Rebecca | 4 comments Lion, Witch, Wardrobe, by CS Lewis

When I enter the ISBN from the back of the book in front of me (9780060234812), it brings up a different cover. The correct cover is the one from ISBN 9780060234829 - a fuzzy golden lion being hugged by two girls. The problem with the second book's data is that it's listed as abridged. I'm no Lewis expert, but no where does this book (in my hand) say it's abridged. My guess is that 9780060234829 is incorrectly here listed as abridged.

I guess that's more than one issue, but don't really know how to untangle it.

many thanks

Foxtower | 38 comments Ok Rebecca... it's not unusual to have different covers for the same ISBN. I can and will remove "abridged" from 9780060234812 since you have it in your hand.

If you see any other data that's wrong let me know and I'll gladly fix it!

Banjomike | 5166 comments It look like the cover change was made by a librarian and the "abridged" was added by one of the imports. I've reverted them for now. I'll check and see if alternate needs to be made.

Foxtower | 38 comments Done... the word "abridged" was in the "edition" box. Does your book list which edition it is? (it's usually on the first couple pages witht he isbn, copyrite etc.)

Unfortunately popular books with many editions may not say which edition it is, and it may indeed just be a new "printing" with no real changes. Leaving out the "edition" won't hurt anything, where "abridged" might give readers the wrong idea about the book.

Foxtower | 38 comments Hey Banjomike! I think we crossed paths in computer land! I was just trying to remove "abridged" and I hope I didn't muss up things!

Don't think you did. I tried to revert the "abridged" edit rather than just delete it. It gives a better audit trail because it shows where the info you are deleting originally came from. The cover reverts seem OK.

Rebecca | 4 comments Not sure I followed all of what you both said, but I thank you greatly never-the-less!!

I checked the book after posting my request and realized that I didn't double check the inside flap. There it lists the second ISBN (9780060234812) as the library binding, which this book is. Obviously another binding (trade bdg) has the ISBN listed on the back. Sorry, I should have checked inside before posting.

Regardless, there is no mention of which edition, and it certainly doesn't say abridged. I read LWW 35 years ago and really can't say for sure, but in the absence of it saying so, I assume that it IS unabridged.

many thanks to you both again.
