Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments I've created a new section on Indie Book Bargains called 'Metrics'.

You can rate books on over 20 dimensions including scariness, swashbucklingness and humour.

At the moment, it just displays book ratings on product pages and produces a chart for each category but later in the week I'm going to add the facility for readers to design their ideal book and IBB will tell them which title is the closest fit.

http://www.indie-book-bargains.co.uk/...

So please feel free to rate as many books as you like. You may rate your own books but please, only one account per author.

What a good idea! I'll have a good look at it later, off to bed soon...

message 3: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments I've put Swords for a Dead Lady on. It was an interesting experience and I'd be genuinely interested to see what other people say.

Can I put Dead Man Riding East on as well? Or is one account per author restricted to one book per author?

message 4: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments That's a fab idea Rosen !

message 5: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments Is there scope for adding a book length field? Sometimes I'm just looking for a quick read, so only interested in short stories or novellas etc. (or sometimes the opposite)

message 6: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Excellent idea Tim. I do the same. It depends on the time I have available.

message 7: by Rosen (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments You may add as many books as you like. Please rate as many as you can.

Book length is hard to do this way because it's an objective measure and a 1-5 scale is subjective.

message 8: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments You could do it in blocks (<10K, 10K-20K etc). Yes you'd need more than 5 options for it to be really useful, (although it doesn't necessarily have to be linear), but is that really a problem?

I think it would be an incredibly useful metric to have, and a USP that you generally don't find.

message 9: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments What he said *points*

message 10: by Rosen (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments I will consider adding length at a later date. It's not something I can incorporate without putting in another hour or programming and right now, I'm programmed out.

message 11: by David (new)

David Haynes | 844 comments This is a terrific idea, Rosen. There's a version in the US called bookmatchers whcih you've probably heard of. However I found that to be too complicated with too many sub categories. I think keeping it in a simple format is more likely to encorage people to use it.

message 12: by David (new)

David Wailing | 834 comments Another indie-promoting idea from Rosen! This is one of those things that's going to be most useful and most popular the more data it has. So we all - authors and readers - need to add as many books as we can. I've made a start, but loads more to add!

David is right (it's that time of the year again!)

message 14: by David (new)

David Haynes | 844 comments Can we add, non indie books? Or are we keeping it indie?

message 15: by David (new)

David Wailing | 834 comments Rosen wrote: "David is right (it's that time of the year again!) "

...Oi!

message 16: by Rosen (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments Yes, you can add non-indie books. I will make sure that I promote the feature heavily among indies to make sure that we are well-represented but the more books the better, however they were published.

message 17: by David (new)

David Haynes | 844 comments okay, I'll add some more then

message 18: by Rosen (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments Thanks!

message 19: by Guy (new)

Guy Portman (guyportman) What a great idea Rosen. It should prove popular.

message 20: by Rosen (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments I hope so - just need to gather lots of data.

message 21: by David (new)

David Haynes | 844 comments i'm putting plenty in!

message 22: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8051 comments I've rated mine so far, because I'm selfish like that, Mwah ha hahargh. I will rate others though, soon.

;-)

Cheers

MTM

message 23: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments I've mentioned it on facebook and twitter. The more who know, the merrier :-)

message 24: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments One thing, when you click on the books, the link through to Amazon appears to be broken

message 25: by Rosen (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments Thanks for promoting.

The links from which pages are broken?

message 26: by Lance (new)

Lance Charnes (lcharnes) A good idea. Sell it quick to Amazon before someone else comes up with it. :-)

I looked around the site and couldn't find anything that says what qualifies a book to be added. How cheap does an eBook have to be to be a "bargain"? I can't tell if I should enter mine (at £2.56) or not.

Jim | 21812 comments Rosen wrote: "Thanks for promoting.

I go to http://www.indie-book-bargains.co.uk/...

I click on a book I've just rated and go to a page which says

Looking for something?
We're sorry. The Web address you entered is not a functioning page on our site.

Go to Amazon.co.uk's Home Page

If I click on one chosen from the metrics, then it does work perfectly

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Im sure adding our group tag would help. ;)

I could be wrong but I think Rosen would have to do that. All I put in was the ASIN

message 30: by Rosen (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments I think I fixed the broken links.

Books can be added to Metrics whatever the price. It's only the daily newsletter that has a price cap (£1).

message 31: by Rick (new)

Rick Brindle Excellent site. I took the liberty of putting my book on there, will add others soon, thank you.

message 32: by Kate (new)

Kate Baggott (httpswwwgoodreadscomkate_baggott) | 104 comments Wow! What a fantastic tool. It looks really rich, but I am going to play with it as soon as the kids are in bed.

message 33: by Rosen (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments I've added author profiles. Please add your here:
http://www.indie-book-bargains.co.uk/...

Still very basic at the moment. Please let me know if you find any bugs.

Adam, to rate a book submitted by others, go to the metrics page, select 'Rate a book' and enter the ASIN in the same way that you would if it was a new book.

message 34: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments And I've even managed to do my author profile!

message 35: by Rosen (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments Jim, I added you to the blogs section today. Sorry it took me so long.

message 36: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8051 comments Oooo this is cool. I've done my author profile too and Jim, I'm now your fan. I'll go 'fan' some other people now.

Cheers

MTM

Don't feel bad about it, I've just realised it's over three weeks since I last did a blog post :-(
But hopefully I've got some time now
