him on that.

Ah! I feel like I should have known that ^_^. Even though idk how I would, but anyway >P<
Thanks :D I have a lot to learn ^_^
Thank you! I just constantly spend way too much time on the internet, instead of doing productive activities.

"Why does that word bother me? ... Trap."
It sent this massive shiver down my spine >:D Epicness. But, of course, they saved the day ... so all is well :)
Yay! *fistpump* I'm glad you liked it! I don't really have any Jeremy Brett episodes that I dislike. Well, maybe The Devil's Foot. That was a TRIPPY one, but it wasn't any fault of Jeremy's. Just the silly director. And I also find his later episodes difficult to watch, because although they're very good, seeing Jeremy's health deteriorate breaks my heart.

>:D So you should be, lol.

I know! I've watched them, but I can't stand to rewatch them. I just want to break down sobbing. :'(

>:D So you should be, lol."
Oh, yes! :D
*heart flutters* I've had the biggest crush on Sherlock Holmes and Jeremy Brett for so long, ever since I first started watching the episodes. FEELS.

Jeremy Brett and Edward Hardwicke - my favorite Sherlock Holmes and Watson (Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are close seconds)
I put this in the Sherlock folder, even though Jeremy Brett's Sherlock Holmes was years before Benedict's and the show he starred in took a different approach to Sherlock Holmes. I know that I am probably the only person who has watched his portrayl, so I'm going to mostly post about why you all should watch the Granada TV show, and reasons why Jeremy Brett was so wonderful. For now, I'll just post gifs. :D
