Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Mine would be Lisa See's books. Especially Snow Flower and the Secret Fan
Shanghai Girls
AND
Dreams of Joy

I also agree with Elizabeth Chadwick and Sara Dunant.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Actually, I would call The Stand a cross between sci-fi and horror. It is a post apocalyptic book. It is fantastic, and I agree, destined to become a classic, but definitely not historical fiction.

Mantel's work will, I would surmise. While not for everyone, her books are very well-written.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Michele - I have all three of her recent Tudor books to read. I have heard that they are well worth the read.

I believe so. I very much enjoyed them. But I understand that they are not for everyone. I likely enjoy them because they are about as far from P. Gregory as one can get.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Michele - I do think that Mantel is a bit more serious than PG. I like them both, though, but for very different reasons.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 45 comments Just a bit more serious than Philippa Gregory, yes!

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Susanna - I was trying to be non-confrontational, lol.

C.P. Lesley (cplesley) But given many of the books already listed in the group, I suspect that Philippa Gregory will also qualify in time. Her books are much more respectable than the Angelique series or Forever Amber. And I rather like The Other Boleyn Girl and The Red Queen.

Never underestimate the power of nostalgia!

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) C.P. - I suspect you are right. BTW - The two you listed are two of my favorites, actually.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 45 comments Haven't read The Red Queen. Other Boleyn Girl is fun, but I think my favorite Gregories are Virgin Earth and The Boleyn Inheritance.
