I've put links into the bios pointing at each other; there should definitely be one for each name since books are credited that way.As for the book records, they should be edited so that they all have the same primary author (and the ones with a different author name on the cover should have that as a secondary author) but it's been a really long day and I can't for the life of me remember and/or google which name ought to be primary although I know there is a rule. Under the circumstances I won't try to actually edit any of them. Maybe I'll have a beer and read some comics for a while instead, and let some other librarian handle that part. :)
Primary should be whichever the book was first published under. I started trying to figure that out last night, But I got tired and my eyes started to cross. ;)
Ok, thanks Cait and Rivka. As it's morning here, so start of the day not end, I'm wide awake and I think my brain is working. I will do my best to take care of anything that needs fixing and post the link back here to make sure it's all been fixed correctly when I'm finished. By the time I'm done it'll probably be the beginning of the day again for you, and close to end for me. Thanks again.
Ok, I just checked and according to Wikipedia Trevayne was first published under Jonathan Ryder in 1973. So from you said before the book author should be listed as Jonathan Ryder, Robert Ludlum, right? So that would mean that 3 of the books, the ones that he published as Michael Shepherd and Jonathan Ryder, won't be listed under Robert Ludlum's author profile. Am I reading your advice correctly? If so I will go ahead and fix the 3 books that need fixing. I can also (probably as I've never done it before, but am happy to give it a go) create and link Michael Shephard to the Robert Ludlum and Jonathan Ryder profiles (if Michael Shepherd hasn't already been created, that is). I'll wait for your go ahead before I do anything (I've always got my own library cataloguing to go on with). Thanks for your help.
Nenangs wrote: "Be wary, I believe there's actually several Michael Shepherd jumbled in the database already."Ok, thanks. I'll make sure it's the right one before I link any books to him. According to Wikipedia Ludlum only wrote one book, The Road to Gandolfo, as Shepherd, so if the author has any other books under his name, I'll know it's not the right one. Thanks again.

Any edition published under Ryder just needs that name; any edition published under Ludlum would need both -- the original name that work was published under as primary, and the one for that edition as secondary.

Correct. Any work never published under a given name should not appear under that name.

It turns out Trevayne was actually first published under Ryder and then later as Ludlum. How do I handle that situation? According to Wikipedia The Road to Gandolfo and The Cry of The Halidon appear to have only ever been published as Ryder, but if you look at the GR records no one seems to have a copy of The Cry of The Halidon by Ryder, except me and none of The Road to Gandolfo editions are published under Michael Shepherd. Any further help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

Ideally, all editions should have Ryder as primary and any edition with Ludlum on the cover should also have him as secondary.

Alright, I think I've done it! I want to make sure it's all correct so I'm going to post links to all three authors pages so that someone more experienced with disambiguation (haven't done that before) and primary/secondary/pseudonym authors can check over my work.http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...

The one thing I don't know how to do is link the Michael Shepherd author profile to the Ludlum profile and vice versa. Can someone help me with that. Thanks for your help.
