Completed Francona: The Red Sox Years for Rapunzel. In 2004 the hero arrives to break a 86 year old curse. Read Rapunzel and Rumpelstiltskin (and actually watched The Sleeping Beauty on Monday).

You have me on the scoreboard twice Barbara - not sure if you are hoping that I am going to complete the challenge twice :) (it's not going to happen I can assure you).

Completed Rock Me Amadeus. It is a history of classical music so most musicians and musical instruments feature. Read the Town Musicians of Bremen.

Done!

I finished:
1 Rumpelstiltskin - Key of Light. A deal is struck that might cost the main character something very precious
2 Hansel and Grethel - A walk across the sun. A story about two siblings who are alone in the world and have to deal with evil people.
3 Little Red Cap - read Derek's Bane. There is a big bad wolf in it.
4 Sleeping Beauty - Key of Knowledge. The main characters are trying to save 3 sisters who have been asleep by a curse
5 Town Musicians of Bremen - Undead and Unworthy. The main characters are friends and live together and are all of different "species" (vampires, humans, fiends, ghosts, werewolves)

Total: 6/7

Lauren Smith I have completed task 5 with Wolfhound Century by Peter Higgins. The Frog Prince: one of the main characters comes to care about a man who initially disgusts her but does his best to help her. The man himself has spent most of his life under a kind of enchantment or physical binding from which he is released during the events of the novel.

Score: 6/7.

Congrats for finishing Barbara and Carolien!

Just one more week to finish this challenge. Good luck to those that are working hard to complete their final tasks!

message 67: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Oh shit, one week?! I'll have to find something asap.

You had three months, girls, and the challenge has to end sometime. Unfortunately that is next week. :(

message 70: by Lauren (last edited Apr 24, 2013 08:05AM) (new)

Lauren Smith I found an easier way out - I took another look at the books I read during this period and thought harder about how I could fit them in. The result:

I've completed task 3, The Golden Goose, with Doughnut by Tom Holt: At the beginning, the main character is assumed by everyone to be a complete loser. He has two selfish siblings. The only person who believes in him and tries to help him is an old man. This man gives the protagonist something valuable and unique that other people try (and fail) to obtain by duplicitous means. However, the protagonist is smart and by the end of the book he is extremely powerful.

And with that, I have finished the challenge!

Congrats!

That is what I did too! I just sat down and looked at the books I read since the start of this challenge and figured out how they could be made to fit and then I read the fairy tales and I was done. It was a relatively easy challenge for me and very enjoyable too with those revolting rhymes.

Yay, clever way to finish it off!!

message 73: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Thanks! It is quite fun to look for parallels. Those revolting rhymes were great! It was only (re)reading the actual Grimm fairytales that I found a bit tedious.

Barbara | 4434 comments Mod
Fortunately they aren't that long and I must say that when I sat down to read the 10 new fairytales I chose the shortest ones in the book. I will read the rest of the book later this year, but right now I just don't have the time.

message 75: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Yeah, I picked very short ones for the 10 new ones too. I'd read some of them again for a specific reason (eg. if I was reading a book based on one), but I don't think I'd read a whole anthology again.

Barbara | 4434 comments Mod
Well it's just the anal nut in me that says: "I started the book by reading the fairy tales for this task so I have to finish it." So I will. You should never argue with your own inner mental patient. :D

message 77: by Liezel (new)

Liezel (liezkl) | 736 comments Read

1) Rapunzel - Girl of Nightmares Anna is trapped in 'hell' by the Obeahman and when Cas finds out he does everything he can to save her, not caring that it might cost him his life

4)Snow-White Altered the genetically altered boys have to keep Anna away from the branch who want to get rid of her to achieve their goal of controlling the boys

5) Town Musicians of Bremen - Un Lun Dun - the citizens of Un Lundun work together to rid Un Lundun of the bad guys

7/7
